Report: A great late fight-back by Midleton saw them claim a deserved point away to Passage on Thursday night. Trailing by two goals, with eight minutes left to play, headers by Adam Meade and Abdul Backinson saw the lads take a deserved share of the points. Great credit is due to the team for never giving up, and showing great fighting spirit against the most direct team they are ever likely to face. The back four must have woken up with headaches on Friday morning, following all the headers they put in, against a constant barrage of huge high long balls from Passage. Midleton completely dominated the first half, and created numerous chances. Unfortunately, this dominance wasn’t rewarded with a goal. The inevitable then happened after seven minutes of the second half, as Passage scored. Following a Midleton free, a huge kick by the Passage keeper went the full length of the pitch. In the scramble, two Midleton players were injured, and Passage took the lead. This was followed ten minutes later, as Passage doubled their lead. Midleton kept going though, and were finally rewarded when Adam Meade scored an excellent header from a corner with eight minutes left. The drama continued, until Abdul Backinson nicked a header from an excellent in-swinging Sam O’Reilly free in the 78th minute. More drama continued, with five minutes of injury time being played. Overall, a very brave and committed display by all players, on a really poor playing surface. It was not a night for passing football on that pitch, but the lads showed that they can mix it when necessary, while continuing to try to play football as much as the conditions allowed. Special word to keeper Michal Joachim, who made three outstanding saves in the second half to keep Midleton in the game. Team: Michal Joachim; Craig Murray, Cian Ronan, Adam Meade, Jack McGann; Ellis Rowlands, Jack Lamb, Abdul Backinson; Sam O’Reilly, Eabhan do Barra, Tim O’Sullivan. Subs: Scott Fenton, Cian Keohane, David Debuf, Quadri Amuni, Michal Mowilski
