Report: U14 Leonard Gould Cup The boys had a great game and progress to the Quarter finals of the cup. Facing Strand Utd from a higher division the boys fought really hard in midfield to control possession and the speed of our front three put Strand under constant pressure. The hard work eventually payed off after a free Kick from Evan Kelly was parried by the Keeper and Darragh Codd popped up from the centre half position to knock it in. Shortly after, our goalkeeper, Jason Gray, was called into action for the first time and made a great finger tip save to push the ball onto the crossbar and then gathered well. After the break we took control of the game and on 45 min a cross from Colin Sunderland was controlled by Oisin Shanahan who beat one player with a lovely step-over and hit it low past the keeper at the near post. On 50 mins he got his second after Niall Fitzgerald hit a lofted cross that dropped right under the bar and Oisin got a head to it to make it 3-0. On 57 mins, Darragh MacCarthy (Man of The Match) made a great run and shot which rebounded off the keeper and Luke Hourigan with his first touch since coming on, controlled the ball and finished well into the right corner. The boys continued to work hard and Jason Gray made another great save to keep a well deserved clean sheet and the team saw out the rest of the game with ease to progress into the next round of the cup
