Under-17 2012/13 Match Reports

League away to Wilton United on Thursday 25th April 2013
Wilton United 2 Midleton 1

Midleton travelled to Wilton needing a win to take the pressure off the last two games. Midleton started this game putting pressure on Wilton and Midleton got their rewards with a goal from Maciek. Midleton again had most of the ball and were denied a goal when Maciek tapped in the ball from a corner only for the the Wilton keeper to collapse in the goals and the ref to award a free out. The same keeper the ref booked ten minutes before.

Wilton played a long ball game and it payed off when they got there goal in the second half. Midleton should have wrapped this one up with shots from Mark, Maciek and Steven cleared off the line. Deep into the second half their forward off side took the ball down with his hand and slotted it passed our keeper how the ref missed the off side and then the hand ball I'll never know. Finished 2-1 would love to say fair result, just have to win the next one. Well done lads robbed.

League away to Mallow United on Sunday 21st April 2013
Mallow United 1 Midleton 5

The first half of this game was 50-50 with Midleton going ahead with a goal from Maciek, Mmallow got one back before the half to make it 1-1.

Midleton started the better in the second half and pressed Mallow into making mistakes. With great work down the left wing from Killian who passed to Cian and Cian made no mistake. Again MMidleton pressed Mallow and our midfield Isreal, Killian and Maciek Mallow failed to clear and scored an og. With some great passing from Killian to Cian Midleton got a free kick and a well worked one as Maciek moved out of the wall for Cian to power it into the back of the net. With Kyle on for Killian and Mark on for Kieran Kyle picked up the ball in midfield and and a great pass to Cian who took the ball on his chest and volleyed it into the net. Jason and Kevin had great game in midfield and stopped all Mallow's attacks. Our back line of Cillian, Kieran, Kevin and Loughlann were great today and kept Mallow out of the game a fantastic team preformance from all the lads and a great win keeps us in with a chance of promotion.

League at home to Bandon on Sunday 7th April 2013
Midleton 2 Bandon
3
Midleton welcomed Bandon league leaders to Knockgriffen today in poor conditions. The game was always going to be a good one as it was first against second in the league. Midleton started well and with shots from Cian just going wide Midleton could have got an early goal. Bandon break came with five minutes left in the first a shot on goal that never went over the line but the ref thought it did.

With one down going into the second half Midleton pressed but got caught on the break and were two down. Midleton got one back when Steven shot from ten yards out and beat the keeper. Then Bandon handled the ball in the box Cian stepped up but the keeper saved it and from the kickout bandon got a third. Midleton never gave this one up and some great play in midfield saw Maciek score our second but it was not enough and Bandon took all three points. Well done to all the lads on a great performance.

League at home to Lakewood Athletic on Friday 29th March 2013
Midleton 4

The magpies played Lakewood at home today in the league. Midleton needed a win to keep the pressure on Ringmahon Rangers. Midleton started playing into a high wind and found it hard a times to get the ball up to the Killian who was playing striker today. Midleton got their rewards when a shot from Kalum was too strong for the keeper to hold and Killian followed it in for Midleton's first of the day. Midleton settled down and pushed for their second but their keeper was equal to the task and kept Lakewood in the game.

The second half started well in the first ten minutes Kalum broke from the left and struck into the top corner.
Kalum got his second of the day when with some great passing from midfield when Kyle picked out Kalum who made no mistake. Now with Midleton comfortable, Midleon pushed and Isreal was rewarded with a great run and finish. Great win lads

Midleton travelled to Ringmahon Rangers in the league on Sunday and needed a win to keep there promotion chances alive to third place Ringmahon Rangers. The game started well for Midleton and Killian up front today was unlucky not to open the scoring. Our first two goals came from two corners and with Mark getting the two from to brillant headers. The third came from Maciek who slotted home from out side the box. Tthe ref in his wisdom awarded a penalty for a great dive from the Ringmahon player a great save from Josh to keep a clean sheet. We traveled to Rockmount today in the second round of the local cup to play premier Rockmount. The game started brightly for Midleton when Kalum took a shot from twenty yards out and put the ball in the top corner.
Midleton went two up in the first fifteen when Kalum took a corner and scored. Midleton did all the pressing in the first twenty minutes and got their rewards when the ball fell to Jason and he made no mistake to see Midleton go 3 up in the first twenty five minutes. It took a mistake from left back to let Rockmount into this game and they got one back just before half time.

The second half started with Rockmount go three up front and it paid off when the ref gave Rockmount a penalty. Now with only a goal in it Rockmount put Midleton under pressure and got their third at 3 all it was anyone's game. Josh made a couple of great saves to keep Midleton in the game and we were unlucky not to take the lead when a shot from Killian just went over the bar. League away to Mallow United on Sunday 3rd March 2013
Mallow United 3 Midleton 3

Midleton travelled to mallow today needing a win to keep pressure on Bandon. Midleton got off to a great start with in the first ten minutes Steven scored a cracking goal to set the tempo for this game. Mallow got their goal from a kick out from the keeper and this was the way they played a long ball to there big centre forward. Midleton went down to ten men when our stand in keeper kicked the ball off their centre forward which to be fair he did not mean. The ref showed a straight red. Mallow took advantage and went two up, but Midleton were not giving up, when Kevin picked up the ball outside the box and drove the ball into the bottom corner, at two all Midleton took the lead again when Steven scored a great goal.

As Midleton put pressure on Mallow a true ball played true to Steven who the ref deemed off side Steven did not agree and told the ref who showed a straight red for verbal abuse. Mallow threw everything at Midleton who were now down to nine men. Mallow got their rewards five minutes from the final whistle when a long ball was taken down by the centre forward and our second stand in keeper could do nothing about the goal. This will be a game that we should have won, well down to nine men Midleton for the draw.

Park United 1
Park utd had only nine players for this match and set out there team the only way they could. Park defended and defended very well with Midleton enjoying all the posession in the first half and Park playing at times with no centre forward it was very hard for Midleton to break park down. It took something special and that came when Klye took a free kick and scored a brillant goal. Park tried to press and when a soft shot on our keeper only for Steven to drop the ball into our own goals.

With the start of the second half and the game was 1 all. Park again done the only thing they could and had every player behind the ball. Again Midleton enjoyed all the posession and some clever passing Killian struck the ball into the bottom corner to put Midleton 2-1 up. Park had to try to change the way there were playing and when they pushed they left space and with Midleton passing so well Isreal got the ball on the right and scored a cracking goal. Midleton had about 100 shots at goal today but to be fair Park defended very well today and their keeper had a great game saving shots from Maciek, Mark, Cian and Kevin. Within five minutes Kalum had made it 2 nil to Midleton, Kalum picked up the ball in midfield and made a great run taking on the Lakewood defence and scoring a great goal. The game settled when on the break Lakewood pulled one back. Again Midleton pressed and with shots from Kalum, Mark, Isreal and Kasper, Midleton struggled to score today. Again with Midleton enjoying all the position a great ball into Cian and Cian finishing first time at 3-1 one this game was over and Midleton went looking for there fourth. Agood win and a semi final to look forward too with top of the Premier league Mayfield. Well done lads

Gussie Wall Cup at home to Ballincollig on Sunday 14th October 2012
Midleton 4 Ballincollig 0

Midleton welcomed Ballincollig to Knockgriffen in the quarter final of the Gussie Wall cup. Midleton went into this game with loads of confidance with an away win over premier league Carrigaline in the FAI cup.
Midleton got off to a great start when five minutes into the game a Ballincollig player tried to clear the ball, for it to fall to our striker Cian who buried it first time. Midleton controled the game from the start with Kiran and Kevin in defence letting nothing true, with Midleton pressing on the break our second came when from some great play from Jason and Kevin in midfield and Maciek. Cian got the ball from a great pass and from about twenty five yards out scored a wonder goal in the top corner. Again Ballincollig pressed but Midleton so well organised broke up all attacks. With Midleton controlling midfield the a true ball to Maciek left him one on one with their keeper and Maciek slotted home a great goal. Our forth goal came from Mark Hourigan when from a great pass from Kalum and Mark beat two players to score a brilliant goal. With a quiet game from our keeper when Josh he was called upon he made a brilliant save to keep a clean sheet.

Midleton could of had two or three more with shots from Kalum and Cian, with some great work from Kieran, Loughlann, Cillian, Keven solid in the back nothing was getting true this defence. With great work from Kevin and Jason breaking up all play to help the defence. Well done to Steven, Maciek, Mark and Cian who worked so hard for the team. Our subs used today James, Andrew, Kalum who worked very hard when they came on.
Well done lads true to the semis.

FAI Junior Cup away to Carrigaline on Sunday 7th October 2012
Carrigaline 0 Midleton 2

Midleton traveled away today to play a very strong Carrigaline team. The game started with Carrigaline pressing Midleton. As we expected Carrigaline started very strongly with Midleton taking all the pressure, Midleton played a new system today and controled midfield very well. With Kevin and Jason breaking up the attack and creating our attack it took all the pressure off our back line. We created a few chances in the first half with chances from Cian and Maciek we were unlucky not to be 1 up in the first half.

The second half started well we could have taking the lead only for Carrigaline's keeper making a great save. Again Carrigaline tried to get control of the game, but could not get into the game with great work from Kevin, Jason, Mark and Steven in midfield closing down players and wining there tackles. The game turned when the ball was won in midfield and a through ball played true to Cian who tucked it away in the bottom corner, a great finish. Midleton started to control the game and created some great chances and were unluckly not to be two up. Midleton got their second when Jason picked up the ball from midfield and made a great run into the box only to be taken down and Midleton got a penalty. With Cian stepping up and scoring an unstoppable goal.
Great work today from the defence today who cleared everything. Great work in midfield from Steven, Mark, Maciek. Two great goals from Cian.
A great win for Midleton looking forward to the second round, well done lads.

League away to Wilton United on Saturday 29th September 2012
Wilton United 2 Midleton 1

Midleton under 17 traveled to Wilton today. Midleton made 2 changes to the midfield today with Micheal Barry and Kevin Rohan coming into midfield. Midleton started well and twenty minutes into the game Midleton won a corner. Kalum delivered a great ball which was met by the captain Mark, who scored a great goal. Midleton pressed for their second only for the Wilton keeper to make 2 fantastic saves to keep Wilton in the game.
A poor clearance from Midleton at the back and the our keeper came for the ball but it was cleared and the Wilton midfielder put the ball into an empty Midleton net.

Second half saw Cian, Stephen and Killian come on. With in five minutes Midleton had two shots on goal again the Wilton keeper and their defence to clear the ball off the line. With the game looking like it would end in a draw, with wilton getting a corner the ball went in off our own player, pure bad luck. Again Midleton pressed but it was not our day well done to Wilton, next up Carrigline in the cup maybe we can cause an upset.

League at home to Bandon on Sunday 16th September 2012
Midleton 3 Bandon 4

A game of two halfs, that's how I would describe the game at home today to Bandon. The first half saw Midleton make mistakes at the back that I hope never to see again we gifted Bandon two soft goals and going 4-1 down in the first half it was always going to be an up hill battle to get back into this game. With Kalum getting one back in the first half and giving Midleton a much needed goal.

The second half saw Midleton play some of the best football I have seen them play so far this season. With Midleton pressing and our defence getting tight and our midfield winning the midfield battle it was not long before we got a penalty with a great run from Cian Haines and Kalum to step up and put the ball in the back of the net. As Midleton pressed again we got our rewards when the ball broke and Mark Hourigan buried it. Ten minutes to go and Midleton were back in the game as we pressed we could have got at least a draw but we could not take our chances, well done lads on never giving up.
Roll on the next game I will take a lot of positives out of this one.

League away to Blarney United on Sunday 9th September 2012
Blarney United 1 Midleton 1

Midleton drew one all today with Blarney. Midleton traveled to blarney today in there first away league game. The game started well in the first half with Midleton testing the Blarney keeper.with shots on target from Kalum and Jason. Midleton put blarney under a lot of pressure and should have been 4 goals up in the first half only our finishing was not as good today. Midleton got there rewards in the first half with some great passing from midfield for Cian to make a run into the box and power the ball into the back of the net.

Second half started as the first finished with Midleton passing the ball well. Blarney played long ball and thats the way they played all day. It paid off for Blarney with twenty minuts to go a long ball to there forward beat our defender to cooling finish making it one all. Again Midleton pressed but with Blarney's keeper again and again coming to Blarney' rescue. With shots from Cian clearded off the line to hitting the upright it just was not our day. Well done to all the lads.

League v Park United in Knockgriffin on Sunday 2nd Sept 2012
Midleton 4 Park Utd 1

Midleton welcomed Park Utd today in there first league game. Midleton put Park Utd under pressure from the start and were rewarded with Cian Haines making a run from midfield scoring a brilliant goal from a great run. Midleton again put Park Utd under pressure from the start and when a shot on goal broke Kevin O'Riordon put the ball in the back of the net. Park at times tried the long ball but all were met from our centre backs Kasper and Kevin who had a solid game. Midleton pressed and pressed with shots from Mark and Stephen in midfield were unlucky not to be four up.

Second half started as the first finished and Midleton got there rewards when Maciek broke into the box and scored a good goal. Great credit too Park Utd's keeper who made some great saves to keep the score line down again our midfield providing some great balls with Killian playing in David who was unlucky not to score. The last fifteen minutes of the game turned into a sloppy game with both set of players feeling the heat, with ten minutes to go Park played a long ball and there no 10 who looked one of there best players got his reward to score Park's first. Again Midleton pressed and when Killian played the ball across the box their centre back knocked the ball into his own net. A good result all in all to Midleton and a good result from there first home game. Well done lads

League Cup home to Mallow on 19th August
Midleton 1 Mallow 1
Midleton Under 17 welcomed Mallow to Knockgriffen today in the league cup. Midleton started the brighter and could have taken the lead in the first half only for the Mallow keeper to make some good saves.
We changed the midfield today with Maciek starting in midfield and with James starting on the right. It was a tough game for James with Maciek moving to the right on the half with Cian coming into midfield. And it proved a good move with Cian picking up a loose ball and putting the ball into the back of the net.

Mallow pushed after that and were only stopped from equalising with two great saves from our keeper Josh, Midleton should have taking the lead when a true ball was played by Killian to Michael who should have scored. Mallow got back into the game when against the run of play a long ball from Mallow was met by our centre back and his clearance to go into the back of our net.

Midleton were unlucky not to get the winner as they pushed Mallow all the way but credit to Mallow to see out the draw and leave with a point. Well done to all the lads today.

League Cup away to Rockmount on 12th August
Rockmount 2
Midleton 3
The new under 17 team played there first game today away to Rockmount a premier team. Midleton who start the new season in diversion 1. As you would think Rockmount are a good premier team and got off to a great start with five minutes gone they scored a cracking goal from twenty yards. Midleton showed great team spirit and pressed Rockmount and would let them dominate the game. Midleton break came as our left winger Jason Cullane was taken down in the box after getting fouled and three times and up stepped Cian Haines who put the ball under the keeper. Midleton then put a good Rockmount under more pressure and a shot deflected came to Kalum there was no missing to put Midleton ahead.

Rockmount did have some long shots but nothing to trouble our keeper Josh when against play the ref awarded a penalty to Rockmount, would to see the replay on that one. At two all and Maciek on for Isreal, Michael on for Steven and Loughlann on for Cillian Lynch Midleton stepped it up and got our rewards when a shot on target and the Rockmount keeper made a great save but could not hold onto the ball and it fell to Cian who put it into the back of the net. It was agreat start to the season well done lads great team spirit for never giving up.
