League at home to Riverstown on Tuesday 22nd April 2014
Midleton 5 Riverstown 1
With only one loss all season, the girls needed a win to take the league title and they did it in style. The score line did not reflect the intensity pif the game with Riverstown putting up as good fight. The Midleton girls settled straight into the game and by 35 minutes Courtney Histon had her hat trick. This was followed by a goal from Caitlin Ryan and an own goal from the visitors. Half time score was -0.

Riverstown started the strongest in the second half and as Midleton made substitutions Aoife O’Reilly for Riverstown made her mark on the pitch and a through ball from her saw Riverstown score a well deserved goal. However the Midleton girls knew they were playing for the league title and were unlucky not to score another. The final whistle came and the girls could celebrate.

Thank you to Marie O’Leary from Cork Womens and School Girls League who travelled down to Midleton to present them with the League Trophy. The girls then went to McDonalds Midleton, their sponsors for some refreshements, so a special thank you to the staff at McDonalds who made all the girls very welcome.

TEAM: Lily Duggan (capt), Charley Moore, Chloe Horgan, Amy Benaim, Aoife O’Sullivan, Dionne Carroll, Charlie Whelan, Chloe Sigerson, Lauren Linehan, Sarah Whelan, Courtney Histon, Kate Desmond, Caitlin Ryan, Shannon Cremin, Ciara Lawlor, Eimear Lawlor, Molly Rabbitte, Julia Peicuch.

League at home to Ballinhassig on Saturday 12th April 2014
Midleton 3 Ballinhassig 2
Midleton U16 girls captained by Lily Duggan welcomed Ballinhassig to Knockgriffin last Saturday evening in a potential league decider and this game did not disappoint as it was indeed one of the games of the season.
Both teams started strongly and there was nothing separating them with both teams playing their hearts out. The Midleton back four of Charley Moore, Amy Benaim, Lily Duggan and Aoife O'Sullivan were outstanding against the tall, strong Ballinhassig of Heather Kennedy and Ciara Murphy.  However as the game went on it was the Midleton girls who dominated the midfield with Charlie Whelan, Chloe Sigerson, Shannon Cremin and Eimear Lawlor playing outstanding soccer and it was a break from Charlie Whelan after 20 minutes that saw her score from a shot at the edge of the box that Sarah O Donoghue in goal from Ballinhassig was unable to stop.  Ballinhassig kept up the pressure and Chloe Horgan in goal  pulled off some great saves. Again Charlie Whelan broke from midfield with a powerful run and scored her second. The first half ended 2 - 0 to Midleton.

The second half started at an electric pace with Ballinhassig pressing forward and Aoife O'Sullivan scored for the visitors. Ciara Lawlor and Kate desmond made some fantastic runs on the left wing and their efforts paid off with a lovely strike from Ciara Lawlor to give Midleton the edge. Again Ballinhassig piled on the pressure with Maebh O'Sullivan making some great runs but Lauren Linehan kept her at bay. However it was Ciara Murphy for Ballinhassig who scored with 5 minutes to go, making it 3-2. Midleton hung on and caitlin Ryan was unlucky not to score in the dying seconds.

Well done to both teams for a great entertaining game of soccer. Player of the match: Charlie Whelan.
Next game is Tuesday 22nd April V Riverstown in Knockgriffin at 6.30pm and a win will give the Midleton girls the well deserved league title.

League at home to Carrigaline United on Tuesday 8th April 2014
Midleton 3  Carrigaline United 0

Mileton U16’s captained by Lily Duggan welcomed Carrigaline to play their first evening game. This was one of the most important games of the season as the winner could potentially go on to win the league. This game did not disappoint and was a thriller from start to finish. Carrigaline started the stronger with Holly Jackson making runs at the Midleton defence but Charley Moore, Dionne Carroll, Lily Duggan and Amy Benaim played a tight defensive game shutting down any attempt by the Carrigaline forwards. Charlie Whelan and Caitlin Ryan made some great runs but it was not until the 30 minute mark that saw Midleton win a free from outside the box. Charley Moore sent in the perfect ball to see Caitlin Ryan run in and jump to score what has to be one of the goals of the season with a powerful head into the top corner. Half time and Midleton were 1 nil up.

The second half started at a fast pace with Eimear Lawlor and Carrigalines Rachel O'Regan playing fantastic football up the right wing, their skill and pace were unbelievable. Eimears efforts were rewarded when she linked up with her sister Ciara to score a well deserved goal. This gave Midleton the cushion they needed and were able to relax more on the ball. Carrigaline kept up the pressure and kept pressing forward but again the Midleton defence was outstanding. Shannon Cremin made some great breaks but was denied by Carrigalines Lauren O’Brien and finally caitlin Ryan scored her second goal with a great shot from outside the box with 8 minutes to go. Well done to Chloe Horgan who kept a clean sheet and had to pull of some great saves.

Next game is at Home this Saturday V Ballinhassig, this will be a tough game and is a must win game for Midleton.  A win will mean that Midleton go into their final game in 2 weeks time knowing that a win will give them the league title. Well done to all the players from both teams for an oustanding performance and entertaining soccer.
