Under 13 2010/11 Division 3 Match Reports

League at home to Crosshaven on 18th May 2011
Midleton 4-1 Crosshaven
Conor Fitzgerald, Dylan Casey, Garan Manley, Jamie Warrington

Champions at last, although it was a nerve wracking game at times as Crosshaven made the game a real contest. We started well and had then pinned back for the first ten minutes, Conor Fitzgerald had the first chance but was denied by the keeper. After 10mins literally with their first attack of the game they scored, this did not deter us as we tried to work our way back into the game. On 20mins a quick move was finished well by Conor and two minutes later a great delivery by Kyle McCarthy was headed in at the far post by Dylan Casey to give us the lead, a few more chances come and went as the half time whistle blew.

The second half saw Crosshaven take the game to us but with normal service resumed in the back four, Joe Wyer had little to do, as we searched for the finishing goal to settle the nerves. This arrived in the 50min as after a great driving run Garan Manley was hauled to the ground for a free just outside the box, he picked himself up and smashed the ball to the bag of the net to become our 12 different player to score. Our wait for the 13th different player to score was only 3mins as after another surging run by Garan, Jamie Warrington was left with the easy task of finishing the move. Jubilant scenes greeted the final whistle as chants of Champions rang out from Knockgriffen. The management team of Martin Denny, Pat Murphy, Pat Fitzgerald and Leonard O'Driscoll could breath a sigh of relief as we move onto Division 2 for next season.

All in all a great way to finish the season CHAMPIONS, Man of the Match this week was the whole panel of 16 players who all made it on the the pitch today, 1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. David Murphy 4. Seanaidh Symth 5. Ryan Denny 6. Cormac Beausang 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Dylan Casey 12. Jamie Warrington 13. James Leahy 14. Russ Cummins 15. Ryan O'Reagan 16. Garan Manley.
Well done lads for a great season playing football the right way.

League at hone to Passage on 15th May 2011
Midleton 0-0 Passage

First v third where a victory would have seen us take the title with a game to spare, but we will have to wait to the final game of the season to finish the job. First half saw us play against the wind as both sides looked nervous due to the importance of the game, we had the first chance on 5mins when Conor Fitzgerald was one on one but the Passgae keeper pulled off a good save. Passage pressed and it took a good save from Joe Wyer from a free kick to keep the game scoreless, Conor then had another chance but just pulled his shot wide and then after another good move Kyle McCarthy had his shot blocked by the defender. Half time came with the game scoreless.

The second half saw neither side initially getting any tempo as the game was broken up by lots of free kicks and stoppages. We then started to apply pressure and won a succession of corners where we were unlucky not to break the deadlock, Dylan Casey having a shot blocked on the line. Passage looked dangerous on the break but the defence with Ryan Denny having a great game on the Passage danger man another clean sheet was kept keeping up our record of not conceding a league goal at home. Final score 0-0

A shame we could not complete the job today but fair dues to Passage who put in a determined display, at least we know a victory in our last game would still see us take the title. As for the game we put in a solid display typified by MOM this week Ryan Denny who had a great game at centre back. Well Done Ryan

League away to Innisvilla on 13th May 2011
Innishvilla 0-6 Midleton
Cormac Beausang 3, Conor Fitzgerald 3

Last away game of the season saw us travel to Innishvilla on Friday 13th but there was to be nothing strange as we romped to a comfortable victory. we opened the scoring after 45 seconds with a sweet finish by Cormac Beausang, this was doubled on 9mins with Conor Fitzgerald lobbing the keeper with another nice finish. Chances came and went for us until the 23rd min when Cormac added his second after a great driving run his finished to the bottom corner. The defence had little to do but Joe wyer pulled off one good save when it was needed.

The second half started with neither side creating much but with Kyle McCarthy starting to pull the strings in midfield we slowly got our game together again, Conor adding his second on 36mins and then completing his hat-trick on 40mins with a header after a great cross from Dylan Casey. Not to be outdone on 50mins another sweeping move was finished nicely by Cormac to complete his hat-trick. Innishvilla had one chance to get on the score sheet but again Joe Wyer was up to the task to keep another clean sheet.

All in all a good way to finish our travels on the road, and extend our lead at the top, with 2 games to go. Again a good team display
Conor continued his hot streak in front of goal with another hat-trick and good to see Cormac have his best game in weeks also scoring a hat-trick. Not difficult to call MOM this week as we will let the two hat-tricks lads share the accolades, well done Cormac and Conor.

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Russ Cummins 4. Seanaidh Symth 5. Ryan Denny 6. Cormac Beausang 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Jamie Warrington 12. Dylan Casey 13. David Murphy

League at home to Kinsale on 2nd May 2011
Midleton 3-0 Kinsale
Jack Enright, Conor Fitzgerald, Killian Browne.

Home to Kinsale as the games keep coming saw us put in a fine display with a good all round team performance. With both sides looking nervous at the start we got off to the perfect start on 4mins after a decisive pass by Kyle McCarthy was finished by Jack Enright for his tenth of the season. There was a great ebb to the rest of the 1st half as Kinsale took the game to us but with Seanaidh Symth and Ryan Denny in fine form at the heart of the defence, there were very few clear chances for Kinsale. As half time approached we knew we needed another goal and on 28mins a great ball by Aaron Butler was finished to the bottom corner by Conor Fitzgerald to leave the half time score 2nil.

The second half saw Kinsale with the winds at their backs as both sides tried to play the passing game, Kinsale started off the better but our defence stood firm. As the half progressed we worked ourselves back in the game with Killian Browne and Jamie Warrington having great games on the flanks, Conor was the 1st to hit the woodwork with a fizzing shot from 25 yards, this was soon followed by kyle who again was very unlucky with his strike which came back off the post. We were not to be denied a third as another flowing move was finished with a great strike by Killian which left the keeper with no chance. We were able to get all three subs on as the match finished 3nil.

A great effort which saw us overtake Kinsale in the league, with 3 games to go. This was a real team effort with a number of good displays, Jack and Conor continued their hot streak in front of goal, Jamie continued his recent fine form and it was great to see Kyle and Killian having they best displays in the past few weeks. At the back the twin towers of Ryan and Seanaidh were in imperious form. MOM this week was very difficult due to the level of performances but Jamie Warrington for his all action display and Seanaidh Symth for his defence work would share the accolades this week.

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. David Murphy 4. Seanaidh Symth 5. Ryan Denny 6. Cormac Beausang 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Jamie Warrington 12. Dylan Casey 13. Ross Cummins 14. Ryan O'Reagan

League away to Buttevant on 29th April 2011
Buttevant 3-6 Midleton
Conor Fitzgerald 5 and Jack Enright

Away to Buttevant turned out to be the Conor Fitzgerald show and a valuable win. On a very small and narrow pitch flowing football was hard to come by in the 1st half but with Seanaidh Symth playing well at the heart of midfield we eventually got on top, Jack Enright with a fine strike on 18mins opened our account, this was followed by Conor's 1st goal on 25mins leaving the half time score 2nil.

The second half did not get off to a great start as from an attacking corner the Buttevant striker ran the length of the pitch to score, We replied with 2 goals in four minutes both from boot of Conor to complete his hat-trick. Just as we thought we would close out the game a replica of Buttevant's first goal occurred as from an attacking corner the same forward punished us again for poor defending. The goals were still coming as a fine move resulted in Conor scoring his fourth of the game to make it 5-2, still Buttevant were not finished as from a corner they scored with a minute to go. Conor was not finished though and another slick move saw him round the keeper to score his fifth of the game to see us ran out 6-3 winners.

All in all a good win, where we made life difficult at times with some poor defending, but on the positive we were very good going forward, Seanaidh had a very good 1st half and Jamie Warrington really picked up the pace in the second half but MOM for the second game running with a really terrific display and 5 goals to his name was Conor Fitzgerald. Also speedy recovery to James Leahy who will be out for a couple of weeks.

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Ross Cummins 4. Seanaidh Symth 5. Ryan Denny 6. Cormac Beausang 7. Jamie Warrington 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Dylan Casey 12. Killian Browne 13. David Murphy 14. Ryan O'Reagan 15. Eolann Shanahan 16. Corey Mackessy.

League at home to Buttevant on Sunday 24th April
Midleton 4-0 Buttevant
Conor Fitzgerald 3, Jack Enright

Although not playing at our best we comfortably saw off the challenge of Buttevant despite missing a few players through injury and holidays. We started off well enough scoring after 4mins when Conor Fitzgerald continued his rich scoring vein with an excellent strike from the edge of the box. The lead was doubled when a low cross by Conor was finished on the line by Jack Enright on 18mins, the remainder of the half was a pretty low key affair as we struggled to get our passing game going.

The second half saw us create chance after chance with several players guilty of going for power rather than precision, as several shots were driven straight at their keeper. We were well on top now with Joe Wyer and the defence having little to do, and we eventually scored a third with a neat finish by Conor on 46mins and he completed a well earned hat-trick on 56mins with another tidy finish.
A funny game where despite not being at our very best we ran out 4-0 winners but the score line could have been easily more any other day if we had our shooting boots on. Not difficult to pick MOM this week as he was far and away our best player with a great all round display and a hat-trick to boot, Conor Fitzgerald would take the accolades this week.
1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Ross Cummins 4. James Leahy 5. Ryan Denny 6. Cormac Beausang 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. Jamie Warrington 13. Seanaidh Symth 14. Garan Manley 15. Barry O'Callaghan

Local Cup at Home to Leeds on 14th April 2011
Midleton 1-2 Leeds
Conor Fitzgerald

A cracking cup tie saw premier leaders Leeds leave Knockgriffen with a narrow 2-1 victory. The match started with us giving Leeds to much respect as they raced into a 2nil lead within 15 minutes, the first goal after 10 mins creep into the net whereas the second came from a bullet header from a corner. At this stage it looked ominous for us but as half time approached we began to find our feet.

The second half saw a much more even game with subs James Leahy and Jamie Warrington making an instant impact as they drove us forward. Kyle was working his socks off in midfield and the defence with Aaron Butler having a fantastic game standing firm we came much more into the game. The last 10 mins saw us launch attack after attack and we were eventually rewarded on 58 mins with a neat finish by Conor Fitzgerald. Unfortunately time was to run out on us leaving the final score 2-1 to Leeds.

To lose to the Premier Leaders by an odd goal was a fine effort, good luck to Leeds who are a fine footballing team but even in defeat you could see how pleased the lads were with their effort and performance. There were many good displays over the sixty minutes, Aaron had a storming game at right back ably assisted by Seanie and Ryan, Kyle turned in a fine display in the centre of midfield with Conor and Jack keeping the Leeds defence on their toes. Subs James and Jamie had great cameos in the second half but just shading MOM for his all round display was Aaron Butler.

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. David Murphy 4. Cormac Beausang 5. Ryan Denny  6. Seanaidh Symth 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. Ross Cummins 13. James Leahy 14. Jamie Warrington 15 Ryan O'Reagan

League away to Kinsale on 10th April 2011
Kinsale 2-3 Midleton

Top of the table clash in a sun drenched Kinsale and we ended their unbeaten league run with a well deserved victory. We started the game well and should have taken the lead after 10 mins when Conor was clean through but a good save by the keeper denied us. We were playing good football but against the ran of play a corner went straight through to give Kinsale the lead after 20 mins. A sign of a good team is how they respond and we were level within a minute, Jack Enright finishing well to the bottom corner leaving the half time score 1-1.

Second half saw as camped inside Kinsale's half for the 1st ten minutes as we used both flanks to test the Kinsale defence, another sweeping move culminated in a great cross by Conor being turned into his net by a Kinsale defender to give us the lead. Dylan Casey was having a storming match down the left flank as was Kyle McCarthy and when the keeper came out to clear Kyle returned his clearance with a great finish from 30 yards to increase our lead. Kinsale were not finished and with 2 minutes to go scored a second but we closed out the game to secure a vital 3 points.

A great win against the previously undefeated league leaders with an all round team display from 1 - 13, difficult to single out lads as they all worked extremely hard on a hot day, but for his untiring work up front Jack Enright would share the MOM award with Dylan Casey who had a great game on the left flank.
1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. David Murphy 4. Cormac Beausang 5. Ryan Denny  6. Seanaidh Symth 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. Ross Cummins 13. James Leahy

Friendly v Avondale on 26th March 2011
Midleton 3-3 Avondale
Goal Scorers Conor Fitzgerald 2, Ryan O'Reagan 1

With our league game cancelled we were able to get a friendly against Avondale, with all the players getting a run out and an exciting game to boot it was an excellent workout. We started well and could have been a couple of goals up when after a bit of loose defending Avondale scored from a corner after 8mins. The game was being played at a great pace with both teams trying to play quick incisive football and after 18 mins a run and dribble was finished to the bottom corner by Conor Fitzgerald. Half time came with the sides locked at 1-1.

Second half saw both sides again playing good passing football and after a strong shot from Conor was parried by the keeper sub Ryan Reagan was in the right place to finish at the near post. Within 5 mins Avondale were level when a strong run by their number 10 ended with him finishing well to the bottom corner. Not to be outdone we take the lead within 30 seconds with a truly remarkable strike by Conor from 30 yards out with his left foot, a goal to grace any game. Unfortunately just as we looked like closing out the game Avondale poached an equaliser when we should have cleared the ball to finish the game as a draw.

In reflection shame to draw the game but was great to get a game played and thanks to Avondale for playing. For us Kyle worked very hard in midfield and it was great to see Seanaidh back after his injury but for scoring 2 on his birthday Conor would shade the MOM award this week.

Also congratulations to Kyle McCarthy and Conor Fitzgerald for being selected on the Cork Kennedy Cup Squad, well done and keep up the hard work.
1. Joseph Wyer 2. Ross Cummins 3. Aaron Butler 4. James Leahy 5. Cormac Beausang 6. Seanaidh Symth 7. Jamie Warrington 8. Kyle McCarthy  9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey
12. David Murphy 13. Ryan Denny 14. Killian Browne 15. Ryan O'Reagan

League away to Kilinardrsh Coachford on 12th March
Kilinardrsh Coachford 0 - 8 Midleton

Goal Scorers Killian Browne 3, Jack Enright 2, Conor Fitzgerald, James Leahy, David Murphy.
A real game of two halves as our first half performance was well below par. Fair due to Coachford who really battled hard in the first half where as we found it hard to string two passes together. From our one moment of composure Killian Browne struck with a great finish from 25 yards in the 25min to leave the half time score 1-0.

With a few words of encouragement the second half was a completely different story as we blitzed Coachford with 4 goals in the first ten minutes. Jack Enright on as a second half sub finished a great move on 32 mins and he quickly followed this with his second goal on 34 mins after another sweeping move. We were now in full control and after a melee in the box Killian added his second of the match on 36 mins, James leahy then added our fifth goal with a tap in on 40 mins. A powerful run by Ross Cummins into the box was then ended when he was pulled back resulting in a penalty which Killian dispatched for his hat-trick on 45 mins. The best was saved for the end with two great strikes, firstly David Murphy with his first of the season from just outside the box on 47mins and then Conor Fitzgerald with a terrific strike on 55mins to leave the final score 8-0. We could have had a few more with David hitting the crossbar and Kyle hitting crossbar and post during the game.

After a poor first half we rallied in the second half to produce a much better team display, hard luck on Coachford who kept going to the end. For us Jack Enright did really well when he come on scoring 2 goals and leading the line well, Kyle and Conor worked really hard in the second half, but just shading the MOM award with his hat-trick was Killian Browne.
1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler  3. David Murphy 4. James Leahy 5. Cormac Beausang 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8.Kyle McCarthy 9.Conor Fitzgerald 10.Jamie Warrington 11. Dylan Casey 12.Ross Cummins 13. Jack Enright 14. Ryan O'Reagan

Local Cup away to Watergrasshill on 26th February 2011
Watergrasshill 1 - 2 Midleton
Goal Scorer Conor Fitzgerald 2

Last 32 of the Local cup away against the Hill, on a wet and windy morning on a very sticky pitch turned out to be a difficult assignment. We played against the elements in the 1st half and should have taken the lead after 5 mins when Conor was clear through but he struck his shot straight at the keeper. We had then had to defend for long periods of the half but with Joe Wyer in fine form we thought we would get to half time all square but on the stroke of half time the hill scored.

Second half saw us with the wind and after 5 mins of pressure Conor Fitzgerald finished a good move with a powerful shot to the corner. We then continued to apply the pressure and a deft pass by Kyle was slotted home by Conor for his second of the match. We a little more luck we could have added a third but we saw the game out with some good defending at the end to win 2-1.

We now move to the last 16 and await the Winners of the Leeds/Douglas Hall game. All round a good display where we had to battle hard against a very strong and skilful Hill team. For us Cormac Beausang covering for the injured Seanaidh put in a sound performance along side Ryan at the heart of the defence, we wish Seanie well with his recovery. Up front it was great to see Conor back to his best with a fine performance and 2 goals to boot, but just shading man of the match with his great handling and saves when we needed them was goalkeeper Joe Wyer, well done Joe.
1. Joseph Wyer 2.Ross Cummins 3. David Murphy 4. James Leahy 5. Cormac Beausang 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8.Kyle McCarthy 9.Conor Fitzgerald 10.Jamie Warrington 11. Dylan Casey 12. Aaron Butler  13. Jack Enright 14. Eolann Shanahan

League at Home to Everton 13th February 2011
Midleton 0-0 Everton
Two good teams and two mean defences meant there were very few chances on offer over the sixty minutes. In a first half where both teams tried to play football there were very few clean cut chances. Cormac Beausang and Kyle McCarthy worked very hard in midfield but both defences thwarted any half chances which come and went.

Second half was much the same and again there was little to talk about in terms of chances, Joseph Wyer, Aaron Butler, Ryan Denny, Seanaidh Smyth and David Murphy were in great form at the back as Everton pushed hard in the first part of the second half. We finished the half strong but the game finished goaless.

In reflection a draw was a fair result, Everton looked a much better team than when we played them earlier in the season and played very well. For us defensive we were very strong with all the back line playing well again.  Difficult to call man of the match this week as the whole team played well, perhaps a few of the lads, Cormac, Seanaidh, Ryan, could share the accolades.
1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. David Murphy 4. Cormac Beausang 5. Seanaidh Smyth 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8.Kyle McCarthy 9.Conor Fitzgerald 10.Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. Ross Cummins  13. James Leahy 14. Jamie Warrington, 15. Ryan O'Reagan Regards Martin Denny

Local Cup away to Macroom on29th January 2011
Macroom 2-4 Midleton
Scorers Kyle McCarthy 3, Jack Enright 1

It was a long time coming but after six weeks without a game we put in a great all round performance against a very good Macroom side. We started well with New Skipper Kyle McCarthy scoring after 6mins, we then doubled the lead after 19mins when Jack Enright was in the right position to finish off a good move. Dylan Casey was having a stormier down the left wing but just on the stroke of half time Macroom scored to leave the half time score 2-1.

We came out second half and again took the game to Macroom,Kyle scoring after 35mins with a sublime finish lobbing the keeper from 30 yards a great finish. Macroom then came roaring back at us but with Joseph Wyer in great form abley assisted by Ryan Denny and Seanaidh Smyth who both had great games at the heart of the defence we managed to weather the storm. With 2mins to go another flowing move saw Kyle complete his hat-trick although James Leahy was close to getting the final touch, Macroom were not finished and with nearly the last kick of the game scored again to leave the final score 4-2 to us.

After six weeks without a game, this was a terrfic display, New skipper Kyle with a great all round display and a hat-trick had a great game, as did Joe in goal whose handling on the ice pitch was excellent. All the back four played well with Seanaidh and Ryan again winning an amount of headers and tackles when the pressure was on. Very close for man of the match this week but Dylan Casey with his great performance and Kyle with his hat-trick will share the accolades

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. David Murphy 4. Cormac Beausang 5. Seanaidh Smyth 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8.Kyle McCarthy 9.Conor Fitzgerald 10.Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. Ross Cummins  13. James Leahy 14. Jamie Warrington Regards Martin Denny

National Cup home to Carrigaline on 11th Dec 2010
Midleton 0-2 Carrigaline

Third round of the National Cup against Carrigaline from the Premier Division who went away from Knockgriffen with a narrow 2nil victory. We started slowly but soon worked our way into the game and dominated much of the first half without really testing the Carrigaline Keeper. Closest was Conor Fitzgerald who tested the keeper after 10 minutes. Both defences were on top of their game with the Midleton back four of Ross Cummins, Seanaidh Symth, Ryan Denny and David Murphy giving little away. Just as it looked as though it was going to be scoreless at half time, a hurried clearance led to the ball being put back into our box and Carrigaline scored on the stroke of half time.
We came out second half and were pinned back for the first ten minutes but again just as we were starting to play again, Carrigaline scored on the break. We still took the game to Carrigaline and with a little bit of luck could have scored.

Overall a very good performance, the lads showing they can compete in the higher divisions, there were many good displays, Jamie Warrington and Cormac Beausang had great first half's, Owen Coates led by example with a terrific performance ably assisted by Killian Browne. All the back four played well with Seanaidh and Ryan winning an amount of headers and tackles but for his all round display David Murphy would just shade the man of match award.
1. Joseph Wyer 2. Russ Cummins 3. David Murphy 4. Owen Coates 5. Seanaidh Smyth 6. Ryan Denny  7. Killian Browne 8.Cormac Beausang 9.Conor Fitzgerald 10.Kyle McCarthy 11. Jamie Warrington 12. Jack Enright  13. Aaron Butler, 14. Dylan Casey, 15. James Leahy

National Cup away to Carrigaline Hibs on 21st Nov 2010
Carrigaline Hibs 0-2 Midleton
Scorer Cormac Beausang 2

Second round of the National Cup and we travelled to Carrigaline to play on the astro pitch. Although not playing well in the 1st half we created a number of chances with Conor Fitzgerald coming closest with a sweet volley which hit one post and then the other without crossing the line.

With a few words of encouragement we started the second half well and scored after 2 mins when a great cross by Killian Browne was finished well by Cormac Beausang. We then sat back for the next 15 mins and it took some great defending especially from Seanaidh Symth to keep Carrigaline at bay. We then started to play again with Killian and Cormac combining again for Cormac to score the decisive goal on 56mins.

Overall another clean sheet from Joe, with a good performance from Killian, but man of the match by a country mile was Seanaidh Smyth who was terrfic at the heart of the defence.

Challenge Match v Springfield Ramblers 13th Nov 2010
Midleton 1-3 Springfield Ramblers
Scorer Ryan Denny

We had a good workout against Premiership side Springfield and for long periods of the match there was little between the sides. The first half was very even as we played some excellent football and with a little more luck we could have been more up at the break. We did score after 20mins when following a corner Ryan Denny drive the ball to the back of the net from 5 yards.

We could not keep our intensity up in the second half and with 5mins to go the match looked like finishing in a draw, unfortunately we conceded 2 late goals to lose the match 3-1 in the end, the score line not reflecting the even nature of the game.

Despite the loss there were several good performances, Cormac Beausang had a excellent 1st half closely followed by Seanaidh Smyth, Kyle McCarthy, Conor Fitzgerald and Killian Browne. We can take a lot of positives into our next game as the overall team display against Premiership opposition was very good, man of the match this week for his overall performance was Cormac Beausang.

League away to Passage United 6th Nov 2010
Passage 2-1 Midleton
Scorer Kyle McCarthy

We suffered our first defeat of the season going down 2-1 to Passage. There was nothing between the 2 sides in the first half with neither getting any control over the match. The wet conditions did little for fast flowing football and half time was reached with neither defence being breached.

The second half continued in the same vein, but 2 defensive lapses after ten minutes saw Passage race into a 2nil lead, we replied quickly through a great strike by Kyle McCarthy and although we had 2 good chances to equalise we did not take them. Credit to Passage who worked hard for their victory although a draw probably would have been a fair result.

All in all a very disappointing result, with plenty of work to do on the training ground before our next game. There were very few contenders for Man of the match, Joe Wyer had a very good game in goal but with a good solid performance at right back Aaron Butler would take the honour this week.

National Cup at home to Casteview at 24th October
Midleton 6-3 Castleview
Scorers Kyle McCarthy 2, Conor Fitzgerald 2, James Leahy and Owen Coates.

What a game is a term often used but that was what we had today in Knockgriffen. Castleview top of division 2 were eventually dispatched but it take extra time and no bit of skill and hard work to overcome an excellent Castleview side.

Where to start, we started really well and for the first 20mins controlled the game scoring after 6 mins through Kyle McCarthy and then on 21mins through James Leahy. Castleview then upped they game and finished the half strong scoring on 26mins to leave the half time 2-1 to us.

We thought Castleview would come out strong and only 2mins into the second half they equalised and were pushing us hard, we responded well and a great pass from Conor Fitzgerald was finished well by Kyle for his second of the game. Back game Castleview and for the rest of the half had us pinned back, some great defending kept them at bay especially by Seanaidh Smyth and Ryan Denny. Just as we thought we had won the game Castleview drew level with a great strike with the last kick of the game.

Extra time came and our lads stepped up Conor Fitz with a great finish on 67mins gave us the lead again and this time there was no stopping us. Two more goals in the second period one from Owen Coates, our ninth different player to score this season and then a second from Conor sealed the game. A round of applause greeted both teams at the final whistle in what was a great exhibition of football with not a dirty tackle in the game.

Man of the match this week could have been a number of players Seanaidh and Ryan both had excellent games, James Leahy had another great game in midfield and it was great to see Conor back from injury scoring two, but maybe shading it with 2 goals and a great all round performance was Kyle McCarthy.

League at Home to Killinardrish Coachford 9th October
Midleton 6 Killinardrish Coachford 0
Goal Scorers Jack Enright 3, Ryan Denny 2 and James Leahy.

We got back to winning ways with an empathic win, although missing a number of players through injury the lads available put in a fine display. Playing against the strong wind in the 1st half we took an earlier lead after 6mins when a great ball by Seanaidh Smyth was finished well by James Leahy. For the rest of the half a few chances came and went but the half time score remained 1-0.

The second half saw us dominate play and after 39 mins Jack Enright was in the right position to finish off after a mistake by the goalkeeper. Three minutes later a corner was cleared to the edge of the box where centre half Ryan Denny thumped the ball to the back of the net for his 1st ever competitive goal, amazingly his wait for his second only lasted 7 more minutes when a great diving header produced his second goal of the game.

By now we were looking dangerous with every attack with our midfield driving us forward, Jack was in the right place to score 2 further goals to complete his hat trick to round off a great team performance, the match finishing 6-0. Man of the match very difficult to call this week with the back five keeping another clean sheet, and centre half Ryan popping up with 2 goals, and Jack Enright scoring a fine hat-trick, perhaps we should let them share the honours this week.

League Away to Everton on 25th Sept
The old saying that is never over until the final whistle blows was never more true in our second away game of the season. We got off to the perfect start when within 5 minutes a perfect cross by Conor Fitzgerald was finished with a powerful 1st time finish by Killian Browne. The rest of half was fairly even with both defences making sure there where no more goals.

The second half saw us dominate possession with Owen Coates and Sub James Leahy driving us forward in midfield. With a little more luck and better finishing we should have closed out the game. Unfortunately with a minute to go Everton scored with literally their only attack of the second half.
The match petered out to finish 1-1, but overall the lads played very well in the second half and our unbeaten start to the campaign continued. Man of the match went to Captain Owen Coates for his terrific display in the centre of midfield.

League Home to Innishvilla on 12th Sept
The first league game at home against Innishvilla got off to a bang when within 4 minutes Cormac Beausang unleashed a pile driver to the bottom corner from 25 yards. For the next 15 minutes it was nip and tuck with the Midleton back four and goalkeeper Jo Wyer repelling the Innishvilla attacks. A good move on 22 minutes saw Kyle McCarthy finish well after the ball was initially saved from a shot by Conor FitzGerald. Half time come with a score line of 2-0 and with a few tactical changes Midleton piled forward in the second half.

Three goals in a matter of five minutes two from Kyle completing his hat trick and one from Conor made the score 5-0, with this all the subs were given game time and a further strike from Conor completed the scoring to make it a resounding 6-0 victory.
The match closed out with the defence keeping another clean sheet and the team as a whole performing very well, man of the match again was close but for his terrific hat trick Kyle McCarthy would have to take the accolades this week.

League Away to Crosshaven on 28th Aug
A good start to the season for the new u13 panel. Playing away in Crosshaven the team eased to a 1 -0 win. Midleton attacked from the kickoff and were unlucky not to take advantage of a number of scoring opportunities in the 1st half. With the defence looking strong with centre half pairing of Seanaidh Smyth and Ryan Denny supported by both full backs thwarting any attacks, it was hopefully only a matter of time before the breakthrough was made. This came 15 minutes into the second half when a great run by Killian Browne was finished off by Dylan Casey at the near post. We finished the game strong but for the post and a further few opportunities missed we finished the game with a 1 -0 victory.

On the whole a very satisfaction performance with all 15 on the panel getting a run, man of the match was close but for his terrific display in the midfield captain for the day Owen Coates would take the accolades.
