Under 16 Division 1 2011/12 Match Reports

League away to Everton on Sunday 22nd April
Everton 2 Midleton 0

Last game os the season saw us away to Everton who had to win to finish second. Evertyon started the game witha high tempo a team that needed a win. Their first goal came from a por clearance from our defence. We took control of the game and pushed Everton back and had one or two chances to score only for their keeper who on the day was man of the match. Everton got their second goal with a long ball and a header to the corner of our net saw Josh flat footed and could not adjust in time.

Midleton came close in the second half with a volleyfrom James McCarthy only for the keeper to get his finger tips to it. Again Midleton pushed and a great pass found Kalum one on one with the keeper only to put the shot wide. All in all a poor season and an other poor result.

League away to Bandon on Sunday 15th April
Bandon 3 Midleton 2

We traveled to Bandon for our second last match of the season. What a great start when five minutes into the game Killian Browne made a one touch volley to Kalum Deady who took the ball down and shot it into the back of the net. Bandon put the pressure on and with ten minutes gone Kalum again scored a cracker of a goal, two up and ten minutes to go in the first half and we lost our captain Mark and with one one to replace him in midfield Bandon scored with in three minutes. The second half saw Bandon with a lot of posession and scored twice to win the game. Well done to all the lads one game left this Sunday.

League away to Youghal on Sunday 18th March
Youghal 2 Midleton 3

We traveled to Youghal today on the back of a draw away to Strand and what a great result. Nice to get back to winning ways. Our first goal came from some great passing in midfield as Kalum Deady picked up the ball and crossed in first time and what a great finish from James Carroll. With a goal up Midleton pressed for a second the ball fell to Kalum, Kalum hit it first time in under the keeper's legs to make it two. Midleton now pressed and Killian Browne shot just tipped over the bar, again some great passing between Kalum and Killian preesed for a third. Mark having a great game passed from midfield Kalum took one touch and top corner what a goal. Now Youghal looking for there first pressed and a long ball found there striker to make it 3-1 first half over.

The start of the second half saw Midleton apply all the pressure and Kalum unlucky on two occasions not to get his hat trick. With midleton pushing we got caught with a lot of off sides. With a great game from Josh in goals and are back line been solid today Cian Greene and Cillian Lynch and Andy Williams solid all game a lapse in concentraction left Youghal in for there second. A great game from Midleton today and a great win in a local derby well done to al the lads.

League away to Strand United on Sunday 11th March
Strand United 2 Midleton 2

With only one league win so far, this was all ways going to be a hard game against a Strand team looking for there first win. The game proved to be a great one to watch as both teams wenr for the win. The break for Midleton's first goal came from a corner and our centre Conor Morgan back rising to beat the Strand defence to the ball and score a cracking goal. Strand with in three minutes were level.

Second half Killian Browne play the ball across the box only for our striker to miss. Again came Midleton with a great run from Isreal Matiki to set up a free kick only for it to be tipped over he bar. Midleton got their second from a corner when Killian played the ball in and Kevin Rohan struck first. Again with in five minutes Strand were level, it could have gone any way with Josh Deady making three brilliant saves. Kalum Deady and Killian Browne all unlucky not to score. A fair result best of luck to Strand with their season

League away to Rockmount on Sunday 4th March
Rockmount 7 Midleton 1

We went to Rockmount today knowing it would be a tough game. We started well with three minutes into the first half a cross from a corner saw Rockmount's defender header the ball into his own net.

Within ten minutes rockmount were level.midleton tryed to get out of there own half, but found it tough against a solid Rockmount side it was only 2-1 to Rockmount at half time and we went 4-4-2 as we started the game 4-1-4-1 to try and contain there no 10 who is on the Ireland team and was fantastic today. Second half saw Josh Deady make some great saves, and well done to our defence even at seven one played very well. We are struggling this season and finding it hard to score goals, but well done to all lads they never give up.

Local Cup away to Avondale United on Sunday 19th February
Avondale United 3 Midleton 0

we were away today to a strong Avondale team who are second in the premership. We were under pressure from the start as Avondale pushed for an early goal. Midleton took all the pressure and we had chances to take the lead. A ball played to Avondale's front man who took the ball down and turned and put the ball in the back of the net. Midleton again pushed a long ball from Avondale and they were two up. Half time and Midleton who played up hill in the first half and took all the pressure took the game to avondale. Mistake from Midleton gifted Avondale a third, well done to Avondale and best of luck in the cup.
And well done to Midleton despite the score one of the best games this year.

League home to Carrigaline United on Sunday 30th October
Midleton 1 Carrigaline United 3
Carrigaline can to Knockgriffen today top of the table. First half saw some good football from both teams, Josh made two very good saves. The game changed when a weak shot on goal went under our keeper's foot. Carigaline's second goal came from an own goal by Issi as the ball came off his shin, Carrigaline will never get two easier goals. Midleton preesed again in the second half but again Midleton were punished from a corner as the ball was not cleared and an easy tap in for the visters third. We got one back ten minutes from the end as Issi beat three players to put the ball in the bottom corner. All said we did play well, look forward to the next match.

League home to Rockmount on Sunday 2nd October
Midleton 2 Rockmount 2

Midleton made a great start to this home game against a very strong Rockmount. Klye McCarthy played a brillant cross and Mark Hourigan smashed it into the back of the Rockmount goal.
Rockmount then started to pressure us. If not for our keeper Josh who made some brillant saves.
We went in at half time in control and one up.
Second half saw Rockmount again pressure our defence and got their reward with the equaliser.
Rockmount took the lead with about ten minutes to go from a loose ball in the box. Now Midleton took control of the game and from a kick out from Josh, Kalum took the ball down and rounded there keeper to slot the ball home.
Midleton had all the ball in the last ten and were unlucky not to get the winner.
Good game lads great work from all the players today.

National Cup away to Ballincollig on 25th September
Ballincollig A 1 Midleton 2

We played today away to Ballincollig on a very wet Sunday morning. Midleton went into this first round National Cup game division 1 against division 3.
Ballincollig put us under real pressure from the start in fact it was all Ballincollig in the first fifteen minutes with Midleton trying to get out of there own half.
The break through came in the first half when we were awarded a free kick twenty yards out and Kalum Deady stepped up to score a brillant free kick. I have never giving man of the match as i think its not fair but this week i will if it wasn't for our goal keeper Josh Deady, we would have been out of he match.

Second half saw Midleton play ball and miss three clear sitters. Ballincollig got a goal in the last two minutes of normal time and deserved. Extra time again saw Josh use every part of his body to keep the ball out. To be fair it could have either way. Midleton got a corner Kalum delivered and Kevin Rohan in the right place blasted it into the back of the net.
Well done Ballincollig for a great game. Well done lads and the man of the match Josh.

League home to Everton on Sunday 18th September
Midleton 2 Everton 2

A game of two halves would discribe this game. Everton put us under pressure from the start but we defended well. Everton's break came when from a corner, the ball was cleared from the box and their no 8 struck first time to score a wonder goal. Again Everton pushed and got their reward when the ball wasn't cleared and they got their second just on half time.

Second half Midleton put Everton under pressure and we got our reward when the ball broke in the box and Mark Hourigan strick first time to make it 2-1. Again Midleton pushed and looked a better team. Kalum took a free kick and the their keeper made the save, but spilled the ball and again our captain Mark Hourigan struck the ball from an impossible angle to make it 2-2 all. We should have gone on to win this one but we will take the draw. There was some great saves from Josh Deady. With our back line doing there job Cian, Conor, James and Cillian make some great tackles. Issi Brownie and Kalum worked very hard to create play from midfield. Up front started with Kevin and Andrew and they were unlucky not to get on the score sheet. With Dylan coming on second half for Andy. A good result well done lads.

League home to Strand Utd on Sunday 11th September
Midleton 5 Strand Utd 3
Our first win of the season at home to a good strand team. our new signing Dylan Shaw scored his first goal for the club when the ball broke from a corner. Second goal also came from a corner when James Carroll scored his first goal. Strand then got an easy goal when we made a mistake at the back. Kalum scored our third with a brillant shot from out side the box. Strand again pushed and again got an easy goal from a bad clearance. Our fourth came from Kevin Rohan as he got the ball from some brillant passing from Killian Browne. Strand again pushed and pushed and got there third. Isreal Matiki got a brillant goal from a great run from midfield.
Well done lads some great defending from Cian Greene who cleared the ball off the line and James Carroll at left back. Mark and Kalum put in some great work in midfield.

League home to Bandon on Sunday 4th September
Midleton 2 Bandon 4
Our first home game of the season was against Bandon. Midleton took the lead in the first half with a brillant run from Kalum Deady. Bandon came back and scored to make it one all.
Killian Browne took a brillant free kick to just hit the cross bar. Bandon then took the lead to make it 2-1 to the vistors.

The second half Midleton were unluckly not to be two all and on the break from a long ball Bandon went three up. Kalum was unlucky as his shot was cleared off the line. Bandon then got there fourth. Kalum got the ball deep in the Bandon half to make it 4-2.
With six first team players still missing with injurys and holidays it should get better when we have a full squad.

League away to Carrigaline United on Sunday 28th August
Carrigaline 2 Midleton 0

First game of the season didn't start the way we wanted it too. We lost to a good Carrigaline side.
If we could have fielded a full squad maybe the result would have been different with players still on holidays.
Carrigaline scored their two goals in the first half, we had some shots on target but their keeper had a good game and saved everything we threw at them.

Second half was a game more even with both side pressing, we lacked the killer touch up front it was not our day. Josh made some great saves to keep the score at 2 nil.
Klye came close to scoring, Mark and Kalum were unlucky. The keeper proved too strong for us today.
Well done Carrigaline, look forward to the home match.
