Under 14 Girls 2013/14 Match Reports

League away to Passage on Saturday 21st June 2014
Passage 5 Midleton 4
A real end of season game in hot sunshine in Passage. After a solid start to the game where Shannon went very close it was Passage who took an early lead and then went 2 up soon after. To be fair to our girls they dug deep and a super finish by Sarah made it 2-1 and then a craking shot from Shanno  made it 2-2. But the comeback was short lived and Passage took the lead againbefore half time with a great shot from the edge of the area which flew over Shauna in goals. Doireann(Capt) and Andrea did very well along with Lauren and Niamh at the back during the first half as Shannon, Aoife, Courtney, Ciara and Eimear worked so hard in the hot sun getting up and down the pitch. Sarah had to rest her injury after her goal but returned in the second half in the keepers position. Lucy came on up front and came close to scoring.

Second half and after a few minutes Sarah went into goals and could do nothing about their 4th goal as the ball deflected off Eimear into the goals. This seemed to concentrate the girls minds again and a fantastic run by Shannon from the left wing beating at least 4 defenders along tbe way ended in Shauna having a tap in goal. Shaunas first goal ever, in one of her rear appearances outfield, congrats. Then this was followed by a perfect finish to the top left corner by Eimear from the edge of the area, 4-4 with 15min left. Passage who needed to win to secure the runners up spot really showed great determination in the final stages and a break in behind our defence by Winnie was well finished to make it 5-4 with only minutes left. Courtney came close to leveling it again but it was to be Passages day. So after a super season with only one defeat in the league and being crowned champions last week the final day was not the best while still very enjoyable.

Team: - Lucy Horgan, Shannon Cremin, Andy Cuthbert, Niamh Molloy, Aoife Mitchell, Lauren Linehan,
Doireann Conway(Capt), Courtney Histon, Ciara Lawlor, Eimear Lawlor, Shauna Horgan, Sarah Whelan.

League at home to Ballinhassig on Saturday 14th June 2014
Midleton 7 Ballinhassig 1
This was a day to celebrate and all the girls did. The visitors were under strength but our girls did show great movement and passing on the was to a comfortable win. Aisling Harty took the keeper role from Shauna , Aisling Murphy, Roisin, Catherine and Niamh had a quite day without much pressure.  Shannon, Lauren, Ciara, Aoife and Eimear dominated the middle and indeed it was a rocket of a shot from Aoife that opened the scoring after a good cross from the right. Great to see Aoife finally getting the goal she has been looking for all season. Sarah was the replaced by Shauna as she suffered a hamstring injury. Then Shannon got on the score sheet and added another later as she made a mazy run through their defence.

Second half and Shannon went in goals as Aisling moved up front. By this time Shauna,Doireann, Emma, Andy, Ellen and Lucy had joined the game and we moved several positions around. Ciara then made it 4-0 with a cool finish and Aisling Harty made it 5. They did get one back when their keeper came outfield and scored a rocket from the edge of the area. This was followed by another first when Catherine scored her first goal after years stopping goals at the other end and to complete the day Catherine scored with an amazing solo run through their defence.

After the game Charlie Lynch from the league presented joint captains for the day Ellen Harty and Shannon Cremin with the League Trophy and it's the first time Midleton will have their name on the trophy.  What a season with the U16s girls also winning their league.

Team - Shannon Cremin(Capt), Ellen Harty(Capt), Aisling Harty, Catherine Walsh, Aisling Murphy, Niamh Molloy, Lauren Linehan, Aoife Mitchell,  Ciara Lawlor, Eimear Lawlor, Emma O Sullivan, Doireann Conway, Andrea Cuthbert, Sarah Whelan, Lucy Horgan,  Shauna Horgan

League at home to Passage on Tuesday 10th June 2014
Midleton 3 Passage 0
What a great achievement by all the girls tonight, they played their closest rivals in the league and completed a 100% record on their way to winning the First Division League Championship with 3 games still to play.
From the word go the girls were up for this and from Shauna in goal, right through the defence of Catherine, Lauren, Niamh and Roisin they showed they wanted the win tonight. Shauna made a great save when the score was 0-0 and Shannon, Aisling and Courtney in the middle dominated and provided plenty of chances for Eimear and Ciara out wide and Ellen (Capt) up front and indeed it was Ellen who came closest early on as she forced a wonderful save from a very good Passage keeper. Courtney also went close after using her speed to break through their defence. Then another piece of flowing football on the down the left ended with the ball falling to Sarah in front of goal and nobody better to take a chance when it comes, to the delight of all her team mates and great supporters on the night. More chances came and went before half time but everyone was confident going into the second half.

Second half had the girls showing even more confidence on the ball and great movement off the ball resulted in some wonderful passages of football. To Passages credit they continued to press at every opportunity and our backs included Niamh Murphy now in the middle couped very well. Zara came into the midfield and showed some great composure on the ball and played some delightful one-twos. Courtney was on hand to finally get number 2 after several close calls. Doireann, Emma and Lucy also joined the action and Lucy almost got on the score sheet. But it was a wonderful finish by Courtney that sealed the game with 10 minutes to go and just rewards after a great season. The girls can now enjoy the final 3 games knowing they are CHAMPIONS!!! Well done to you all.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Lucy Horgan, Ellen Harty(Capt), Niamh Molloy, Doireann Conway, Andy Cuthbert, Emma O Sullivan, Aisling Harty, Catherine Walsh, Lauren Linehan, Courtney Histon, Shannon Cremin, Sarah Whelan, Roisin O'Callaghan, Ciara Lawlor, Eimear Lawlor, Aisling Murphy, Zara Bowles.

League away to Richmond on Sunday 8th June 2014
Richmond 1 Midleton 6
This was a game of 2 halves as the wind and the slope of the pitch combined to offer the team with its advantage with some great chances. As the team with the first half advantage in the first half we really needed to take advantage and it only took 4 minutes for Shannon to get the settle us down. A super finish from the edge of the box to the roof of the net.... Only minutes later Courtney added a second as she passed the ball past their keeper after breaking through their defence. It was all Midleton at this stage with Eimear and Ciara pressing down both wings and Sarah came close on a number of occassions especially with 2 header from corner kicks. Shauna stood in as Captain in the absence of the unwell Ellen(hope she well for Tuesday!) and was called on only twice in the whole first half as her defenders Roisin, Lauren, Catherine and Niamh performed so well. Aisling Harty and later Zara did very well in the midfield role and it was from another passing move that Shannon made it 3 after just 11 minutes and completed her hat-trick after only 18 minutes. She went on to score again on twenty minutes before being replaced by Emma up front. Aisling Murphy also recovering from a recent accident came on at centre back and played her usual solid defensive role.

Second half was a much different affair as the back were to the wall for long spells. This was when our backs showed their class as they gave up very few chances to Richmond even when under extreme pressure. The girls continued to play some lovely passing moves and on one of these moves Eimear broke in from the right and her shot came of an unlucky defender and ended up in the back of the net to Eimears joy. That knocked Richmond back and we managed to control the game better from there to the end and were unlucky not to add a few more goals to the tally. Lucy provided a touch of class as she flicked on a lovely ball with the outside of her foot to set Courtney in and only for great defending would have made it 7. In the end another great performance and now its a home game to Passage on Tuesday which could seal the league title. So the place to be on Tuesday evening is Knockgriffin!!

Player of the Match - Ciara Lawlor- Keep working on that left leg, its really paying off!
Team - Shauna Horgan(Capt), Aisling Murphy, Lucy Horgan, Catherine Walsh, Roisin O'Callaghan, Niamh Molloy, Lauren Linehan, Ciara Lawlor, Eimear Lawlor, Courtney Histon, Emma O'Sullivan, Shannon Cremin, Sarah Whelan, Aisling Harty, Zara Bowles

League away to Crosshaven on Tuesday 20th May 2014
Crosshaven 1 Midleton 3
This was another very close encounter, as we expected after our close contest last Thursday in Midleton. To be fair we played some lovely football again and but for the superb display of their swipper and their keeper, this could have been over by half time. Shauna had little do in the first half as her defence of Catherine, Aisling Murphy, Niamh and Lauren managed to deal with most of what Crosshaven managed to develop on the break. It was the continued attacks from Courtney, Shannon, Aoife and Eimear that allows those opportunities on the break. After several close calls it was a short corner from Shannon to Eimear who found Sarah with a perfect cross and Sarah finished in great style. This helped settle some nerves and Shannon made it 2-0 when she added to her seasons tally and finished with a lovely shot from the edge of the area.

Second half and more of the same with wave after wave of attack interupted only by the occassional break by Crosshaven. Aoife was closest to scoring when she made a great run down the left and cut in to see her shot come back off the corner of the post and crossbar. Their keeper was also in superb form saving several good attempts. It was on one of their breaks that Crooshaven made the score 2-1 with a finish to the top of the net that Shauna had no chance of reaching. This was just the thing to get our girls going again and within minutes Ellen played a lovely first touch pass through their defence for her sister Aisling to run onto and she did very well to hold off the challenge of their centre back before finishing to the back of the net. Final score was 3-1 after a few more chances at both ends.

Team - Lucy Horgan, Doireann Conway, Ellen Harty, Emma O Sullivan, Andrea Cuthbert, Aisling Harty,
Sarah Whelan, Eimear Lawlor(Capt) Shannon Cremin, Courtney Histon, Aoife Mitchell, Lauren Linehan, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Aisling Murphy, Shauna Horgan.
Player of the Match: Ellen Harty

League at home to Crosshaven on Thursday 15th May 2014
Midleton 2 Crosshaven 1
A great game against a very strong Crosshaven side. Total football from start to finish from both teams. Crosshaven got off to the perfect start after only 7 minutes but credit to our girls as they gained extra determination from this and within minutes Aisling got the equaliser and it continued end to end from the rest of the first half. We came close on a number of occasions but their keeper and defence stood up to everything we through at them. Our defence of Aisling, Catherine, Niamh and Lauren played very well and moved forward to support attacks whenever possible. Eimear, Shannon, Zara and Aoife did well in midfield and created lots of attacking options. Ciara and Aisling Harty also worked very hard to get into good postions up front.

Second half saw more of the same and chances came and went but the girls continued to do everything they could to get the all important goal.  Shannon hit the crossbar and other chances just missed the target or their keeper saved them. Ellen came on and went very close with her first effort. And then with just minutes remaining an excellent move started by Zara in midfield found Aisling who turned and played a lovely ball behind the defence to the on running Eimear who finished delightfully to the far corner. To the delight of all present and her team mates it proved to be the winning goal.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Emma O'Sullivan, Doireann Conway, Lucy Horgan, Aisling Murphy, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Lauren Linehan, Aoife Mitchell, Shannon Cremin, Zara Bowles, Ciara Lawlor, Eimear Lawlor, Ellen Harty, Aisling Harty.
Player of the Match: Eimear Lawlor.

League at home to Richmond on Saturday 3rd May 2014
Midleton 3 Richmond 0
The conditions were poor but the pitch was in excellent shape and the girls set about this fixture as if it were the cup final. Richmond had only one defeat to date in the league and were always going to be a big test. The game was end to end with the physically bigger visitors putting it up to us. Our girls tried really hard to get their passing game going and it was this that in the end gave us the advantage. Shauna had a solid back four of  Catherine, Niamh, Roisin and Lauren who did very well defensively as well as supporting the midfield as often as they could get forward. Aoife worked very well with Lauren on the left setting Shannon free down the left on a number of occasions. We went close a few times before in the 17th minute a shot from a tight angle on the right by Shannon found its way to the back of the net. This seemed to settle the girls and within 5 minutes Ciara found the bottom right hand corner with the perfect shot after good play down the right by Catherine, Eimear and Courtney. 2-0 at half time and a very good peformance.

Ellen, Aisling, Emma and Andy joined the team in the second half as it continued to be a very tight affair. Sarah(Capt) lead by example throughout the game and was unlucky not to score on a few occasions particularly in the first half. Midway through the second half a simple move from a corner by Shannon on the right, saw Eimear pass across the outside of the box to Courtney who passed it onto Lauren coming from left back and a peach of a shot across the goals nessled nicely in the right hand side of their goals. Two goals in two games from the left back position. To the credit of Richmond they continued to play their very best and went close on a few occasions only to find Shauna too determined to keep another clean sheet in goals. Then just minutes from the end a break down the left was crossed outside the large box and it looked like Catherine was going to match her defensive partner Lauren by scoring but saw her long range shot fly just right of the post and wide. It would have been a great finish and no more then her performance deserved. Final score was 3-0 and I m sure the away fixture in a couple of weeks will be another difficult task. Player of the match went to Aoife for her wonderful display down the left side of midfield linking up defense and attack and working so hard to win the ball back every time Richmond managed to get it.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Roisin O Callaghan, Lauren Linehan, Aoife Mitchell, Shannon Cremin, Courtney Histon, Eimear Lawlor, Sarah Whelan(Capt), Ciara Lawlor, Ellen Harty,
Emma O'Sullivan, Andy Cuthbert, Elena Kelleher, Sadhbh Beausang, Lucy Horgan, Aisling Harty.
Player of the Match - Aoife Mitchell.

League away to Castlelack on Sunday 27th April 2014
Castlelack 0 Midleton 8
A good trip down to Castlelack today where all 17 girls got plenty of game time. The girls got off to a flying start when Eimear finished after only 3 minutes and followed it up with another 2minutes later after she was tripped in the area and she stepped up and finished the penalty herself. Ciara was next to score and Sarah made sure by following up to ensure it crossed the line. The girls were playing some lovely football and Aisling Murphy, Niamh, Roisin(Capt) and Lauren gave them nothing at the back. Aoife worked really hard and her work rate was top class from start to finish. Courtney was next up to add to her seasons tally and just before the break Lauren made it 5 when she scored in the bottom right hand corner.

Second half and we made a number of more changes, Shauna came into midfield, replacing Shannon who had a very busy first half and Elena went into goals. These were on top of the changes already made in the first half when Doireann, Lucy, Ellen and Zara had joined the action. Aisling Harty was last to join the action but she made a big impact when she scored twice after 60 and 62 minutes. Sarah finished things off  just before the end with a fine finish to cap her player of the match performance.

Next up is Richmond at home next Saturday they have only been beaten once this season so far and will be a big test no doubt.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Lauren Linehan, Niamh Molloy, Roisin O Callaghan(Capt), Aisling Murphy, Aoife Mitchell, Eimear Lawlor, Courtney Histon, Shannon Cremin, Sarah Whelan, Ciara Lawlor, Doireann Conway, Ellen Harty, Lucy Horgan, Zara Bowles, Aisling Harty, Elena Kelleher.

Local Cup away to Hollyhill on Thursday 17th April 2014
Hollyhill 4 Midleton 0
This was always going to be a difficult task for the girls but they showed great grit and no little determination in their error to get to the cup final. From Shauna in goals and right the way up the field it was both  a football challenge and a physical challenge against the premier division's top side. Niamh, Catherine, Aisling Murphy and Lauren were strong at the back and helped by the had work of Aisling Harty, Shannon, Aoife and Eimear in  midfield, the girls kept them at bay untill  midway through the half when they got in behind and finished well. They followed up with another only 5 minutes later. Sarah and Ciara did their best up front but it was very difficult to get any space against the physically stronger Hollyhill defence. Courtney, Zara and Roisin came on and did very well. Roisin took up the role of marking their top player Maggie and did a great job. Unfortunately Maggie got hold of a rocket of a shot just before the break while sailed high over Shauna head into the back of the net.

Second half was a fresh start and overall a very credible performace by all the girls. From 1 to 11 each girl upped their game and effort. This nearly resulted in a goal when a good move ended in a shot from Courtney which spashed off the crossbar. It was a great battle in the second half and the girls rose to the challenge, with all digging deep to match their bigger and stronger opponents. In the end the only difference between the sides in the second half was caused by a mix up at the back when their forward stole in to make it 4. I'm sure this experience will stand to the girls in their efforts to win the 1st Division League over the coming month. Next up Castlelack away next Thursday 24th.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Aisling Murphy, Niamh Murphy, Catherine Walsh, Lauren Linehan, Aisling Harty, Shannon Cremin, Sarah Whelan, Eimear Lawlor (Capt), Ciara Lawlor, Ellen Harty, Aoife Mitchell, Roisin O'Callaghan, Courtney Histon, Zara Bowles, Elena Kelleher, Doireann Conway, Andrea Cuthbert, Lucy Horgan. Player of the Match - Roisin O'Callaghan

League away to Blarney on Thursday 3rd April 2014
Blarney 0 Midleton 7
Our first night time game and if the girls can match this performance every night they can go a long way. Arriving very late and having little time to warm up the girls got straight into the game and dominated from the word go. It a while to come but after 10 minutes Sarah got us of the mark. This was followed by Shannon scoring in the 20th minute after some slick passing. While the girls were playing some lovely football on an excellent pitch the Blarney keeper stood up to the challenge and keep her them in the game. Then just before half time Ciara got on the end of another good passing move and made it 3-0 at the break.

Shauna only had a handful of touches in the first half and that continued in the second due to the dominance of Lauren, Catherine, Niamh and Aisling Murphy across the back. The second half was only minutes old when Ciara struck again and appears to be really settling into the strickers role. This was followed by 2 goals in quick succession by Shannon to complete her hat trick. Roisin was next to join the score sheet with a powerful shoot to the roof of the net. The standard of football across the whole team was a joy to watch with the movement between Eimear, Courtney, Shannon and Aoife being particularly good. Aisling, Ellen,Zara and Elena also played their part on a wonderful display which keeps up the girls 100% league record and gets them ready for their hardest fixture yet this season away to  Hollyhill on Thursday 17th in the cup semi final. Doireann and Emma also travelled on the night but we unable to play due to the 16 player limit inforced on the night.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Doireann Conway, Emma O Sullivan, Aisling Murphy, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy(Capt.), Lauren Linehan, Zara Bowles, Aisling Harty, Roisin O Callaghan, Aoife Mitchell, Courtney Histon, Shannon Cremin, Eimear Lawlor, Sarah Whelan, Ciara Lawlor, Ellen Harty, Roisin O Callaghan.
Player of the Match ; Eimear Lawlor.

League away to Ballinhassig on Saturday 22nd March 2014
Ballinhassig 1 Midleton 5
On what was a cold and showery morning the girls set about winning this game straight from the off. Ciara took up a new role up front with Sarah and both did very well early on. Chances feel to both and it was a little furstrating to wait for the first goal but in the end a deflection helped Sarah to find the back of the net. Further chances came and the second came from a defence splitting pass which Sarah again finished very claimly. To Ballinhassigs credit they continued to work hard and the key player struck back to make it 2-1. This was one of the very few occasions that she managed to get away from Niamh who put in a great performance to restrict their key danger player to so few chances. More chances came and went before Shannon found the back of the net to make it 3-1 at half time. It was a very solid performance by all in the first half with Aoife and Lauren combining well down the left and Eimear attacking on the right.

Second half saw us play into the wind but again the girls continued to attack. Our defence of Lauren,Aisling Harty, Niamh and Aisling Murphy(Capt.) was very tight and on the few occasions they did get past, Shauna was sharp enough to stop them. The 4th did come when Shannon got on the end of a good through ball by Elena and she claimly finnished to the back of the net. Ellen and Emma came on up front as we continued to attack on all fronts and Eimear in the end got her reward for all her efforts when she found the back of the net after a great run down the right. Overall a great win for the girls and maintain their 100% record in the league. next up is away to Blarney on Thursday 3rd April at 6.30pm.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Lauren Linehan, Niamh Molloy, Aisling Harty, Aisling Murphy(Capt), Aoife Mitchell, Shannon Cremin, Elena Kelleher, Eimear Lawlor, Ciara Lawlor, Sarah Whelan, Emma O Sullivan, Ellen Harty, Lucy Horgan. Player of the Match; Niamh Molloy.

Local Cup at home to Passage on Saturday 8th March 2014
Midleton 3 Passage 2
This was a true cup game from start to finish. The game started with Passage going into an early lead and with our girls chasing the game from as early as the 5th minute. Against a slight breeze and on a sticky and bumpy pitch it was difficult to play good football but with Courtney, Elena, Ciara and Eimear in midfield they were always going to try. They continued to try their best to play into Zara and Shannon up front and did manage to create a few chances. The best chance falling to Courtney but unfortunately the ball bobbled as she went to shoot and it ended up going wide. Other chances for Shannon and Ciara were well saved by the Passage keeper. Our defence of Shauna, Lauren, Catherine, Niamh and Aisling Murphy were under regular pressure throughout the first half also but settled into the game after the unsettling start. Half time time and we trailed by 1-0.

Second half and with the slight wind assisting the girls pushed hard esspecially down both wings with Ciara and Eimear proving very effective at attacking the Passage defence. We were unlucky to get caught just offside on a couple of occassions when in good positions. But in the end a strong clearance from Shauna found Zara and a lovely through ball put Shannon in and she obliged with a good finish. This gave the girls a big left and Shannon followed up by hitting her next shot off the post. Things were looking good now but within minutes Passage had taken back the lead after a few good attacks which lead to good opportunities. Our defence and in particular Aisling were working really hard to limit their chances. Then as our girls dug deep and Courtney was repeatedly fouled and from one such foul deep inside their half she stepped up and struck as good a shot as I ve ever seen into the top right hand corner of the net giving their keeper no chance. What a relief and the girls were all delighted. Much as they tried in the final five minutes neither side could find that vital goal and onto extra time we went.

Playing with wind advantage in the first half our girls really went for it and Aisling Harty replaced the hard working Elena in midfield. Again Courtney was the one to get in the box and even though it wasn t her best shot it squeezed under the body of the Passage keeper and give us the lead at last. From here on our girls looked very solid and Aisling,  Catherine,  Niamh  and Lauren gave them no chance and all were trilled at the end to make it into the cup semi final. Next up will be a premier division side so we will need to be at our very best to make it to a Turners Cross final.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Lauren Linehan, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Aisling Murphy, Elena Kelleher,
Ciara Lawlor, Courtney Histon, Eimear Lawlor, Shannon Cremin, Zara Bowles, Aisling Harty, Ellen Harty, Andrea Cuthbert, Doireann Conway, Sadhbh Beausang, Lucy Horgan.

League away to Springfield Ramblers on Saturday 22nd February 2014
Midleton 6 Springfield Ramblers 0

Great to get back to playing matches, its been 2 months since the last U14 game due to Christmas and the bad weather. thankfully our girls were quick to get back to business and even playing against a strong wind they dominated from the beginning. We were solid at the back with Catherine and Zara in the middle and Ashling and Aoife on the wings.Following a couple of missed chances in the early stages Ciara broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when she won the ball in the right hand corner and somehow managed to run all the way to the goals and finished in the top corner. then just 2 minutes later, some lovely play down the right from Ashling to Ciara and then onto Courtney saw her go all the way and calmly finish past the advancing keeper. Further chances came and went, with great work being done by Sarah and Roisin up front helping create the chances but by half time the score was 2-0.

Second half and on came Emma and Andrea. Springfield had the first chance of the half which was dealt with by Shauna in goals but it didn't take long for Courtney to add to her tally and this was followed up by Shannon to make it 4-0 and in complete control of the game. Courtney went on to complete her hat-trick before Emear completed the scoring when she broke in from the right and went all the way to finnish in the far corner.
Player of the Match : Courtney Histon

Team: Shauna Horgan, Ashling Murphy, Catherine Walsh, Zara Bowles, Aoife Mitchell, Emear Lawlor,
Shannon Cremin, Courtney Histon, Ciara Lawlor, Roisin O'Callaghan, Sarah Whelan, Andrea Cuthbert,
Emma O'Sullivan, Lucy Horgan, Lauren Linehan.

Cup at home to Crosshaven on Saturday 7th December 2013
Midleton 8 Crosshaven 0

Unfortunately this was always one sided as our visitors only had 9 players due to illness. But it must be said they worked their socks off in the first half and kept the score down to just 3-0. A superb goal by Sarah on her debut and goals from Lauren and Courtney made up the rest of the first half goals. Aisling Murphy made a vital interception to prevent them scoring when they looked likely to score and had to leave the field due the injury picked up while doing so.

The second half saw Courtney complete her hat trick and also Shannon grab herself a hat trick. Overall a solid performance across the back by Aisling Harty, Aisling Murphy, Niamh and in particular Catherine. Ellen did very well in midfield and won lots of ball to feed to her team mates. Zara and Elena also played their part as did Emma on the left wing for most of the game. Aoife and Sarah did very well in attack and Aoife nearly made the score sheet at the end but her shot went narrowly wide. In the end a good win but difficult to judge how good because of the under strength opposition. Player of the Match, Shannon Cremin.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Niamh Molloy, Aisling Harty, Catherine Walsh, Aisling Murphy, Shannon Cremin, Courtney Histon(Capt), Ellen Harty, Emma O'Sullivan, Lauren Linehan, Sarah Whelan, Aoife Mitchell,
Zara Bowles, Ellena Kelleher.

League at home to Castlelack on Saturday 23rd November 2013
Midleton 9 Castlelack 0

This was a game that showed how much our girls have learned over the last few years. Castlelack are in their first season and the experience of our girls really showed today. From the word go Courtney dominated the middle and sprayed passes left and right putting Ciara and Eimear into good positions every time. Ciara started the scoring in the 5th minute when she cut in and finished well. Then Eimear did likewise from the other wing and within 15 minutes it was 3-0 when Eimear scored again. Lauren then added to it with a lovely left foot finish from inside the area. Andrea, Doireann and Ellen did very well when they came on and Andrea nearly scored before half time.

Elena allowed Shauna a run outfield in the second half and it was good to see several of the girls play in new positions and do so well. Sadhbh also joined the action up front but it was Zara who scored her first goal. Ellen also got her first score with a well taken penalty which was what she deserved for such a good performance. Ciara added to her tally as did Lauren from left back. The back four of Catherine, Lauren and the 2 Aislings gave little away all day and Elena was up to the best chance they created on the day. Shannon rounded of the scoring in the final minutes but I m sure there will be tougher days ahead.

Munster Cup at home to Cashel on Saturday 9th November 2013
Midleton 0 Cashel 1

This was a game that we didn't get what we deserved from our efforts. The girls dominated for long periods and proved very strong at the back with Charley, Dionne, Lauren and Lily giving them no chances to score. The first real chance feel to Lauren when a corner from Courtney broke to the edge of the box and Lauren never quite got hold of the shot. Then disaster struck when they were awarded a penalty which they duely scored. To our girls credit they continued to play very well and a superb shot by Elena flew just over the crossbar. Ciara and Emear pressed down both wings and Aoife and Kate kept their defence on their toes. Zara and Shannon came on to play their part in getting back into the game.

The second half saw more of the same with Aisling Murphy coming on and Charley had a wonderful shot from long range well saved by their keeper who had a very solid game. Courtney who was diffinitely the best player on view tried very hard to get the equaliser and went very close when her shot flew across the goals and just wide. Then a cross found Shannon in the box who looked to have scored but the ball hit the post and went across the goal line before being cleared. Aisling Harty came in also at right back and did very well. In the end we just never got that bit of luck and for the second time in just over a month Cashel beat us 1-0. We all enjoyed some light refreshments afterwards and we wish them the best of luck in the semi final.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Lauren Linehan, Charley Moore(Capt), Dionne Carroll, Lily Duggan, Ciara Lawlor, Elena Kelleher, Courtney Histon, Emear Lawlor, Kate Desmond, Aoife Mitchell, Catherine Walsh, Aisling Murphy, Ellen Harty, Aisling Harty, Shannon Cremin, Zara Bowles.

League at home to Springfield Ramblers on Saturday 12th October 2013
Midleton 5 Springfield Ramblers 1

First league game and the girls really got off to a flier. With Aoife, Ciara and Eimear all playing their first game we didn't know what to expect but all proved to be great additions to the squad. After only 5 minutes and a few attempts on goal the ball found the net as Elena steped up to finish from close range. Within minutes it was 2-0 as Zara hit a long range shot which was misjudged by their keeper and found the back of the net. The girls were playing some very attractive and positive football finding their team mates with lots of passes, Aoife was a real torn in their sides everytime she got the ball and her use of the ball was a joy to watch. Then after 25 minutes it was Aislings chance to score her first goal as she placed the ball perfectly into the corner of the net. To Ramblers credit they tried hard to get at us and on a rear attack they got in a good cross and a fine finish by Amy Bryne got the score back to 3-1 at half time.

Second half and our girls got back to basics and more good football saw Shannon extend our lead again. Ciara moved forward more and played some lovely football down the right with Zara and Niamh. All the time our backs including Eimear, Catherine, Lauren and Shauna in goals gave very little away to allow them back into the game. Ellen came on up front and added to her growing confidence with a very fine display. The rest of our squad Sadhbh, Doireann and Birthday girl Andrea also came on to do their part for the team. in the last few minutes a lovely move down the right involving Elena, Zara and Ciara ended with Ciara finishing from a tight angle for her first goal.
