Under 12 Girls 2013/14 Match Reports

League at home to Bandon on Tuesday 27nd May 2014
Midleton 1 Bandon 2
Final game of the season and a very competitive game it was too against a Bandon side, who finished the season as runners up to Passge in the league. Holly started again in goals and again had a very good game making several excellent saves. At the back Aisling controled things and with Mook and Emma on both sides they gave little away, Zara, Elena, Sadhbh and Roisin worked up and down the field and Lucy completed the starting team up front. As in all our U12 games this season everyone played and throughout the game Caoimhe, Fiona, Nicole, Neasa and Vivienne played their parts in diferent positions.

Half time was 0-0 but early in the second half Bandon took the lead and Bandon went 2 ahead a while later even after Holly made a great full length diving save to her right the rebound was well finished. The game was still close and when Aisling scored from a free kick it was a nail biting finish. In the end 2-1 and an end to a fine season with some excellent performances and a lot learned for next year. Top goal scorer for the season went to a shoot out which Elena won against an unlucky Sadhbh. Well done to both.

Team - Lucy Horgan, Elena Kelleher, Aisling Harty, Zara Bowles, Sadhbh Beausang, Holly Hoban, Vivienne Gleeson, Neasa O'Brien, Roisin O'Brien, Caoimhe Murray, Nicole McCarthy, Mook Long, Fiona Hourigan, Emma Fitzgerald.

League at home to Douglas Hall on Thursday 22nd May 2014
Midleton 1 Douglas Hall 4
Second last game of the season and it was a very good performance from some of our younger girls which gives us great hope for next season. Starting with Holly back in goals and performing very well. To be fair to Douglas they played some lovely football in the first half and went close several times. Thanks to Holly and her defence of Mook, Sadhbh and Emma  they were kept scoreless and a moment of magic from Aisling saw her score direct for a corner only 5 minutes from half time.

Roisin, Lucy and Caoimhe all did very weel and Fiona started in the unfamiliar role up front. Nicole was the final member of the team and we rotated the girls so all got plenty of  game time. Douglas really had the better of the second half and they did get their rewards as when they got their first goal they just seemed to get better. In the end the 4-1 scoreline didn't really do justice to our girls efforts on the night. Final game is home to Bandon on Tuesday night and we look forward to seeing as many of the panel as possible for the last game of the season.

Team - Holly Hoban, Nicole McCarthy, Emma Fitzpatrick, Sadhbh Beausang, Mook Long, Roisin O'Brien,
Aisling Harty, Lucy Horgan(Capt), Caoimhe Murray, Fiona Hourigan. Player of the Match - Holly Hoban.

League away to Wilton on Saturday 17th May 2014
Wilton 5 Midleton 0
Third last game on a very hot day and a bit of tiredness is setting in. Vivienne started in goals and was in the action early when she made a great save at the feet of the Wilton forward. Wilton dominated the first half and took a deserved lead after 15 minutes and got their second before the break. All the time our defence of Mook, Lucy and Fiona battled for every ball and midfielders Sadhbh, Aisling, Roisin and Caoimhe did everything to get a grip of the game and Nicole and Emma played their part too.

The best part of this game must have been the half time break when our age old problem of what Vivienne would do with the jelly in her Jaffa Cakes was finally sorted when Lucy agreed to swap her biscuit part for Viviennes jelly parts. Second half and Wilton continued to press forward in numbers and added to the scoreline. Zara also played her part in the second half but Wilton were just too strong for us on the day.

Team - Vivienne Gleeson, Lucy Horgan, Aisling Harty, Mook Long, Caoimhe Murray, Nicole McCarthy, Emma Fitzgerald, Fiona Hourigan, Sadhbh Beausang, Zara Bowles, Roisin O'Brien(Capt)
Player of the Match - Vivienne Gleeson

League away to Passage on Saturday 10th May 2014
Passage 3 Midleton 1
It was a very difficult day to play football but both teams did their best to make this a very good game. We started with Lucy taking up the keeper position and Aisling, Mook and Fiona(Capt) across the back and they did very well in the first half against a strong wind. Unfortunately Passage took the lead after 10 minutes from a corner and it took lots of hard work to get back into the game but great play from Zara, Roisin, Elena and Sadhbh ended with Sadhbh getting the equaliser just before half time. Vivienne took the forward role for the first time and did very well and was unlucky not score.

Half time and Nicole joined the action and did very well at left back. It was a half which we dominated with the help of the strong wind but just couldn t score. In fairness to the Passage team their keeper was on top form and when they did get a chance up front they managed to take them. In the end we were beaten 3-1 but it was a much tighter game then the score suggests. Next up is Wilton away next Saturday.

Team - Lucy Horgan, Aisling Harty, Mook Long, Fiona Hourigan(Capt), Elena Kelleher, Zara Bowles, Sadhbh Beausang, Roisin O Brien, Vivienne Gleeson, Nicole Gleeson.
Player of the Match - Roisin O Brien.

Local Cup at home to Douglas Hall on Saturday 12th April 2014
Midleton 1 Douglas Hall 4
This was a difficult result to understand considering the amount of possession the girls enjoyed for the whole game. We started the game well and then after just 10 minutes with what was their first attack, Douglas scored. We continued to press forward with Roisin, Elena, Sadhbh and Vivienne working really hard in midfield and Lucy up front. The game went from end to end with Douglas forcing us to shoot from distance and their keeper did well to save some of our efforts which hit the target. Then after 20 minutes Douglas struck again. To our girls credit they dug deep and Elena had the ball in the back of their net when she struck a great corner kick which their keeper failed to hold for once and it ended up in the back of the net. 2-1 approaching the break but then they struck again to make it 3-1 at half time.

Second half and Mook and Zara joined the action. Our defense of Emma, Caoimhe and Aisling held firm and Holly collected anything that got past them. We attacked and attacked all through the half and shots just couldn't find the target and when they did their keeper was well in control. The best effort was a long range shot by Elena which rattled the crossbar and Lucy's follow up was well blocked. Then with 10 minutes left they got behind our defense and finished very well, giving Holly no chance in goals. With great credit our girls kept going in search of the goals they deserved but they just wouldn t come. In the end Douglas march onto the semi final and we wish them well but our girls are already looking forward to meeting them again in the league to prove they can do lots better then todays scoreline suggests.

Team- Holly Hoban, Caoimhe Murray, Aisling Harty, Emma Fitzgerald, Mook Long, Roisin O'Brien,
Elena Kelleher, Sadhbh Beausang(Capt.), Zara Bowles, Lucy Horgan, Vivienne Gleeson.
Player of the Match- Vivienne Gleeson

Local Cup at home to Hollyhill on Saturday 1st March 2014
Midleton 3 Hollyhill 4
It was 2 months since the last game due to the weather and the girls were delighted to get back to business with this double header which was a cup and league game in one due to the number of games both teams have missed. Sadhbh got the scoring on the road when she finished to add to her seasons tally, Hollyhill were fighting all the way and equalised before Lucy once more gave us the lead. The visiters were back on level terms before the break but a few of our girls had felt the physical presence of Hollyhill and needed some attention. Half time and 2-2 ment we had everything to play for.

Second half and we took the lead for the third time when Aisling finished to the back of the net to the delight of all her team mates. But unfortunately Hollyhill came back again to equalise and went on to take the lead with what proved to be the winning goal. A hard day one for all the girls but all played their part and we now look forward to the league divisions begining next month. Players of the match went to Aisling and Zara. Final score 4-3 to Hollyhill after a great game. Thanks to Brian McCarthy for looking after everything for the team.

Team: Vivienne Gleeson, Caoimhe Murray, Aisling Harty, Fiona Hourigan, Zara Bowles, Elena Kelleher,
Roisin O'Brien, Lucy Horgan, Sadhbh Beausang, Emma Fitzgerald, Mook Long, Madison Power, Nicole McCarthy, Neasa O'Brien.

Local Cup at home to Wilton United on Saturday 4th January 2014
Midleton 1 Wilton United 0
After a long break since their last game the U12 girls got back in form with a very good first round win over Wilton. The girls started very strong with Elena, Zara, Aisling and Lucy particularly strong in the opening 15 minutes. Wilton then came more into the game and Sadhbh, Nicole and Amy had to be on their best form to prevent them scoring. Any shot Wilton did manage to get on goal was very well dealt with by player of the match Holly in goals. Then after about 20 minutes a good attack through the middle by Elena ended with a good pass which Roisin cleverly left for Zara who meet it with full force and hammered the ball to the roof of the net from 20 yards out. A great finish and no less then Zara deserved for her hard work in the first half.

Second half and Neasa came on for Lucy (Capt) at centre forward and had a very good half. Caoimhe had already come on for Roisin and Vivienne had changed with Nicole and both did very well in defence. This half was end to end stuff and chances came at both ends. Our best chances fell to Sadhbh and Elena but their keeper was good enough to stop their efforts. Holly was called into action on more then one occasion but continued to show what a safe pair of hands she has. We then switched Holly with Vivienne and Vivienne showed she had good hands for the job also as Wilton tried everything to get that all  important equaliser. But in the end our girls held out for an impressive win and now look forward to the quarter final next month.

Team - Holly Hoban, Nicole McCarthy, Sadhbh Beausang, Amy Morrissey, Aisling Harty, Elena Kelleher,
Roisin O'Brien, Zara Bowles, Lucy Horgan (Capt.), Vivienne Gleeson, Neasa O'Brien, Caoimhe Murray.
Player of the Match - Holly Hoban.

League at home to Wilton United on Saturday 30th November 2013
Midleton 3 Wilton United 1
This was a very competitive game from start to finish and it was great to see our girls come out on top. We started well with Elena and Zara doing lots of work in midfield supported on both sides by Sadhbh and Roisin. Lucy controlled the back and was helped by Aisling and Fiona in the full back positions. It was Elena who in the end broke the deadlock with a well taken goal which at first their keeper stopped but as the ball broke loose Elena followed up to get to the rebound first. We continued to control the game for long periods and Holy was well in control of any shot hit at her. Then just before half time Sadhbh found the ball at her feet about 20 yards out and had a shot which flew straight to the top right hand corner for a superb goal. Emma who started up front then made way for Caoimhe and Fiona made way for Chi Chi, Nicole also came on as we continued to rotate the girls on the field.

Second half and again Zara worked tirelessly up and down the field and they sometimes resorted to fouling as the only way to stop her. Elena became the hero again with her second of the day. Wilton to their credit continued to try hard and did find the roof of the net from Ali Cummins with 10 minutes to play. In the end 3-1 was a fair result and the 2 teams will meet again in 2 weeks time in the first round of the cup, this time in Wilton.

Team - Holy Hoban, Lucy Horgan, Fiona Hourigan, Aishling Harty, Elena Kelleher (Capt.), Zara Bowles,
Sadhbh Beausang, Roisin O'Brien, Emma Fitzgerald, Chi Chi Ostiad, Nicole McCarthy, Caoimhe Murray.
Player of the Match : Lucy Horgan.

League at home to Watergrasshill United on Saturday 16th November 2013
Midleton 6 Watergrasshill United 3
What a game! From the off set it was all go. We looked very strong with Vivienne in goals  and Sadhbh, Aisling and Nicole across the back. Elena, Zara and Roisin were flying in midfield and it looked only a matter of time before we would make the break through. But it was then a quick break by Waregrasshill that flew past Vivienne's post. In the end Zara broke the deadlock with a great shot that went in off the post and was made sure of by Lucy. Fair play to Watergrasshill they struck back very quickly and even though Vivienne made a great save the Ref judged the ball was over the line. Amy and Lucy were looking very dangerous up front and finally Lucy got her chance and struck it into the top corner for the lead again. But again Watergrasshill came back and made it 2-2 at the break.

At this stage Fiona Emma and Stephenie had joined the action. Second half and time for more changes, Holly took up the goalkeepers spot and Clodagh, Madison and Neasa also joined the action. It was as before and after Elena put us back in front they replied to make it 3-3. it was then that we really put the pressure on with Aisling making great runs into attack and resulting in Elena scoring 2 more goals for her first "Hat Trick". Elena then switched with Aisling who in turn scored to make it 6-3. A game full of entertainment and enjoyed by all. A first win of the season for the U12s and hope they will now be well up for Wilton in the Cup in 2 weeks time.

Team:Vivienne Gleeson, Holly Hoban, Sadhbh Beausang, Aisling Harty, Nicole McCarthy, Elena Kelleher, Zara Bowles(Capt.) Roisin O Brien, Amy Morrissey, Lucy Horgan, Fiona Hourigan, Clodagh Ahern, Emma Fitzpatrick, Neasa O Brien, Stephenie Carroll, Madison Power.

League away to Carrigaline United on Saturday 19th October 2013
Carrigaline United 4 Midleton 1
It was always going to be tough game against last years Premier League Champions but the girls really did themselves proud. The first half was very evenly contested and if anything we had the better of the exchanges. Zara took up the centre back position and really handled it well with Caoimhe and Fiona on both sides. Elena and Amy took the midfield role with Roisin and Ashling on either sides. The starting team was completed with Lucy up front hoping to add to her goal in the first game. Vivienne started in goals and did very well and was only beaten once after 20minutes. The girls hit back very quickly when Elena finished to the net only to be called back for a free on the edge of the area. Up stepped Ashling and hit an unstoppable free kick to the roof of the net. 1-1 at half time and Madison, Nicole,Clodagh, Emma, Stephenie and Neasa had joined the action.

We continued to rotate the players right through the second half and it probably was difficult for the girls to maintain their concentration. Amy took the keeper position for the second half and was very unlucky not to stop their second goal which looked like an off side was missed by the ref. Carrigaline went on to add two more goals but the girls continued to press for goals of our own and a wonderfull run by Zara down the right was meet by Elena who saw her shot go narrowly wide. There are diffinite signs of improvement from all the girls that are new to the 9 a side game. Roll on the next game away to Hollyhill in two weeks time.
Player of the Match: Zara Bowles

Team - Vivienne Gleeson, Caoimhe Murray, Fiona Hourihan, Zara Bowles, Elena Kelleher, Roisin O'Brien,
Amy Morrissey, Ashling Harty, Lucy Horgan, Nicole McCarthy, Clodagh Ahern, Emma Fitzpatrick,
Madison Power, Stephenie Carroll, Neasa O'Brien.

League at home to Douglas Hall on Saturday 5th October 2013
Midleton 1 Douglas Hall 5
First game of the season and first match for so many of the girls. The girls started very well and Elena went very close with a super strike after only 5 minutes but then on their first attack Douglas scored and followed it up with another just minutes later. Two down but still playing very well a fine move started by Elena who found Roisin who in turn found Lucy in a good position. Lucy took the ball forward towards goal and finished it to the net. Great team work for a lovely goal. The girls tried hard to get the second before half time without success. Amy was playing very well in goals aided by Caoimhe,Sadhbh and Fiona at the back. Roisin and Emma worked very hard in midfield and Chichi up front.

We started to make some changes and Mook, Nicole, Neasa, Clodagh and Stephenie all came on to play their part. It was great to see all giving that extra effort needed for a match and I m sure they all enjoyed it. As the game went on our girls tried and Douglas scored 3 more but I m sure the training our girls will do over the coming weeks will see them improve greatly over the year.
