Under 12 2013/14 Premier Division Match Reports

League at home to Rockmount on Wednesday 28th May 2014
Midleton 3 Rockmount 1

Last game of a long season and Rockmount were to be the opposition. Having won the last 2 games, we were hoping to continue the run and finish the season on a high. Both teams started the game brightly and went searching for the breaktrough goal but with both teams defending well it was hard to see the goal coming. The half time whistle came just as we began to gain the upper hand. H/T 0-0

The half time team talk was had and jaffas and water taken on board, now it was time to up the game in the 2nd half. We started with a bit more desire and drive and it was not long before good play in the 37th between Neil and Patrik released Sam who still had work to do but rounded 2 defenders and crashed the ball to the back of the net to put us 1 nil up. Soon it was to be 2 nil as that man Sam broke through the Rockmount defence again and cooly slotted the ball past the Rockmount keeper. To be fair to Rockmount the came into the game a bit and got a goal of their own in the 50th min but never looked a threat again after that as we took control of the ball for the reamainder of the game scoring again in the 54th min to seal the game and points when the ball was played out of defence to Conor who controlled with 1 touch and releasded to Sam but rather than completing the hat trick and joining Christopher on top the goal scoring charts he returned the ball Conor who supported Sams run and powered it home. Great team work. F/T 3-1

Last man of the match for the season goes to Sam Fashola who couldn't stop scoring over the last couple of games. Had another great game tonight. Well done Sam. Great season by everyone. We competed well in the top division and played in the cup final in Turners Cross in our first competitive season. Every player in the squad should be proud of what we have achieved. Enjoy the summer break.

League away to Carrigaline United on Saturday 25th May 2014
Carrigaline United 1 Midleton 2

Midleton were up against a very strong Carrigaline team today. The Magpie defence had to be well organised with the home team applying lots of pressure. Half way through the first half, Conor with some great footwork managed to break through Carrigaline defence and put the ball into the back of the net. Five minutes later Carrigaline forward broke through Midleton defence and smashed a shot past Midleton keeper. First half; Carrigaline 1, Midleton 1.

Second half saw Midleton starting with intent, with some great passing and ball movement. Sam who is a real live wire collected a great pass and took a great shot to put the ball in to the back of the net, after a few nervous moments, Midleton held out to take another three points, Well done Midleton! Man of the match goes to, Sam Fashola who was a constant threat throughout the game. Well done Sam.

League at home to Lakewood Athletic on Wednesday 21st May 2014
Midleton 2 Lakewood Athletic 1

3 league games to go and another mid week game at home against Lakewood. With the Gaa now in full swing, our squad was looking fairly thin. None the less, we had our pre-match and the challenge was set to the players to set a target of finishing the season unbeaten. The game itself started very well for us with us passing the ball around very comfortably and looking dangerous. Conor was close with the first strike of the game after good work from Neil in midfield. Patrik was to after win a corner which he took himself and landed a good ball onto the onrushing Neil who powered the ball to the back of the Lakewood net. 1 nil to the magpies after 5 mins. We were comfortable for the remainder of the half without getting anymore clear chances at goal despite Christopher and Sam's best efforts. The defenders Ben, Aidan, Robbie and Cian giving the opposition no chances on goal. H/T 1-0

Second half and Lakewood came at us with a bit more purpose. We were under a bit of pressure for the early part and conceded a corner, the ball was crossed in and met by a lakewood player who directed it towards goal only to be saved well by Shane but unluckily it was to fall to another Lakewood player who rifled it home. All square and anyones game. Another setback was loosing Christopher to injury but instead of  feeling sorry for ourselves we regrouped and started to play some good football again and looked like we were the side looking most likely to score next. Sam almost got one after 45 mins after good play from Kane but he didn't have to wait long before his next chance as he was played through by Neil and cooly slotted the ball past the Lakewood keeper in the 49 min. A deserved lead and we never looked like giving it up again as we finished out the game like pros. 2-1 it was to finish. A solid performance right throughout the team. F/T score 2-1

Man of the match this week was between Sam, Neil and Robbie. The award this week goes to Neil Cunningham who worked the middle of the pitch so well today covering some much grass, scoring one and setting up the other. Well done Neil.

League at home to Corinthian Boys on Wednesday 14th May 2014
Midleton 0 Corinthian Boys 4

A week on from the cup final and we were to face Corinthians again. The game was to start a frantic pace and we were to  escape early on as the visitors hit the woodwork twice within the opening minutes. We settled into the game after that but couldn't get any clear path at goal desipite Conor and Christopher's best efforts. We were unlucky to concede on 18 mins and a mistake in defence resulted in Corinthians making it 2 nil on 22 mins. H/T score 0-2

The second half started with us pushing higher up the pitch which was gonna leave us a little more open at the back. We did enjoy the opening  mins of the 2nd half but we were to concede again on 40 mins with a break away goal. We still worked hard to try and get something from the game if only a concelation goal.  Subs Kane, Leo, Trevor, Sam and Tomas helped us put the away team under pressure. We continued to search for the break through but it was to Corinthians who were to score the games 4th and final goal from the penalty spot after the referee awarded a penalty for a foul that was just outside the box. F/T score 0-4

Man of the match this week goes to Conor Fitzgerald who worked his sock off for the whole game and continued his recent good form. Well done Conor.

League at home to Douglas Hall on Sunday 11th May 2014
Midleton 2 Douglas Hall 1

Midleton gained a valuable three points after a 2-1 victory at home to Douglas Hall on Sunday morning in the Umbro U12 premier division. Midleton knew going into this encounter that they had to get a maximum of three points to guarantee themselves premier football next season and in fairness they never looked like loosing this match. It is hard to understand how Midleton found themselves in this precarious position as they are impressive all over the pitch. Half way through the first half Patrik Kane putting his side 1-0 up with a well taken free from well outside the box. Just before half time Christopher O'Connor after being delivered an inch perfect pass who blasted the ball into the back of the net. Half-time, Midleton 2-0

Secound half and gradually Douglas Hall came more into the game and managed to put the ball past Midleton goalkeeper. With the score 2-1 Midleton looked a bit nervous but as the game went on Midleton began to settle.

Full time whistle was blown, Midleton secured the three points and Manager Dermot O'Halloran was delighted with the determination and heart of the team. Man of the match this week goes to Conor Fitzgerald for his tireless display, Well done Conor

Local Final v Corinthians Boys in Turner's Cross on Tuesday 6th May 2014
Corinthians Boys 3 Midleton 0

Our first season in competitive football and here we were in the Local cup final at Turners Cross. We started this season with modest hopes of remaining in the Premier division and having a run in the cups. We have grown so much this season as team. Beating 3 fellow premier teams on the way to the final, we were faced with the task of the current Premier division leaders.

The game itself started with both teams looking very nervous but Corinthians seemed to settle fastest as they got the first shot off on Shane's goal after 5 mins only for Shane to save well. Patrik , Conor and Tomas linked well on 7 mins but Tomas was unlucky with his shot. Corinthians turned defence into attack fast but Robbie was sharp and cleared the ball for a corner. We were to go a goal down from the corner as it was delivered into the box and met by a powerful header which beat Shane on this occasion. Both teams made every effort to get the on the score sheet next with Conor, Christopher, Tomas and Patrik working very hard for the magpies front line. Cian, Nei , Robbie and Leo gave their all in the defence and when they were beat, we had the Magnificent Shane in goal saving the day. In particular an excellent save in the 25 min when the Corinthians striker raced through one on one. H/T score 0-1

The second half started with the hope that we could get at them but they were very well organised at the back and limited us to scraps. Unfortunately a mix up in defence left Corinthians through to score a 2nd in the 35th min. We kept trying to create some openings with Paul, Dylan and Patrik now pushing on a little further. Subs Trevor, Kane, Sam and Ben coming on helping us with fresh legs as we desperately tried to get a goal back. We were to concede a 3rd goal in the 54th min as the game was getting stretched and legs were getting tired. We worked to end of the game, just as this spirited bunch of players do but it was not to be our day as we were beaten by the better team on the day.

It was a great achievement in making it to the final and this squad should be very proud of themselves in making it there. Who knows, next year could be our year now that we have a taste for the big time. Well done every member of the squad. A special word of thanks as well to everyone who supported us on the night.

Squad on the night: Patrik Kane (captain),  Shane O'Shea, Ben Napier, Cian Keohane, Aidan Slye, Robbie Treacy, Andrew Kelly, Neil Cunningham, Kane Rowlands, Leo Hennessy, Trevor Shine, Paul Connaughton, Dylan O'Halloran, Christopher O'Connor, Sam Fashola, Conor Fitzgerald, Tomas Lambe and Daniel Cagney.

Man of the match on the night was between Tomas, Robbie and Shane. The award goes to Shane O'Shea who continues to excel in goal. He's had a superb run of late and continues to show us why he's in the Under 12 Cork squad. Well done Shane. Another class performance.

Local Cup away to Rockmount on Wednesday 30th April 2014
Rockmount 0 Midleton 0
. Midleton win on penalties.
Midleton were away to Rockmount in the semi-final of the cup and came away with a deserved win. This was always going to be a tough game as Rockmount were going well in the Premier League. In the first half both teams were very cagey with no clear cut chances for either side as both defences were on top form. Start of the second half we were now playing with more confidence and playing with a purpose. Midleton were unlucky not to score with so many chances  cleared off the line, with both teams giving their all full time whistle 0-0.

Extra time started well for us our boys sensed that the home team were tiring, but to be fair to Rockmount they never dropped their heads. Both teams gave their all. Full time after extra time 0-0. Nervous time ahead with penalties, after a team talk, Patrik, Niel, Christopher, Dylan and Aidan were selected to do the honours. With Patrik, Neil, Christopher, Dylan banging in the goals and Shane, Midleton goalkeeper on top form with two great saves. Midleton 4-2 penalties.

Midleton to the joy of the away fans booked their place in the final Man of the match went to Shane O' Shea for the consistent form and his great saves. Well done Shane.

Team of the night - Shane O' Shea, Leo Hennessy, Neil Cunningham, Robbie Treacy, Cian Keohane, Dylan O' Hallaron, Patrik Kane, Paul Connaugton, Conor Fitzgerald, Christoper O' Connor, Thomá¡s Lamb, Kane Rowlands, Trevor Shine, Andrew Kelly, Sam Fashola, Aidan Slye and Ben Napier.

League away to St Mary's on Sunday 27th April 2014
St Mary's 1 Midleton 0

Back to league again this Sunday away to St Mary's  after  what was unbelievable last match. We started this match with Trevor, Robbie, Leo and Ben in the back. Andrew, Conor, Paul, Kane and Cian in midfield with Sam playing up front his own.  The game started with us looking very tired and Mary's enjoying the share of possession but we were defending well and Shane was in top form when called upon. The clearest opportunity of the half fell to the home side with Shane again pulling of a superb save. In fact we were happy to hear the half time whistle so we could gather our thoughts. H/T 0-0

The second half started  with Christopher, Neil and Patrik coming off  the bench with hope that they could kick start our passing game but again the home team seemed to get the upper hand in early minutes but you could see we were finally growing into the game with some good play between Kane, Conor and Christopher down the right with Christopher unlucky not to get the strike away fully. In fact, in cruel blow just as we were getting a good foothold in the game. St Mary's were awarded a free, which was swung in and controlled by the Mary's forward hand (Thierry Henry eat ur heart out) and dispatched past the helpless and bemused Shane. Everyone at the game including the home teams managers saw it should have been a free out but somehow the referee manage not to see it. Goal given. We tried as we do to lift our game but I think it was just not to be our day as never really got  any clear chances. The home team could have doubled their advantage but for a couple of great saves again from Shane.

Man of the match this week was a clear choice as without him, the game could have been over early on. This week it goes Shane O'Shea. Well done Shane. A great display of goalkeeping.

Local Cup away to Ringmahon Rangers on Tuesday 22nd April 2014
Ringmahon Rangers 1 Midleton 2

Local cup game away to Ringmahon Rangers this week. It was to be our 3rd time meeting this season and what a game it turned out to be. Ringmahon started well and were the quickest off the mark. Half way through the first half, Ringmahon managed to break through the left wing where the Midleton defence failed to clear, but for the Ringmahon forward he left rip from the tightest of angles and left the ball to drop under the cross bar past Shane, the Midleton goalkeeper. A great goal by Ringmahon. A goal down seemed to shake Midleton into life with a semi-final place up for grabs. The defence led by Neil, Robbie, Cian and Leo really got their act together with the defence more settled. The midfield led by Paul, Patrik and Dylan and also on the wing Conor and Christopher began to push forward and Tomás a lone striker, was beginning to be a constant threat in the Ringmahon defence. With the football getting fast and furious, tackles were flying left, right and centre. Midleton player Leo picking up a yellow card in the process. One minute before half time Patrik firing a lovely cross and Christopher meeting it perfectly, who took a long range shot past the Ringmahon goalkeeper. Halftime result was 1-1.

The second half was to start the same as the first, but we were having a lot more clear cut chances keeping the Ringmahon goalkeeper busy. Kane and Sam coming on were always a threat in the Ringmahon defence. With tackles flying all over the pitch and Leo lucky not to be sent off for a tackle on a Ringmahon player. It seemed nobody wanted to lose this game but unfortunately the full time whistle was blown. Full time result 1-1.

As it was a cup game extra time had to be played. After refreshments and a team talk we started the first half of extra time. Five minutes into the first of extra time a corner was taken by Patrik which Sam connected with a beautiful header to put the ball into the back of the net. Second half of extra time and fresh legs, Trevor Shine coming on to help his Midleton team mates. Ringmahon with an all out attack to get that goal which would bring it to penalties, but with Midleton goalkeeper and the Midleton defence in outstanding form, the full whistle was blown. It was to be Midletpns day.

The team of the night: Shane O'Shea, Leo Hennessy, Neil Cunningham,Robbie Treacy, Cian Keohane, Dylan O Halloran, Patrik Kane, Paul Connaugton, Conor Fitzgerald, Christopher O Connor, Thomás Lamb, Sam Fashola, Kane Rowlands and Trevor Shine.

Man of the match was so difficult as everyone gave their all, but man of the match goes to Shane O'Shea for his cool head and constant saves. Well done Shane.

Local Cup away to Leeds on Friday 11th April 2014
Leeds 1 Midleton 4

Local cup last 16 game away to Leeds this week. This was to be our 4th time meeting Leeds this season. The game began well for both sides with each side trying to play good football. Clear chances were limited early on, the first 1 was to come with Christopher to get on the end of nice through ball from Kane but the home keeper stood big as he shot. Leeds pushed on as they settled into the game but our defence stood firm on all occasions. The deadlock was finally broken in the 22nd minute when a dangerous ball was played into Christopher who controlled and left it to Conor who buried the ball to the back of the net. Despite both teams creating chances, the half time was to be 0-1.

Into the 2nd half and we were now playing with more confidence and playing with a purpose. You got the sense that there was more goals to come very early on. In the 36 min, Kane took the ball down the right  played it to Christopher in the corner, he beat the left back and drilled a low cross across the box to Patrik who guided to the far corner. Andrew, Leo, Trevor and Tomas came on to help us drive on and that they did as it was to be Leo getting on the end of a through ball and crashed it goal wards only it come back off the cross bar, Cian first to react only for his shot to come back off the post but again it was to be a young magpie to react first with Tomas planting it to the back of the net. Leeds did not give up and were to get a reward in the 48 minute with nice finish over the unlucky Shane in the Midleton goal. We continued to press and we were to get the last goal of the game with a nice exchange of passes between Cian and Leo on the right wing, Leo bared down  on goal and cooly chipped the on rushing Leeds keeper. A Great finish. We ran out 4-1 winners, Leeds wished us well as we progressed to the last 8 full of confidence. A very solid performance from the squad again tonight.

Man of the match this week was between Nei , Christopher and Cian. This week it goes to Cian Keohane who influenced this game very early on and continued to show his recent good form. Well done Cian.

League away to Springfield Ramblers on Sunday 23rd March 2014
Springfield Ramblers 1 Midleton 2

This week we traveled the short journey to John Murphy Memorial park in Cobh to take on Springfield Ramblers who currently sit bottom of the Premier Division but we knew coming into this game that Ramblers were a good strong side with recent good results behind them. The game started well for us with good early procession in our favour and the players linking very well most notably our 2 full backs Trevor & Cian and the 2 wingers Kane & Patrik. We knocked the ball around patiently like we knew something was going to come our way. Our first clear shot on goal came after 12 mins when Paul played a perfectly weighted pass to Patrik on the left wing, he skipped past the full back and crossed to Christopher who controlled it and laid it off to Paul who shot from the edge of the box only to be saved by the Ramblers keeper. The home side settled into it and tried to create some chances of their own chance but Aidan and Neil were well in control at the back aided by Cian and Trevor. 17 mins on the clock and the move of the game was to come, Shane played it from the goal to Cian at right back, passed it to Dylan in midfield, he found Kane on the right wing, he passed it to Conor towards the corner flag, Conor turned the full back played the ball back to Christopher who picked out Patrik in the box with an inch perfect pass, Patrik took 1 touch with his right foot swiveled and planted the ball in far corner of the net with his left past the helpless keeper. A Simply majestic finish. It was to be the difference between the teams at half time. H/T 0-1

Ben came on for Paul at half time and moved to left back and Cian moved to Midfield. The second half started with Ramblers throwing everything but the kitchen sink at us, you could see that this well organized side were not going to give up without a fight. In fact they were to dominate the next 10 mins with some serious pressure and got some shots off that really had us worried. Ramblers did equalize in the 12th min when 1 lapse in the back 4 let their striker through to power past Shane. 1-1 it was and anyone's game at this stage. Time to bring on the subs Sam, Leo, Tomas and Robbie to help steady the ship and bring some new ideas to the play. Their impact was immediate as we really picked our game up again with some forceful running from Leo, Tomas and Sam direct at the home defense. You could sense us getting another chance before end of the game as we really started to lift it. 55 mins on the clock and Sam picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch and ran at the Ramblers defense playing a lovely ball through to Tomas who rounded the keeper coolly but was unfortunate to loose his footing at the vital time but where a lesser player would stop and curse his bad luck, Tomas got back to his feet, passed it back to Cian who picked out Leo out wide. Leo wiped in a lovely cross to Patrik, who controlled it again with one touch and buried it past the home keeper. A super finish again from a super player. With 5 mins left on the clock, we kept the home side as far up the pitch as we could with our defense of Robbie Neil Aidan and Ben working the line up really well. Everyone working their socks off to hold onto the victory. The final whistle came to our delight and the 3 point were to be ours. Another tough game but a huge squad effort got us over the line. Well done to everyone today to.
F/T 1-2

Man of the match today was between our central defensive pairing of Neil and Aidan, both put in a massive performance in the defense today and Patrik who was absolutely fantastic out on the wing today, scoring 2 well taken goals but also tracking back helping his full back when needed. This week it goes to Patrik Kane, well done Patrik.

League away to Lakewood Athletic on Sunday 16th March 2014
Lakewood Athletic 2 Midleton 1

Lakewood took all three points in the U12 premier on Sunday afternoon at the Lakewood venue, thanks to the two goals late in the first half for the home side. The opening 15 minutes saw few chances for either side with the best chance falling to Conor Fitzgerald who snatched at a shot but Lakewood goalkeeper was well placed to make a save. Twenty minutes into the first half Midleton were on the attack when Patrik Kane on the wing managed to put a low cross where the Lakewood goalkeeper failed to hold the ball and for a rushing in Conor to make contact and put the ball into the back of the net. Five minutes before half time Lakewood equalised when one of the forwards broke through the Midleton defence and slotted the ball past the Midleton keeper. Heads dropped for a few minutes and the home side enjoyed some good possession and they soon to make it 2-1 with a well worked goal. First half score Lakewood 2 Midleton 1.

The second half was more the same with both sides looking bright in the opening minutes. Midleton began to settle and play better football, Andrew Kelly and Christopher O Connor who worked there socks off were replaced by Leo Hennessy and Kane Rowlands to help their Midleton team mates with an all out assault on the Lakewood net. Ben, Paul, Neil and Cian very solid in defence which allowed the Midleton midfield Dylan and Paul with Patrik and Leo on the wings to help the Midleton forwards Conor and Kane. Time running out and Patrik, Paul, Kane and Leo hitting every inch of the Lakewood goalpost and also with quick substitutions Trevor Shine and Sam Fashola coming on to help the cause, it just was not to be Midleton day. Final result Lakewood 2 Midleton 1. Man of the match today was between Conor, Paul and Cian. This week it goes to Paul Connaughton well done Paul. A special thanks to Helena Napier for all her help with the paperwork before the kick off.

Local Cup away to Kinsale on Sunday 9th March 2014
Kinsale 1 Midleton 5

We travelled to Kinsale this week to put our recent good form to the test against a team that play their football in division 3. The game started very evenly with both teams well up for this cup game and eager to progress to the next round. We had some early chances with Conor and Sam working hard up front to get on the end of crosses from Andrew, Leo and Patrik but unfortunate not to get the ball over the goal line. Kinsale played very well and broke through our defence after about 15 mins only for Trevor and Cian to recover well to put off the Kinsale as he struck towards goal and Shane dealt with those safe pair of hands. The defence of Ben, Robbie, Cian and Trevor stood firm after that for the rest of the half while our attack started to turn up the heat and it was to be on 20 mins that the deadlock would be broke as Leo and Neil combined down the left , Leo firing in a lovely cross and Sam meeting it perfectly. 1 nil and confidence growing after finally getting one past the home sides defence. We passed the ball well now and it was soon to be 2 nil as Neil  played Andrew through , he got his head up, crossed to Leo who laid it off beautifully for Conor to unleash a rasping shot from the edge of the box. The keeper could do nothing about it. A great team goal. H/T 2-0

The second half started well for us it and our boys sensed that the home team were tiring.  35 mins on the clock and Conor got on the end of a perfectly weighed pass from Patrik rounded kinsales right back and drove a low cross across the goal, Sam stepped over it and left it to the on rushing Leo who smashed it home.  Subs were made on 40mins with Tomas, Kane, Dylan and Christopher coming off the bench. Both teams continued to work hard but again it was to be our boys who were to score next , great work from Andrew to win the ball and then to release Conor who finished in style. Kinsale were to finally get a reward in the the 52nd min for their endless hard work albeit from a free kick that should never have been given, Ben wrongly adjudged to have fouled the Kinsle striker. Up stepped their player and he placed the ball high into Shane's net. Great finish, even a keeper of Shane's high ability was left stranded. We were to finish out the game well with Tomas playing the ball upto Christopher who turned his marker inside out before delivering a superb cross to the goal machine Conor who finished with his left this time to complete a fantastic hat trick on the 56th min. Great squad effort today lads, ye should be well proud. F/T 5-1

Man of the match this week was between Neil, tireless in Midfield  and great in defence when he switched. Andrew who was working his magic on the right wing, left wing and finally in the middle of the pitch. And Conor who was nearly on the end of every ball today, scoring 3 and unlucky on other occasions. The award this week goes to our Hat trick man, Conor Fitzgerald. Well done today Conor, you were simply unstoppable.

League at home to Leeds on Thursday 27th February 2014
Midleton 5 Leeds 1

Midletons first league game of 2014 finally kicked off after weeks of cancelled matches due to weather conditions. On Thursday night last we welcomed Leeds United to the Knockgriffen venue. With weather conditions far from ideal. The game got under way, Midleton started well with intent, with Leo and Kane working well on the wings. It was only a matter of time before forwards Patrik and Christopher found the net. Ten minutes later into the first half Kane found Patrik unmarked who took a great shot to put the ball in the back of the net. Five minutes later Christopher found the net after a defence splitting pass from Leo. Leeds United came  back fighting and after a breakdown in concetration from the Midleton defence Leeds United forwards managed to break through and put the ball into the net. To be fair, as they do or lads stepped it up, our defence led by Robbie, Neil, Ben and Aidean became rock solid, just before half time Leo found a brilliant pass from Patrik, who managed to shoot the ball past the keeper  H/T score Midleton 3 Leeds United 1

The second half was to start much the same as the first we were having a lot more clear cut chances keeping the Leeds United keeper extremely busy with Conor and Trever coming off the bench to help the cause. Paul, Dylan in midfield working well together and Dylan dropping back to help the defence when needed. Conor got his reward after finding a pass from Leo and neatly sloted the ball pass the keeper. Kane with great heart and a constant torn on the defence who saved the best for last with a great goal. Fifteen minutes into the second half Sam, Cian and Thomas were brought on and the result was never in doubt. A great win by Midleton under such horrific conditions. Man Of The Match was between Kane, Patrik and Paul but this week it goes to Kane for his skill and great work rate well done Kane

League at home to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 15th December 2013
Midleton 2 Ringmahon Rangers 3

Our last game before the Christmas was against the high flying Ringmahon rangers. We started this game very well playing some very good football with the majority of the possession. Paul and Sam testing both full backs in the early stages after Patrik had supllyed the with lovely through balls. As was the story of start of season so far we were not going have to have luck on our side. We defended well the attacks Ringamhon had, then in the 15th min of the game when a harmless enough looking  throw ball was taken one of the their attackers launched what can only be called a hoof of a ball high into the air towards the box, the ball landed some say with snow on it just under Shane's cross bar and into the net. Heads dropped a little for the a couple of mins and the visitors enjoyed some good possession and they were  soon to make it 2 nil with a well worked goal. We kicked into life again and gained a foot hold in midfield with Neil, Patrik and Cian moving the ball around well with Conor unlucky up front doing a lot of pressing up on their defence trying to force them into mistakes. We were awarded a free at the edge of the box in the 25th min, up stepped patrik who dispatched the ball to the top left corner of the net, a superb finish. We finished the half well but with no further reward. H/T score 1-2

The 2nd half started similar to the 1st with us doing well early on, Leo on as a half time sub unlucky with his attacks with Cian and Sam their in support. Knowing that we needed to score again, Ringamhon were trying to catch us on the breaks and so they did in the 40th min. Rather than give up, the home team dug deep and pushed on again with Aidan now pushing on from his right back slot playing like an extra winger. We were creating a lot of chances but couldn't get descent shots at goal. Shots were going just left and right of their post, penalty claims being waved away. We were to score again in the 55th min with the goal of the game, the ball played from Aidan at the back to Cian and Kane on the wing who released Neil through the middle, he took it in his stride and powered it past their keeper. Try as we did, we were not to get an equalizer. The game and the year were to end in defeat. We have not had much luck in 2013 so hopefully 2014 will be this team's year. Onwards and upwards. F/T score 2-3

Man of the match this week was between Aidan, who is becoming a regular in the back four, solid out for this whole game and almost getting on the score sheet too. Sam who made a lot of excellent runs and link up very well today. Patrik who scored a cracker of a free kick and had an all-round good game. This week it goes to Aidan Slye. Well done Aidan, great game.

League at home to St Mary's on Sunday 24th November 2013
Midleton 1 St Mary's 1

On Sunday last we welcomed St Mary's fc to the Knockgriffin venue. This was Midleton at there best, a display of such slick powerful and beautiful football. It is absolutely dumbfounding this team has lost four times already  this season. Midleton started off well with Shane on top form between he posts, the defence Aidan, Neil, Robbie and Ben also very solid. Twenty minutes in to the first half Midleton defence were working well to clear the ball when it appeared that a St. Mary's forward was brought down inside the box and  were awarded with a penalty. Midleton goalkeeper Shane done his best but it was to be one up to St. Mary's. Midleton reacted well with Patrik and Paul in midfield, Andrew and Kane on the wings and Tomas and Christopher continued to press forward to even the score line before half time. Two minutes before half time a free taken by Patrik that found Christopher in the box who powered the ball into the back of the net, half time  score 1-1.

Second half and Midleton started with intent, with Cian and Trever coming off the bench to help with an all out attack on the St. Mary's goals. Midfield were working well with the forwards with a lot of slick passing, Midleton were unlucky not to score with so many chances being cleared off the line. With twelve minutes to go Sam was introduced and was a constant thorn in the St. Mary's defence. With time running out Sam was  controversially brought down inside the box but unfortunately no penalty was awarded, full time score 1-1. A terrific all around performance and definitely the best display from this squad to date. A difficult man of the match decision. With Aidan,Andrew and Neil playing very well but man of the match is awarded to Neil for is positive tackling and determination. Well done Neil. A special thanks to Donnie Treacy, Micheal Napier and my assistant Matthew O' Connor who all helped out on the day.

League away to Leeds on Sunday 17th November 2013
Douglas Hall 2 Midleton 1

This week's game was in the league away to Douglas Hall. We were hoping to build on our recent good league results. The opening half was a very open game with our best attacks coming down the left wings with Paul, Ben and Conor linking well but unfortunate not to get good clean shots at the home team's goal. Our defence, Ben, Daniel, Neil and Trevor dealt with the Douglas attacks in the first excellently with the help of Patrik and Dylan from midfield. Anything that did get beyond the defence was controlled by the steady as always Shane. H/T Score 0-0

The second half started in the hope that we could use the slope down the pitch to our advantage but I didn't seem to suit us as it was to be Douglas who was to take the lead with a scrappy goal conceded early in the half. To be fair, as they always do our lads stepped it up and pressed for an equalizer with some good play from Dylan, Leo and Chris. We got a reward for our efforts as good play from Chris in the box resulted in him being brought to the ground by their keeper, Penalty given. The pressure was on Patrik to score from the spot, he stepped up hit a great shot to the corner of the goal and despite the best effort of the Douglas keeper we were back in the game. Cian and Aidan came off the bench and made an instant impact but try as we did we just didn't get much luck. The home team were very organized at the back and kept us at distance from their goal very well. Douglas attacked with about 10 mins to go and hit a great shot towards Shane's far post; it struck the post and came across the goal and into Shane's hands. Bizarrely the referee who was having very good game awarded a goal much to the shock of most of the onlookers , it was just that bit of luck that was to be difference between the 2 teams today as we found it hard to create any really chance of note before the game ended. F/T Score 2-1

Man of the match this week was between Ben Napier who had a very solid game at the back all through this game, Dylan O Halloran who helped out his defence today as well as trying to make things happen in attack and Daniel Cagney who on his first half performance could have stole the award this week but this weeks man of the match goes to Dylan. Well done Dylan.

League away to Leeds on Sunday 3rd November 2013
Leeds 1 Midleton 3

Away game to Leeds in the league this week and we were in search of another 3 points to continue our recent good league form. We started this game like a team that meant business with some great early play. We were well in control of this game with an odd rear attack from Leeds breaking our 1st half dominance. But despite our dominance it was to be Leeds who were to take the lead against the run of play with a good finish past Shane in the 20th min. Where a lesser team may feel deflated after putting so much in and cruelly going a goal down, this team of ours just digs in deeper. Our defence became rock solid for the remainder of this game. Our midfield 4 were magnificent in this game with Paul and Leo creating havoc down the wings. We were to finally get our reward for all our effort late in the 1st half when good play from Paul and Patrik in the corner and a dangerous ball in the box from Patrik had Leo coming in from his wing to control the ball swivelled and neatly finished past the keeper. We were deservedly back level. The first half was to end 1-1.

The second half was to start much the same as the first but we were have a lot more clear cut chances keeping the Leeds keeper extremely busy. Dylan was in total control in the midfield dealing with every ball being sent out by the home team and with Patrik feeding Paul and Leo with some superb passes. 10 mins into the second half  and we were to take the lead , a great cross into the box by Paul met by Leo. The keeper saved it but Christopher was on hand to tuck home the rebound. Once we got the  lead we looked very comfortable and Leo tormented the defence again and again. Good work down the right by Aidan and perfect pass released Leo again who slipped Paul through who finished in style for the best goal of the  game. Full time score 1-3.

Match of the match this week was between Dylan who was steady out through the whole game in keeping Leeds chances to a minimum, Paul who created a lot of chances as well as been on the scoresheet and Leo who was a constant torment to the Leeds defence today. The award this week goes to Leo who had his finest game since returning from injury. Well done Leo

National Cup at home to Douglas Hall on Sunday 20th October 2013
Midleton 0
Douglas Hall 1
Douglas Hall this week at home in the 2nd round of the National cup. We always have very tight games against Douglas and this was to be no different. The first half started with both defences on top with no real clear chances for either. Douglas started the slightly better team but the first opportunity was to come our with a run down the right wing by Kane who released Chris toward the corner flag, he turned his man put in great cross but unfortuately Conor's shot just cleared the crossbar. The next chance to come was an attack down the right by Douglas but Ben dealt with it as cooly as always clearing out for a corner. From the resulting corner , Douglas put the ball in high to the box, Shane came to deal with but it was come loose from his grip goal bound with only Trevor between the ball and the goal. The only way to keep it out was to handle it, penalty to the visitors. They scored from the spot dispite Shane's great effort to keep it out. Douglas were soon to have another chance to make it 2 nil but a great save from Shane and follow up clearance from Trevor kept them out. We were to have the final chance of the first half with a lovely ball to the wing from midfield magician that is Patrik to Kane who beat the defender and crossed to Chris who's shot was saved on this occassion.
H/T Score 0-1

The half time consisted of jellies this week and quick gathering of thoughts as we were well in this game and could easily turn it around. We started this half better and pushed hard to get the equiliser, Patrik was to release Leo, Kane, Conor and Paul on different occassions but none of them leading to goal we so desperately needed. Our defence was rock solid in this half with Trevor, Neil, Robbie and Ben ensuring that were not to concede again. The only thing was that Douglas were also very strong at the back. The game was to end with just 1 goal in it and our National cup adventure was cut short for this year. We wished Douglas well for the next round.F/T score 0-1

Man of the match this week was a tough one with all the players trying hard and no one letting the team down. We have narrowed it down to Robbi , who was great at the back all day. Conor who covered a lot of ground and made endless runs. Patrik, who grew into this game and pulled the strings for us in the middle of the pitch. This week it goes to Patrik, Well done Patrik. A great effort today.

League away to Rockmount on Sunday 13th October 2013
Rockmount 2 Midleton 2

This week an away game to Rockmount in the league in the search for 3 more precious points and this game was to start very well for us as Chris, Kane, Trevor and Leo linked extremely well done the right creating some early chances for us. It was not long before we were to take the lead a great cross field pass from Daniel and Kane controlled it with ease and finished it in style. But unfortunately rather kicking on it was to be Rockmount  who  took control of the next 20 mins and they were to score 2 very similar goals within that period to give them the lead. We made a couple of breaks late in the half from some strong running from Leo and Kane in particular but couldn't break them down again. H/T score 2-1

Time for water, Jaffa cakes and team talk. Don't know weather it was the water, Jaffa's or the team talk but it was a different team who took the field for the second half with Midleton on top right from the start. Our 2 half time subs Conor and Patrik  helping to give us  a new energy. We attacked down the left and right through Kane, Conor and Leo time after time with Patrik now pulling the strings in midfield like a magician. Our defence line was on top form in this half and kept Shane from having a save to make in this half. Daniel was to have his best game so far this season he made his way up and delivered a superb ball into the box with the goal machine Chris on the end of it and made it 4 games on the trot that he has now scored in. But dispite our best efforts from then until the end of the game we could not beat the home keeper again. We had waves of  attacks from Kane, Chris, Conor and Leo but couldn't  make one count. We had to settle for a point. F/T score 2-2

Man of the match award today was between Leo Hennessy just back from injury and playing his heart out unlucky not to score today, Kane Rowlands whos wing play was a pleasure to watch and scored a great goal and Daniel Cagney who grew into this game and showed he's back to his best. The award this week goes to Kane who gave an all-round great display. Well done Kane, great game.

League at home to Springfield Ramblers on Sunday 6th October 2013
Midleton 2 Springfield Ramblers 1

Back to the league this week with a game against Springfield Ramblers with both teams still searching for their first win of the season. We were hoping to build on the great victory with had in the National cup last week. Both teams started this game looking very nervous and it wasn't helped by a lot of stoppages in play. We were strong at the back but couldn't get into a rythem going forward. We had some good attacks from Cian, Patrik, Conor and Paul but couldn't find the target unfortunately. Ramblers had a couple of shots in this half but Shane dealt with them well. H/T 0-0

We made 2 changes at half time bringing on Kane and Andrew which helped change our fortune as we started the second half really well attcking with more urgency. We were soon to get the lead as Chris was to get on the end of a lovely through ball and finished it superbly past the Ramblers keeper. We instantly grew in confidence after the goal and started passing the ball around. Sam and Aidan come on as subs and helped us with fresh legs. It was to be Sam who would score next against his old team mates to break their hearts. A tidy finish after a cross into the box from Kane. We were not to finish the game the stongest as Sprinfield were to press us for the remainder of the game and pulled a goal back with 5 mins to go. They really came to life after the goal and worked us really hard for the rest of the match. Ben in particular dealt well with their late pressure. Finally the full time whistle came, the 3 points were ours. A great second half. Well done lads.

Man of the match today was between Ben , who had a solid game at the back, Sam who came on and scored against his former team mates and Chris who got on the score sheet again today. The award this week goes to Christopher O Connor who continues his hot streak in front of goal and for his overall movement today was superb. Well done Chris.

National Cup away to Leeds on Sunday 29th September 2013
Leeds 1 Midleton 3

Our first cup game of the season was a national cup game away to Leeds. This was going to be another tough game against another team from premier division. The game started very open with both teams having some good opportunities but to be denied good goalkeeping at both ends. We had some great wide play from Kane and Aidan. Leeds took the lead late in the first half when Shane came out  to deal with a through ball but the Leeds striker got to ball first and lobbed Shane leaving him stranded. A great finish. H/T 1-0

The second half was to begin such much better for the magpies with us really getting the link up play going. The introduction of Patrik and Cian having the desired effect. A great powerful run from Christopher was to win us an early second half penalty. Patrik stepped up to take  but was unlucky as the keeper made a great save. We kept the pressure on and pushed and pushed , we finally got our reward as Christopher got on the end of a corner. 1-1 it was  to end despite some late efforts from both sides. Extra time was ahead. 10 mins a side

We were to start the first period of extra very well , growing in confidence and make some great runs down the wings through Kane and Paul. Conor  linked up with Kane well and rounded 2 and unleashed an unstoppable shot in to the top corner of the net. The best goal of the game.  We were leading 2-1. The defence were doing superbly well all day and kept Leeds out as they tried to come back at us again. Extra time H/t 1-2

We began the final 10 mins like a team who was hungry for our first win of the season. Sam was introduced as a sub in this half and he was to put the icing on the cake as he scored what was to be the final goal of the game. A great finish. A fantastic game today lads, every single one the 14 players worked their socks off. Hopefully this is only the start of our season as we move on even greater days. Man of the match was a very tough call but for his determination and effort right through this game today it goes to Trevor Shine. Well done Trevor.

League away to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 22nd September 2013
Ringmahon Rangers 2 Midleton 1

We played against Ringmahon last Sunday in a game that pitted us against the toppers but this was to be our game of the season so far. We started really well and were unlucky with chances from distance from Paul and then Dylan. Ringmahon grew into the game and also had chances one which was destined for Shane's far corner only for Shane to make a wonderful save tipping it around the post for a corner which we cleared out. We were to end the half well with chances for Conor and Christopher both unfortunate to find the net. Our defence was playing really well and kept their chances to a minamum. H/T score 0-0

The second half started with Ringmahon having the better of the play but it was us who were about to take the lead. The ball was played up to Conor who was forced wide but was taken down for a free at the edge of the box. Dylan put in the ball and it as met by a perfect header by Christopher. This spurred on the home team into action, they started to put us put us under a lot of pressure. They put in a great ball into our box and they made 1-1. They now poured forward searching for a winner. We were tiring fast as we defended to hold out for a well earned point but it wasn't to be as the pressure finally got to us with just 2 mins left on the clock. That was the way it was to end. So close today , big improvement again against a top team. Well done lads. F/T 2-1.

Man of the match today was Ben Napier, had a great game today and was missed when he left the field. Well done Ben

League at home to Carrigaline United on Sunday 15th September 2013
Midleton 1 Carrigaline United 2

Last Sunday was our first home game of the season and it was yet another tough game ahead of us. The game started quite even with attacks come from both sides with our good play coming down the wings through Kane and Leo. We were defending well at the back aswell until carrigaline had a snap shot from the edge of the box late in the first half which almost caught Shane be surprise but he got across the goal well but unfortunately his great save was in vain as their striker was on hand to finish. H/T 0-1

The 2nd half started with carrigaline having the better of the play and soon they were to score their second goal of the game. This was to kick the home team into life and our players started asking the carrigaline defence some questions with some great link up play between Conor, Patrik, Christopher and Leo. We finally created our best chance of the game when a great run down the right wing from Leo beat his man and put the ball in the box , Christopher volleyed it to the back of Carrig net with style. We pressed for the remaining 10 mins but we were not to get the equalizer that we were looking for.

This game was an overall improvement on our last outing but we still need to improve to get the points on the board. Final score 1-2 with the man of the match today between Leo, Neil and Christopher.  For the great finish on his goal today , the award goes to Christopher O Connor. Well done Chris, plenty more goals to come

League away to Corinthian Boys on Wednesday 11th September 2013
Corinthian Boys 2 Midleton 0

The first ever competitive game for this team was a tough task away to Corinthians. We started our competitive era with a nervy start and never really got going early on. We were defending well with Robbie and Neil clearing a lot of ball but couldn't get a rhythm going against a strong Corinthian's team. We were taking a lot of pressure and it finally caught up with us when a corner came in and was only half cleared to the edge of the box and a thunderbolt of a shot came Shane\'s way, despite his best efforts he was just beaten. The half time whistle came as we were just getting a bit of confidence going. H/T score 1-0.

The second half started much more positively. You could see once we started passing the ball around that we had the oposition worried. Helped by our subs who injected new ideas to our play and the chances started to come to our strikers Chris and Conor who were unlucky with their efforts. The biggest moment of the match for us came after Patrik won a free, Dylan put a great cross in to the box to by met by a powerful header from Chris that hit the back of the net but as we began to celebrate, the referee called for off side. Our supporters were convinced it was a bad decision. As we pushed to try and get an equalizer we were getting stretched at the back but  some superb goalkeeping from Shane kept it at 1-0. The more we pressed up the pitch, the more open we became at the back and we were to concede a second goal before the game ended.

It was just not to be our night but some excellent performances all round and a great second half display against an excellent team. It gives us something to look forward to in our next game. Tonight's man of the match award goes to Shane O'Shea for some fantastic goalkeeping. Well done Shane
