Under 13 2012/13 Premier Division Match Reports

League at home to Mallow United on Saturday 4th May 2013
Midleton 2 Mallow United 2

Last home league game of the season was a solid performance by the lads. This was a game where we got into an early lead had chances to go two up but suddenly early in the second half two quick goals in a minute put Mallow clear. The rest of the second half we played well creating many chances and gaining a great equaliser from Dale Holland from an Alan Horgan cross. We were unlucky not to grab the winner from the last kick of the game. Last game of the season will be away to Leeds.

League away to Lakewood Athletic on Saturday 23rd February 2013
Lakewood Athletic 1 Midleton 3

Great away win by Midleton in picking up three valuable points  in league game against Lakewood. All three goals game in opening twenty minutes with our first goal coming from some great passing movement and a thunderous shot from Charlie from twenty yards. Second goal came from a corner with a defenders deflection finding the top corner. Our third goal came from a long kick from defence and Conor getting position and having a run on goal and slotted the ball into the left corner.

Second half , we created many chances but did not add to our first half haul. Overall a good team performance today and lads delighted with the points as the league table shows there are points to fight for over the next few weeks.

Local Cup at home to Blarney United on Saturday 16th February 2013
Midleton 4
Blarney United 0
Midleton welcomed Blarney to Knockgriffin for Midleton's first game in the Local Cup. Midleton played some great football on what was a tough pitch and well deserved their win with two goals in either half. Tommy O'Brien scored after 4 mins and Charlie Whalley doubled the score on 20 mins in. Midleton lead 2-0 at HT.

Cian Murray scored the third on 10 mins in to the second half and Midleton wrapped up the game 5 mins from time from the penalty spot through Joe Stack.

League away to Douglas Hall on Sunday 3rd February 2013
Douglas Hall 1 Midleton 0

Tight match against  great rivals Douglas Hall, game could have gone either way. Goal scoring chances were scarce over the 60 minutes with both goalkeepers seeing little of the ball. Douglas Hall got their lead early in the first half with a high ball in the Midleton box that wasn't cleared and fell to the oncoming forward. Midleton's best chance came in the second half with a low free kick from Joe Stack which Dale nearly connected with a glancing header and the ball sail passed the far post. Our defence was solid during he game  with Shane getting many tackles in at the half. Conor had some surging runs at the Douglas defence with the ball in both halfs. Lads all look forward to their next game against Douglas.

League at home to Ringmahon Rangers on Saturday 5th January 2013
Midleton 2 Ringmahon Rangers 1

First game on 2013 went Midleton's way. Game started well for the lads with some half chances coming their way in the first 10 minutes through Daniel, Conor and Charlie. Breakthrough came midway through the half with through ball down the right wing latched onto by Conor who beat two players and played the perfect pass to Dale, who let fly a shot from outside he box and rattled the back of the net. Just before half time Daniel went close with a shot that drifted to the left of the goal frame.

Five minutes into second half Ringmahon pulled one back. Midleton spent the rest of the half chasing the winner with Tommy, Daniel and Charlie going close, winner came from a through ball from Tommy to Charlie who placed it into the corner of the goal and capped a great performance today by getting the winner. The lads nearly got a third in the last few minutes. Over all a good performance and all happy with three points.

League at home to Carrigaline United on Saturday 8th December 2012
Midleton 0 Carrigaline United 0

Midleton were at home to a very strong Carrigaline side in this Premier league clash and turned in their best performance of the season with a well earned draw. The first half was a very cagey affair with no clear cut chances for either side although Charlie Whalley almost got onto the end of cross towards the end of the half.

The second half was more open which wasn't surprising considering the effort and commitment from both sides. In the final ten minutes Midleton were applying most of the pressure with Joe Stack going close with a header from a free kick. The Carrigaline keeper was in excellent form so all in all a draw was a fair result.
It would be unfair to single out any particular player on the Midleton side as this was a great team performance. They can now look forward to the rest of the season with renewed confidence.

League away to Mallow United on Saturday 3rd November 2012
Mallow United 3 Midleton 1

A game the lads should have got something from, created lots of chances and were extremely unlucky not to be in the lead at half time. Malllow got the lead on the stroke of half time.
Early in second half brought it back to one all, and should have added another two through Joe and Daniel. Mallow came into the game in the final 15 minutes and got the the breakthroughs that won the match.

League at home to Lakewood Athletic on Saturday 27th October 2012
Midleton 3 Lakewood Athletic 0

Midleton took on Lakewood in Knockgriffin in what were perfect playing conditions. Both teams have been struggling of late and a win for either side would be a great confidence lift. So it was no wonder that the first half of the game was a scrappy affair with Midleton looking much the better side but could not get there passing game going.

The second half started and it soon looked like there was only one team going to win. Midleton were in total control of the game. Tommy O'Connell and Joe stack were now running midfield, with Conor O'Leary & Daniel McGauran causing Lakewood all sorts of problems upfront. Cian Murray had a brilliant game at centre back with Alan Horgan, David Ryan & Tommy O'Brien all playing well. It was only a matter of time before the first goal came and on 41 mins Midleton made the break through. Daniel McGauran found the back of the net after some great build up play. Midleton continued to keep the pressure on Lakewood and the second goal was not long in coming. Dale Holland made a great run on 50 mins into the box when a perfectly timed pass came over from Charlie Whalley & Dale finished it to the back of the net. Dale scored again on 54 mins with a fine header after a great delivery from Daniel McGauran. Midleton were solid and showed great fight and believe in themselves today. Roll on Mallow away next week

National Cup away to Ballybridge on Saturday 20th October 2012
Ballybridge 2 Midleton 1

Midleton U13 went to play an East Cork derby match against Ballybridge in the National Cup on Sat 20th October. Pitch was tight and Ballybridge started quick with a pacey forward playing upfront and troubled the Midleton defence early in the half. Midleton settled and created a few chances from distance or from corners but found it difficult to break down the Ballybridge defence. Just before half time Ballybridge got the lead on a breakaway attack.

Midleton came out fighting in the second half and threw everything at Ballybridge, got the equaliser through Dale Holland and looked like they would go on a captured the tie. Again another breakout by BB caught Midleton and a free was conceded just outside the box, 2 one from the direct kick. The last 15 minutes was all Midleton but the equaliser never came, on other days two or three of the chances would have gone in and the Ballybridge keeper also played his part with some good saves in the closing stages.
Not to be this year, roll on next match.

League away to Greenwood on Saturday 13th October 2012
Greenwood 1 Midleton 4

Midleton were away to Greenwood in this premier league clash and started the game well creating three chances in the first ten minutes. The break through came after 15 minutes when Dale Holland played a lovely ball through and Charlie Whalley burst into the box to finish well. Just before half time Midleton were caught on the break when Greenwood equalised with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

Midleton started the second half well with Tommy O'Connell, Daniel McGauran and Joe Stack taking control of midfield. The pressure paid off when Conor O'Leary scored from a tight angle after some great build up play. With ten minutes remaining Conor scored his second when he was put through by Shane O'Riordan. Within a few minutes he completed his hat-trick when Tommy O'Brien flicked on a great pass and Conor finished with a powerful shot. Greenwood didn't threaten the Midleton goal in the second half as the defence of Alan Horgan, Cian Murray, Sean Morrissey and Mark Daly dealt well with any attacks.
A good performance from the Midleton lads and they can now look forward to the National Cup next week.

League at home to Douglas Hall on Saturday 6th October 2012
Midleton 0 Douglas Hall 3

Tough day at the office for Midleton u13 this weekend against city rivals Douglas Hall who we have had some great games with over the past few years. Douglas struck early in the first half with a ball over the top that their pacey winger latched on to. Midleton settled after that and had much of the play for the next 15 minutes with Joe and Tommy pushing on but got no breakthrough. The Hall then struck twice in two minutes and going into half time Midleton had a mountain to climb in the second half. The lads battled hard in the second half but Douglas closed out the game and there was few chances for either side to pounce on. Let us now take on the next few matches and get points on the table.

National Cup at home to Douglas Hall A on Saturday 29th September 2012
Midleton 7 Douglas Hall A 0

Midleton were at home to Douglas Hall in this 2nd roud tie of the National Cup. From the start Midleton applied all the pressure but it took them 20 minutes to break down a well organised Douglas side. Conor O'Leary opened the scoring firing in from a tight angle after some good build up play down the left. Five minutes later Joe Stack made it 2 with a neat finish inside the box.

Early in the second half Dale Holland made it 3 when he finished well from close range and soon after scored his second when he wrong footed the Douglas keeper. Within a few minutes Charlie Whalley made it 5 when he cut in from the right and hit a great shot into the bottom corner. Joe Stack then scored the goal of the match when he curled a lovely shot into the top right corner. Just before the end Dale Holland capped a fine display when he finished easily to complete his hatrick.
This was a great performance from every Midleton player and they can now look forward to the third round.

League away to Ringmahon Rangers on Saturday 22nd September 2012
Ringmahon Rangers 4 Midleton 1

Midleton got off to a good start and applied alot of early pressure with Dale Holland forcing a good save from the Ringmahon keeper after 5 minutes. After 15 minutes Ringmahon took the lead with a shot from the edge of the box which flew into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance. The remainder of the half was evenly matched with no clear cut chances for either side.

Ringmahon had most of the play early in the second half and made it pay after 10 minutes with a long range effort to make it 2. Midleton stormed back into the game with Tommy O'Connell driving the team forward. It paid off after 15 minutes when Dale Holland finished well inside the box. Midleton pushed more players forward in search of the equaliser but were caught on the break with two late goals in the last 5 minutes. The Midleton lads can be proud of themselves as they never gave up until the final whistle.

League at home to Leeds on Saturday 15th September 2012
Midleton 2 Leeds 3

Midleton U13 welcomed Leeds AFC to Knockgriffin for first home game of the season. It was a game of two halves with the home team quite dominant in the first half with Dale Holland having a stormer on the wing and getting the opener with a piledriver to the right of the Leeds keeper. Midleton also hit the net on two other occasions only to be deemed offside and some half chances also fell to Conor O'Leary and Tommy O'Connell.

Second half was a different story with Leeds grapping an early equaliser after halftime. Shortly after, they caught us over the top and grabbed the lead. Midleton upped the ante and pushed on in the last 15 minutes and got what look like the equaliser through a fabulous crafted quick free kick by Tommy and Dale - two all and looked like points shared. We did get a chance in injury time to push on for a winner but did not happen and Leeds broke down the field and got the winner with the last kick of the game. Good performances today from Tommy O'Brien at right back who has an eye for the cutting pass and Dale on the wing. Roll on the next game.

League away to Carrigaline United on Saturday 8th September 2012
Carrigaline United 2 Midleton 0

Midleton faced a tough assignment away to last season's Premier league winners Carrigaline in their first game. Carrigaline started well and put Midleton under some early pressure but without creating any clear cut chances. After 15 minutes Carrigaline broke down the wing and their player cut inside and sent a blistering shot past the keeper. For the last ten minutes of the half Midleton really came into the game and put the hosts under some real pressure. They forced three corners in a row with Charlie Whalley almost scoring the equaliser from one.
The second half was fairly even but Carriagline scored their second with ten minutes left and there was no way back for Midleton. Although the game ended in defeat the Midleton players can be really proud of themselves especially Joe Stack and Dale Holland who were excellent on the day.
