Under 14 2013/14 Premier Division Match Reports

League at home to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 18th May 2014
Midleton 3
Ringmahon Rangers 2
Midleton were at home to Ringmahon in this premier league clash which turned out to be a very open game with plenty of chances for both sides. Midleton started the better and created some good openings with Tommy O'Connell and Alan Horgan going close with shots from distance. However it was Ringmahon who took the lead when a long range effort took a deflection and flew into the top corner leaving the keeper with no chance. Within 5 minutes Midleton equalised with a lovely chip inside the box from Conor O'leary which found the top corner.

The second half was end to end but it was Midleton who took the lead when Alan Hogan cut in from the right and buried the ball low into the corner of the net. Midleton were well on top at this stage and extended their lead when Conor got his second from close range. Ringmahon came back into the game in the last ten minutes and pulled a consolation goal back with a few minutes left. Midleton held on with some excellent defending from Cian, Daniel, Kevin & Joe to finish deserved winners.

Local Cup away to Leeds on Wednesday 30th April 2014
Leeds 0 Midleton 3

All roads from Midleton now lead to Turners Cross next Tuesday night after the U14 fantastic victory against Leeds last night in the local cup semi final. This was agame that the lads were up for and this showed from the kick off when we put down a marker from early play in keeping possession and attacking down the flanks. The first goal came after 5 minutes with a great through ball by Tommy which Dale ran onto and slotted passed the oncoming keeper. The rest of the first half was mostly Midleton holding the ball and creating some half chances with Matt call into action on a few high balls into the box where he dealt with.

Leeds started the second half brightly and created a few chances from set pieces and corners but Midleton defence twarted these attacks with our defence remaining solid and Joe getting his head behind all the high balls coming in. Chances started to fall to Midleton midway in the second half with Tommy unlucky with a chip that went over the bar and alan hogan going close on a few occasions. The second goal came soon after with Conor O'Leary dispatching a low shot into the corner of the net. Leeds up the tempo after that goal and went close with a shot from their striker which hit the post. Midleton subs came on and in the last few minutes Charlie W went on a lazy run and twisted and moved with the Leeds defender and finally got his shot off which sneaked into the corner of the net.

Final whistle soon came and Midleton were in the final, no one MOM tonight, every player was MOM as this was one of the best performances from this Midleton team over the last few years. Congrats to the Midleton U12 team who also reached the local cup final and both teams look forward to the night in the Cross next week when we both will be up against College C and Lakewood.

Local Cup away to Rockmount on Sunday 27th April 2014
Rockmount 2 Midleton 3

Midleton were away to Rockmount in the Quarter Finals of the Cup and came away with a well deserved win. This was always going to a tough game as Rockmount are riding high in Division 1 with premier status secured for next season. Midleton started well and created a couple of chances but it was Rockmount who scored first with a well taken goal on the break. The goal seemed to unsettle Midleton and when they failed to clear a ball in defence Rockmount pounced the score their second. To their credit Midleton didn't panic and when they won a corner with 5 minutes of the half left Alan Horgan sent a great ball over which was flicked on by Daniel McGauran and Alan Hogan stole in on the back post to score.

Midleton's midfield started to get on top early in the 2nd half with Conor O'Leary and Charlie Whalley going close. Eventually the equaliser came when Richard Philips played a great ball to Alan Hogan who finished with a lovely left foot shot. Midleton were playing great stuff now and with only a few minutes left the ball was played back to Tommy O'Connell who hit a thunder bolt which flew into the top corner to win the game. A brilliant performance from all the Midleton team but MOM went to Shane O'Riordan for a great display from start to finish. Midleton are now away to Leeds in the Semi Final on 30th April.

League away to Everton on Sunday 16th March 2014
Everton 2 Midleton 4

Midleton were away to Everton in this league clash which had already been postponed twice due to the bad weather. Midleton got the opening goal in the first 5 minutes when a great pass from Dale Holland found Alan Hogan who finished well with a neat lob over the keeper. The Midleton midfield started taking control of the game with Conor O'Leary driving the team forward and it was no surprise when they got the second with another great finish from Alan Hogan. Another great pass put Tommy O'Connell through on goal but just as he was about to shoot he was pushed from behind and the ref. pointed to the spot. Dale cooly slotted home the penalty to make it 3 nil. Just before half time Everton pulled one back from a corner.

The second half was a much more even affair as Everton came into the game but the Midleton defence held firm with Sean Morrissey and Cian Murray having excellent games. The fourth goal eventually came when Shane O'Riordan cut in from the right and finished well from a tight angle. Everton scored a second in the final minutes with a powerful shot from long range which gave the keeper no chance.

League away to Carrigaline United on Sunday 3rd March 2014
Carrigaline United 4 Midleton 1

First competitive game since 5th December was not a good day for Midleton U14 going down to rivals Carrigaline. First half was fairly even with a nil nil score with limited chances on both sides. Carrig began the second half with a bang and quickly went into a 2 nil lead and Midleton were now chasing the game. Midelton got a late goal that was well taken by Tommy O'Connell. Team look, forward to the next few games and hopefully the worst of the weather is behind us.

League at home to Corinthian Boys on Sunday 8th December 2013
Midleton 2 Corinthian Boys 2

Midleton were at home to Corinthians in this top of the table premier clash. The first 20 minutes were very cagey with no clear cut chance for either side as both defences were on top form. Ten minutes before half time Tommy O'Connell sent a great ball through the centre and Alan Hogan rounded the keeper to score a great goal. However Midleton couldn't maintain their lead for long and shortly after Corinthians leveled from a free kick.

Midleton started the second half really well and Tommy went really close when he hit the bar from a difficult angle. Midleton continued to press but were caught on the counter attack when Corinthians took the lead with a shot from distance. Foe the last 15 minutes it was end to end stuff and it looked like Midleton would come up short but with only a few minutes remaining they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Alan Horgan blasted the ball into the roof of the net to earn a well deserved draw. All in all it was an excellent match played in a very sporting manner by two top class footballing sides. MOM for Midleton went to Shane O'Riordan who worked really hard for the full 70 minutes.

National Cup away to Leeds on Sunday 1st December 2013
Leeds 4 Midleton 1

Last Cork round of National cup for Midleton against Leeds. Wasn't to be for Midleton this year even though team are playing very well. Leeds took the game to Midleton and we're well worth their victory. We battled hard but 3-1 down going into the second half was a tough ask today. We went close a few times in the second half through Joe, Conor and Dale. We wish Leeds the best of luck representing Cork in the last 32.

League away to Mallow United on Sunday 24th November 2013
Mallow United 3 Midleton 5

Midleton were away to Mallow in this premier league clash and a win was vital to maintain their league challenge. Midleton were on top for the first 20 minutes and had three good scoring chances, the closest of which was when Dale Holland hit the bar from 20 yards out. The fist goal eventually came shorty after when Alan Hogan finished from close range.

The first 15 minutes of the 2nd half were a complete reversal with Mallow dominating and scoring 3 goals in quick succession. To their credit Midleton bounced back and took control of the game with Dale pulling one back with a great shot from the edge of the box. Two minutes later Tommy O\'Connell broke in from the right and finished in the far corner to level things up. Midleton were totally on top now and with 5 minutes to go Alan Hogan twisted and turned in the box and scored from close range. In the final minute Tommy finished from 6 yards out following a great passing move. MOM went to Joe Stack for a great display in goal.
Next game up is the 4th round of the National Cup away to Leeds which promises to be a cracker.

League at home to Carrigaline United on Sunday 17th November 2013
Midleton 2 Carrigaline United 2

This was a fixture that Midleton we're looking forward and the game was a great battle with both sides enjoying good spells of play during the 70 minutes. First strike was to Carraigaline who struck with an early penalty. Midleton opened up shortly afterwards and  created a few half chances from corners and open play. Midleton opening goal came from good play from Shane in winning position and finding Alan h in space who had a one on one with the keeper. Carraigaline grabbed the lead just before half time with a free into the box which was headed goal bound, Midleton started the second half  witt a lot of effort and Conor got a well deserved equaliser when he skipped past two defenders.

Midleton were unlucky not to get the lead from a shot from Dale. The lads had a few chances in the last few minutes when Alan and Oscar went close with a shot and header. Final whistle brought  the end of a.very entertaining match which was enjoyed by the crowd. Mom for Midleton today went to Conor O'Leary today who gave a great display in midfield and capped it with a well taken goal.

National Cup away to Lakewood Atheltic on Sunday 27th October 2013
Lakewood Atheltic 2 Midleton 5

Midleton were away to Lakewood in the 3rd round of the National Cup in terrible conditions with rain pouring down for the full 70 minutes. Lakewood started the better and put Midleton under considerable pressure but two great saves from Daniel McGauran kept the game scoreless. Ten minutes before the break Alan Hogan broke the off side trap and hit a powerful shot which was well saved but Alan reacted quickly and fired the ball into the net.

Lakewood again started the 2nd half well and scored within five minutes to level things up. This seemed to wake Midleton up and at last got their passing game going on a difficult surface. Another goal from Alan and two from Dale Holland put Midleton 4-1 up making the game safe. Midleton left the best goal to last with a brilliant move the full length of the pitch involving Sean, Tommy, Cian and Shane. The ball was crossed to Dale who scored to complete a great hatrick. Lakewood scored a late consolation goal from the penalty spot. MOM went to Daniel for keeping Midleton in the game in the fist half. Midleton will now face Leeds in the 4th round.

League at home to Everton on Sunday 3rd November 2013
Midleton 3 Everton
1
Well deserved three points to Midleton U14 this weekend with a a three one win versus Everton. We created many chances in the first half through Dale, Shane  and Alan Hogan but it was Dale that got the opening goal. Unlucky not to get a penalty with Matt going down on the edge of the box.

Second half started quite fast with a few early half chances, second goal came from Alan Hogan, then we had a nervy few minutes when Everton pulled a goal back. We made a few changes with Michal P and Charlie coming on for Dale and Sean M. Third Midleton goal came from a penalty after Shane was pulled down and was slotted home by a cool Alan Horgan. Sully was next sub to come on and went close with a shot from 30 yards. Brendan J and Richard P from the u13 got on for the closing minutes. Next day trip to Lakewood for the national cup.

League away to Douglas Hall on Sunday 27th October 2013
Douglas Hall 1 Midleton 1

Midleton were away to Douglas Hall in this premier league clash. The weather conditions were very poor with a strong wind making it very difficult for Midleton to play their passing game. It was always going to be a game of two halves with Midleton having the wind advantage in the first half and they dominated most of the possession without creating many clear cut chances. The best effort came for a Dale Holland free kick which just flew past the post.

With the wind at their backs Douglas came right into the game at the start of the second half but the Midleton defence held firm limiting Douglas to a couple of half chances. Mid way through the half Matt Mosinski latched onto a ball from Sean O'Sullivan and slotted the ball into the net. Douglas then applied a lot of pressure and got their reward deep into injury time with a well taken header. There was no one MOM for Midleton as every player put in a great effort considering the conditions.

League at home to Greenwood on Sunday 13th October 2013
Midleton 5 Greenwood 1

Midleton U14 came into this game on the back of some great performances over the past few weeks and today was no different with another successful win. Our defence was very strong today and Cian, Sully, Hoggy and Sean M gave a great display. First goal came from Alan Hogan who received the ball from Dale who had gone on a dribble with the ball and set Alan up who drove it top corner and kept his record of scoring in every game so far this season. Greenwood then pull one back bit then came goal of the day from Dale who scored from 30 yards in the top corner. Just before half time long distance shot from new player Matt Mosinski hit the net.

Second half we pull in two more goals one from a penalty when Charlie W was pulled down and then put away by Dale, Second came corner that Conor O'Leary put away. Tommy O'C and Oscar J also went close towards the end. Man of the match today went to Sean Morrissey who gave a great display in been cool in defence and passing. League away to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 6th October 2013
Ringmahon Rangers 2 Midleton 6

Midleton were away to Ringmahon in this premier league clash and applied plenty of early pressure without creating a clear cut chance. Mid way through the first half Ringmahon took the lead when a free kick was floated into the box which was headed in from close range. Ringmahon almost extended their lead only for Daniel McGauran to make a brilliant diving save. Midleton then responded with Conor O'Leary scoring a great goal from the edge of the box. Just before half time Midleton took the lead when Dale Holland cut in from the left and buried a shot in the corner.

Early in the second half Alan Hogan got the first of his four goals when he beat the keeper at the near post from a difficult angle. Ringmahon then scored with a great shot which flew into the top corner. From then on Midleton took total control and played their best football of the season with some lovely passing moves which cut Ringmahon apart.
Although every player cab be proud of their performance there could only be one MOM which of course was Alan Hogan with his four well taken goals.

League at home to Leeds on Sunday 22nd September 2013
Midleton 4 Leeds 1

Midleton had a great victory last Sunday morning against Leeds in the u14 Premier league. They did start a bit rocky conceding a goal after 90 seconds, but quickly equalised when a corner was delivered perfectly by Dale and Conor smashed home with a volley. The lads pused on for a second a Shane went very close with a deep penetrating run where he beat three players and then hit the crossbar with a sweet shot. There was some lovely passes of play before half time with some very good link play between defence, midfield and attack. We got the lead just before half when a long pass was put through the Leeds defence and up pop Alan Hogan again to put over the keepers head.

Midleton gave a great display in the second half with another two goals from Alan and Conor. Daniel Mc put in two great saves in the second half to deny leeds a way back into the game. In the last few minutes we came close a couple of more times especially Dale who hammered one shot against the inside post and Alan hogan was very unlucky not to snatch a hat trick. Overall all were happy on the day but special mention to Dale who had MOM performance and we'll deserved.

League away to Corinthian Boys on Sunday 15th September 2013
Corinthian Boys 5 Midleton 3

Midleton were away to last season's premier league winners Corinthians in the second league game. The conditions were poor with Midleton playing against a strong wind and driving rain in the first half. Corinthians applied a lot of pressure from the start and took the lead early on with a goal from close range. After 15 minutes Midleton came into the game and following a great move down the right Alan Hogan equalised with a neat finish. Corinthians then took the lead from a corner and went two ahead shortly after when a cross was caught by the wind and flew into the top corner. Just before half time Corinthians were awarded a penalty but Daniel McGauran pulled off a great save to keep it at 3-1.

Just as Midleton were starting to put some nice moves together early in the second half Corinthians broke away to score again. From this point on Midleton to their credit began to dominate and Shane O'Riordan scored with a curling shot from outside the box. With ten minutes to go Alan Horgan  split the defence with a lovely pass and Alan Hogan finished  with a great shot into the corner. It was all Midleton now and Conor O'Leary almost equalised with a great volley which just went over. With Midleton pushing everyone forward Corinthians broke in the last minute to seal their victory. Midleton can be very proud of their performance and can look forward with confidence to the next game.

League at home to Innisvilla on Tuesday 10th September 2013
Midleton 3 Innisvilla 3

First game of the season for Premier U14 team against Innisvilla, played in fabulous weather conditions for a soccer match. Midleton started the game very well and created many goal scoring chances during that period with the pick of them a thundering shot from Dale which rammed the underside of the cross bar and the side it came down could be disputed and also a great volley by debut player Alan Hogan which looked like the lead for Midleton but ruled out for offside. Innisvilla grabbed the lead in the 22nd minute against the run of play but Midleton equalised just before half time through Conor O'Leary.

Start of the second half was all Innisvilla who soon after got a second and nearly a third when they headed against the crossbar. Midleton began to settle mid half and through a corner taken by Alan Horgan, Sean O'Sullivan forced the ball home for another equaliser. We took the lead through some good midfield play by Tommy and Shane with Dale putting a lovely through ball which Alan Hogan got his right peg onto and put Midleton ahead. Game should have been closed out with only a few minutes left but  Innisvilla got there chance from distance a grab the equaliser late in the game. Midleton could have a got a late winner with some goalmouth action in added time. Roll on the next game.
