Under-15 Division 2 2011/12 Match Reports

League away to Buttevant on Wednesday 23rd May 2012
Buttevant 1 Midleton 8

Final away game of the season and a win would see us clinch the runner up spot. On probably the smallest pitch we have played on this season we completed the job with a comprehensive 8-1 victory. We started off well and James Leahy could have had a hat-trick inside 15mins but for the keeper twice and one shot he pushed wide when clean through. We eventually made the breakthrough with a tidy finish by Conor Fitzgerald on 15mins, we then had a further few chances as Kyle McCarthy and Killian Browne both went close. The second goal then arrived on 28mins when a lovely through ball by Ryan Denny was finished off by Kyle. We kept pressing but with Buttevant playing a high line we kept getting penalised for off sides. On 36mins though a quick move saw James cross to Conor who made it 3-0, it should have been four on 39mins as Conor crossed to Jack Enright but his shot just went over. Alvaro Miguel who was captain on his last appearance before returning to Spain then made a surging run and was brought down on the edge of the box. He took the free kick and with the aid of a slight deflection the ball hit the net to make it 4nil as the whistle blew for half time.

Second half saw us start strongly and Seadnaidh Smyth was making his prescence know as he was brought down in the box on 47mins. As we know from training his penalties are strong and true and this was the case as it nearly broke the net, for Seadnaidh his first goal of the season and our fifth of the goal. His wait for his second was only eleven minutes as following a corner from Kyle he was in the right place to make it 6nil on 57mins. Buttevant rallied and on 65mins scored a deserved goal but back we came and Cormac Beausang who had gone close twice made it third time lucky with a great run and finish to make it 7-1 on 70mins. There was still time for number eight as a flowing move saw John Looney just claim the goal although it looked like the defender might have given the ball a helping hand.

Game over and for the second year running this fine team have achieved promotion although not winners this time but as runners up. We give credit to Greenwood for winning the league and look forward to meeting them in the 2012/13 season.

Player of the season was announced at the end of the game and rightly went to James Leahy, Most Improved player was Ross Cummins who grew and grew as the season progressed, well done to both lads. Top goalscorer was Conor Fitzgerald with a fine total of 25, also well done to Conor and Kyle McCarthy who both played for the Cork U15 panel. Final mention goes to Kyle who played for the Ireland U15 team in Qatar last December

1. Joe Wyer 2. Ross Cummins 3. Alvaro Miguel 4. Dan Creedon 5. Ryan Denny 6. James Leahy 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Cormac Beausang 12. Seadnaidh Smyth 13. John Looney 14. Dylan Casey 15. China Igboanusi

League at home to Everton on Staurday 12th May 2012
Midleton 1 Everton 1

Final home game of the season and both sides needed a win to prevent Greenwood taking the title. We started off slowly but eventually got going and on 20mins a good move saw James leahy cross to Jack Enright whose shot unfortunately went straight at the keeper. With Conor Fitzgerald and Killian Browne linking up well down the right we were gradually getting the upper hand. We kept plugging away and both Kyle McCarthy and Dylan Casey had chances before Everton had their first chance on 30mins. Back we came and a crossball by Kyle was deflected by the defender into the path of James who finished well to make it one nil. On the stroke of half time we were unlucky not to make it 2nil when a fine ball from Kyle saw Dylan lob the keeper but the ball just went wide to leave it one nil at the break.

Second half and we started well enough again forcing the play with Kyle testing the keeper on 46mins from a free kick. Everton knowing they needed a win were attacking strongly but with Ryan Denny and Dan Creedon in fine form at the back we were restricting Everton from testing Joe Wyer in the goal. Everton went close on 50mins but Jack Enright was unlucky to see his goal disallowed for off-side. Disaster then struck on 60mins when a harmless free-kick was misjudged and went to the net to hand Everton the equaliser. With both sides needing a win the last 20mins was frantic as both teams pushed. We introduced China Igboanusi and his was unlucky when his surging ran and shot just went wide. Then with time nearly up Dylan's twisting run and shot was saved by the keeper has the ref blew for full time.

Although it looks like Greenwood's title, the lads really put in a fine effort today with standout displays from Dan Creedon, Ryan Denny and Kyle McCarthy. We have one more game to go away to Buttevant.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Ross Cummins 4. Dan Creedon 5. Ryan Denny 6. James Leahy 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. China Igboanusi 13. Andy Mcmahon 14. Ross Connor

Local Cup Final v Mayfiled United in Turner's Cross on Tuesday 8th May 2012
Midleton 1 Mayfield 1

The U15 Cup Final at Turner's Cross where the lads put in a fine performance but were denied by the horrors of a penalty shootout.

We started off a little bit nervously but gradually settled down and started to play; both sides had a few half chances before Kyle McCarthy saw his free kick just clear the crossbar on 16mins. A long ball by Mayfield saw them take the lead on 19mins with their No9 finishing well. This deflated us for a few minutes but back we came with Killian Browne testing the keeper on 28mins. It was nip and tuck for the rest of the half as both teams tried to play good football.

Second half saw us start brightly with John Looney testing the keeper on 45mins and James Leahy driving us forward we eventually got the goal we deserved on 48mins when John released Conor Fitzgerald and he finished well. It was a fine game now as both teams pushed but with Aaron Butler, Seadnaidh Smyth, Ryan Denny and Ross Cummins all rising to the challenge there was very little to bother Joe Wyer in the goal. We brought on Cormac Beausang and Garan Manley to replace Dylan Casey and Killian Browne who had both ran themselves into the ground. Then on 60mins a sweeping move saw James cross to Conor who first time shot flashed just wide. We were well on top now with Cormac making surging runs and another fine move saw Kyle shoot wide on 70mins. Conor was then one on one with the keeper he attempted to head the ball over the keeper but the keeper saved. Back came Mayfield on 75mins with a shot which just went wide, but we saw out the half to go to extra time.

Mayfield had the first half chance in extra time but our lad were working extremely hard to close then down it was nerve wracking but both defences were holding firm. Second half of extra time was end to end with James running miles to break up play, we forced a couple of corners but could not force the winner as the game went to penalties.

It was not to be as their keeper saved our second and fifth penalty to give Mayfield the Trophy.

Although we could not bring home the trophy it was a pleasure to watch this team as they showed they can compete with the premier teams. Although the Man of the Match went to a Mayfield player we had our own MOM in James Leahy who had another great game in the centre of the midfield.

Team 1 Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Ross Cummins 4. Seadnaidh Smyth 5. Ryan Denny 6. James Leahy 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. John Looney 11. Dylan Casey 12. Cormac Beausang 13. Jack Enright 14. Alvaro Miguel 15. Daniel Creedon 16. Garan Manley

Local Cup at home to Springfield Ramblers on Wednesday 2nd May 2012
Midleton 2 Springfield Ramblers 0

Turner's Cross here we come as we defeated a third Premier team to reach the final of the U15 Local cup where we will meet Mayfield United.

As for this game we played really well with a mix of passing football, hard work and spirit when it was needed. We started off well with John Looney having a storming display and were in front inside 7mins when a defensive mixup left Conor Fitzgerald with the easy chance of scoring. We kept pressing with Kyle McCarthy and James Leahy working very hard to close down the Springfield midfield and Dylan Casey and Killian Browne providing width and discpline on the wings. Both teams kept playing good football but with both defences staying strong we got to half time with a one nil lead.

Second half started with Springfield pushing us back and it took a fine save by Joe Wyer on 44mins to prevent an equaliser. We started to settle again with Kyle and John linking up very well and James driving forward he saw the keeper make a good save on 49mins. Back came Springfield but the back four of Aaron Butler, Ross Cummins, Ryan Denny and Seadnaidh Smyth were tenacious with their defending. It was then Joe\'s turn to spring into action on 64mins when he pulled off a tremendous save for the second time in the match. As we entered the last ten minutes every minute seemed like ten but we kept playing and on 79mins a corner by Kyle was met at the far post by a towering header by John to seal our victory and a place in the final.

A great win with another fine team display from everyone, sharing MOM this week is Joe Wyer for his fine shot stopping when it was needed and John Looney who had his best game of the season. Well done lads

1. Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Ross Cummins 4. Seanaidh Smyth 5. Ryan Denny 6. James Leahy 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. John Looney 11. Dylan Casey 12. Cormac Beausang 13. Jack Enright 14. Alvaro Miguel 15. Daniel Creedon

League away to Everton on Saturday 21s April 2012
Everton 3 Midleton 2

We slipped to defeat but all is not lost in the race for the league title. On a very windy morning with hale and rain we knew that flowing football was going to be at a premium. We played against the wind in the 1st half and for the first ten minutes were pinned back in our half but a quick break saw James Leahy's volley hit the bar leaving Alvaro Miguel with an open goal but his header went wide. Back came Everton as we rode our luck at times as they hit the upright and then won a succession of corners which we defended well. We had a couple of breaks but with the winds behind Everton's back they kept forcing us back and Dylan Casey was in the right place to clear a shot off the line. Just as it looked like we would get to half time scoreless a move broke down in midfield and fall to the Everton no9 on the edge of our box and with a sweet volley he finished well to put Everton one to the good at half time.

Second half could not have started better for us as within a minute we were on level terms with James Leahy heading home at the back post following a corner from Alvaro. We were pressing well but conceded a poor goal three minutes later to hand Everton back the lead. We kept going dominating possession and Alvaro was unlucky to see the keeper pull off a fine save, then Ryan Denny saw his header cleared off the line. It was only a matter of time and a good pass by Kyle McCarthy released Conor Fitzgerald who finished well to make it 2-2 on 57mins. The play ebbed and flowed but disaster struck on 69mins when Dylan Casey looked as though he had been fouled but the ref allowed play to continue and and after a melee in the box Everton scored to make it 3-2. Try as we might we could not force the equalizing goal, John Looney was so close to a Cormac Beausang cross, and then after Cormac's shot was saved Jack Winckworth saw his follow up saved, then in the last minute a free kick by Kyle was inches away from Ryan connecting.

A tough one to lose but still all to play for as we still have to meet Everton at home. As for today the team were very unlucky to lose a draw would have been a fair result as Everton are a good team.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Dylan Casey 4. Seanaidh Smyth 5. Cormac Beausang 6. Ryan Denny 7. James Leahy 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Alvaro Miguel 12. Killian Browne 13. Ross Cummins 14. David Murphy 15. Jack Winckworth 16. John Looney

Local Cup at Home to Blarney United on Wednesday 18th April 2012
Midleton 1 BlarneyUnited 0

Another really good team display saw us advance to the last four of the local cup where we will meet the winners of the Springfield v Midleton A, here's hoping our colleagues can pull off a win.

We started off very well and Conor Fitzgerald had three good half chances which he could not dispatch. Despite playing against the wind we were controlling the play with Seadnaidh Smyth, James Leahy and Kyle McCarthy bossing the midfield. This was allowing Killian Browne and Dylan Casey to give us plenty of width as we pressed the game. Blarney came back in the game for ten mins forcing a number of corners but with the back four impressing again with both full backs Aaron Butler and Ross Cummins giving little away we got back in control. Just on half time a slick move involving Dylan, Killian and finally Conor saw the keeper pull off a fine save to leave the game scoreless at half time.

Second half and again we dominated the play, first on 50mins a corner saw the keeper pull on a fine save from Dylan, which Seadnaidh just flashed over the bar. We kept pressing and whatever possession Blarney got it was won back very quickly. There were several shots from Kyle, Conor and James but just when it looked like being one of those days a corner from Kyle find it\'s way to Conor whose fierce shot was only parried to James Leahy who had the easy chance of converting, no more than he deserved for the all action display he put in.

Back came Blarney for the last ten minutes as Joe Wyer pulled off one fine save from a free kick, but the defence held firm to see us through to the Semi-final.

A real good team performance, the defence unit all put in a good shift, as did the midfield trio, whilst the front three created many chances. We now move onto a big league game at the weekend against Everton. MOM this week not just for his goal but his all round display is James Leahy.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Ross Cummins 3. Aaron Butler 4. Seanaidh Smyth 5. Daniel Creedon 6. Ryan Denny 7. James Leahy 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Killian Browne 11. Dylan Casey 12. Alvaro Miguel 13. Jack Enright 14. Cormac Beausang 15. Jack Winckworth 16. John Looney 17. David Murphy

League away to Kinsale on Monday 9th April 2012
Kinsale 2-7 Midleton
Conor Fitzgerald 4, Dylan Casey, James Leahy, Own Goal.

A very good win as yet again despite missing seven players through Easter holidays and unavailability the thirteen who travelled played extremely well especially in the second half. We played against the wind in the first half and were pinned back for long periods as Kinsale took the game to us from the off and we find it difficult to get going. We remained patient with Ryan Denny and Dan Creedon staying strong at the back we kept them at bay. Then a fine ball from Kyle McCarthy released Conor Fitzgerald who in one movement turned and volleyed the ball past the keeper to make it one nil on 20mins. We had a few half chances but Kinsale kept pressing and Joe Wyer made a fine save on 35mins to push the ball past the post for a corner. Unfortunately from the corner Kinsale drew level as we were unable to clear the ball, we were back in front within 3mins as Kyle's free kick was too hot for the keeper to handle and Dylan Casey was on hand to give us the half time lead.

Second half saw us really up the ante, with Dylan and Killian Browne giving us plenty of width, first Jack Winckworth's with a surging run saw his shot just go wide and then on 48mins Kyle's corner was nodded in at the back post with a towering header from James Leahy to make it 3-1. Our fourth goal on 50mins was a carbon copy as Kyle's floated corner was headed in by Conor for his second of the game. This really knocked the stuffing out of Kinsale who resorted to some pretty robust challenges which saw the referee bring out his yellow card on a number of occasions. We keep our cool and on 62mins number five arrived as a scrabble in the box saw the Kinsale defender slice the ball into his own net. It was now all one way traffic as we were playing some fine football, sub Andy McMahon went close on two occasions before Conor completed his hat-trick with a fine finish on 79mins after being released by Kyle. Kinsale replied with a goal on 80mins but back we came as another assist by Kyle saw Conor round the keeper to score his fourth and our seventh of the match to make it 7-2.

Another win but the display from the whole team was excellent. A number of players deserve special mention skipper Kyle McCarthy who had a super game with six assists, Conor Fitzgerald with his four goal haul and James Leahy who capped an all action display with a fine goal.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Ross Cummins 3. Aaron Butler 4. Daniel Creedon 5. Ryan Denny 6. James Leahy 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Winckworth 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Dylan Casey 12. Andy McMahon 13. Ross Connor

Local cup away to Ballincollig on 24th March 2012
Ballincollig 1-2 Midleton
Conor Fitzgerald 2

We made it through to the last eight of the local cup with a well deserved win over Premier opposition. Despite only having twelve players available the lads who could play showed good nerve and plenty of good football to get the victory. On a fine day for football we started off very well and were two up inside 20mins with Conor Fitzgerald getting both goals. The first was a shot on 13mins which dipped under the keeper's body and the second on 19mins a penalty after Jack Enright's shot was handled. At this stage we were well on top with Garan Manley and Kyle McCarthy controlling the midfield we created a number of half chances, Killian Browne going the closest with a dipping volley. Just as though it looked we would get to half time without conceding, Ballincollig got a goal back from a deflected free kick which gave Jow Wyer in the goal no chance.

Second half saw us create chance after chance to seal the game but a mixture of good goalkeeping and poor finishing saw Alvaro Miguel on three occasions, Garan and Jack all thwarted. Ballincollig came on strong but with the defence in fine form with James Leahy having a fine game covering at right back and Ryan Denny in commanding form at centre back we weathered the late storm to make it through.

Great to make the last eight and with a home fixture for the quarters and a full panel who knows. As for today no MOM as this was another good all round team performance from all involved, Well Done lads.

1. Joe Wyer 2. James Leahy 3. Dylan Casey 4. Ross Cummins 5. Ryan Denny 6. Garan Manley 7. Conor Fitzgerald 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Killian Browne 11. Alvaro Miguel 12. David Murphy

League away to Passage United on Monday 19th March 2012
Passage United 1-5 Midleton
Jack Enright, Alvaro Miguel, Own Goal, Conor Fitzgerald, Jack Winckworth.

A win is a win and despite not playing as well as we did last week and with 5 players unavailable from the panel we came away with the 3 points. We started well enough and were two to the good after 13mins, first a good pass from Kyle McCarthy released Jack Enright who finished well on 7mins. Then on 13 mins a nice move down the right saw Jack cross for Alvaro Miguel to score his first of the season and make it 2nil. That was a good as it got for us for the remainder of the first half as Passage reduced the deficit on 19mins with a scrappy goal and then pinned us back for long periods as we could find no rhythm to our play.

Second half started off well for us as a corner by Kyle was deflected into his goal by a Passage defender to make it 3-1 on 43mins. Back came Passage for the next ten minutes but with Ryan Denny leading the defence we stood firm and gradually began to open up Passage, James Leahy was covering a mountain of ground to break up play and our passing game was beginning to create chances. Killian Browne was unlucky on 55mins when his was released by Conor Fitzgerald but pulled his shot wide of the post, then James was clean through on two occasions but again dragged his shots wide, Conor was next to just miss the target but eventually he finished well on 73mins to make it 4-1. Sub Jack Winckworth was making his presence know and was close on two occasions before his finished low to the corner to make it 5-1 on 80mins.

A solid display to take the points as the score line slightly flattered us, but well done again to Jamie Clohessy who again stood between the posts and played well. In a game where hard graft and determination was needed two players stood out today, Ryan Denny at the back and James leahy in midfield had a fine games, Well Done lads.

1. Jamie Clohessy 2. Aaron Butler 3. Dylan Casey 4. James Leahy 5. Daniel Creedon 6. Ryan Denny 7. Conor Fitzgerald 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Killian Browne 11. Alvaro Miguel 12. Ross Cummins 13. Garan Manley 14. Jack Winckworth

League at home to Avondale United on Staurday 10th March 2012
Midleton 3-0 Avondale
Conor Fitzgerald, Garan Manley 2

A good win where we started like a runaway train and were three to the good after 20mins. Conor Fitzgerald opened our account on 5mins when he bullied his way through to slot our opener. Seadnaidh Smyth then went on a mazy run and was only stopped by a good save from the keeper before a flowing move saw Conor cross for Garan Manley to tap in to make it 2nil on 15mins. Our third arrived 5mins later as James Leahy never say die attitude saw his cross stroked to the net for Garan's second of the match.

We then stopped playing for ten minutes as Avondale came back into the game but with Dan Creedon and Ryan Denny rock sound at the back we got going again with Kyle McCarthy and Seadnaidh pulling the strings in midfield it could have been 4nil on half time as Killian Browne who was having a fine game saw his strike hit the post and rebound to safety. Half time 3nil to us.

Second half and we started well enough and Garan was unlucky not to complete his hat-trick on 50mins when he was clean through but struck his shot wide, he then saw his header flash wide after a good cross by Killian. The game then went into a bit of a malaise as both teams gave all the subs a run but we finished strongly as Conor saw his shot go wide and Seadnaidh had two shots which nearly went in. Final score 3nil.

A real good team performance overall, from 1 to 16, Jamie Clohessy had a fine game in goal and was very steady throughout, with Dan and Ryan solid at the heart of the defence. Kyle had his best game in weeks as did Killian with Seadnaidh bossing the midfield with James, it was left to Garan and Conor to notch the goals. No MOM this week as there were to many good displays to pick out one individual. Well Done lads.

1. Jamie Clohessy 2. Ross Cummins 3. Dylan Casey 4. Seanaidh Smyth 5. Daniel Creedon 6. Ryan Denny 7. James Leahy 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Killian Browne 11. Garan Manley 12. Alvaro Miguel 13. Jack Enright 14. Aaron Butler 15. Jack Winckworth 16. David Murphy

Local Cup away to Watergrasshill United on Saturday 25th February 2012
Watergrasshill United 4 Midleton 6
Scorers - Cormac Beausang, Garan Manley, Kyle McCarthy 2 and Jack Winckworth 2
.
Our first game for six weeks but what a game, as we we got out of jail but also showed a never say die attitude which eventually saw us prevail. We started well enough and should have been 2nil up but Conor Fitzgerald saw both his chances go straight at the keeper. Watergrasshill started to come back into the game and were looking dangerous from set pieces, and on 20mins take the lead with a free kick from the edge of the box. This spurred them on as they won corner after corner but we defended well with Ryan Denny winning header after header. We had a few half chances and John Looney was unlucky not get a penalty when he was brought down in the box, as we got to half time one down.

We needed to start strongly in the second half but were 3nil down inside 3minutes as on 42mins the Hill were awarded a pen which was converted and with their next attack a weak shot eluded Joe Wyer in the goal. A mountain to climb we introduced Garan Manley and Ross Cummins and with Cormac Beausang driving us forward we started to play. On 60mins a cross on the right was met with a truly magnificant overhead strike from Cormac which nestled in the top right hand corner of the net. A minute later Conor passed to Garan who turned the defender and finished well to the corner 3-2 and game on. We pushed forward but back came the Hill and on 74 mins were awarded a soft pen which was converted to make it 4-2 with 6mins to go, you would have thought game over but back we came and following a throw Kyle McCarthy scored to make it 4-3 on 76mins. All five subs were now on as we went 3-4-3, with time running out the ball broke to Kyle on the edge of the box, and like slow motion his strike hit the back of the net to make it 4-4 and extra time.

This really knocked the stuffing out of the Hill and within one minute we were in front for the 1st time as Conor crossed for sub Jack Winckworth to finish low to the corner, we keep pressing and Garan was unlucky to see his shot come off the bar. Half time in extra time 5-4 to us. Second period of extra time and we kept the pressure up and another sweet move saw Garan cross for Jack to repeat the medicine and make it 6-4 on 95mins. He was then unlucky as another cross by Garan saw the ref disallow his goal when he looked onside but time was up as we moved onto the last sixteen.

What a game, and few dues to the Hill who were unfortunate to lose out in the end and possess a good team. For us six weeks without a game certainly showed at times but we also showed great character to win the game. It was great to see all the lads who were sub Garan, Russ, Killian, David and Jack make telling contributions when we needed it. MOM this week with his fine performance was Cormac with a special mention to Garan and Jack whose two excellent goals in extra time sealed the win.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Alvaro Miguel 4. James Leahy 5. Daniel Creedon 6. Ryan Denny 7. Cormac Beausang 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. John Looney 11. Dylan Casey 12. Garan Manley 13. Killian Browne 14. Ross Cummins 15. Jack Winckworth 16. David Murphy

League away to Greenwood on Saturday 14th January 2012
Midleton 1 Greenwood 2
Scorer - Conor Fitzgerald

Our first league defeat of the season where Greenwood avenged their loss to us early in the season with the same scoreline. Playing against the strong breeze we struggled to get going in the first half as both defences were well on top. Both teams were struggling to create any chances but on 20mins Greenwood took the lead when a bit of slack play from our throw in led to the Greenwood striker finishing well. We came back into the game in the last ten mins of the half but when the whistle blew for half time the Greenwood keeper had not been tested.

With the breeze at our backs we started well in the second half but on 46mins we were 2 down as a cruel deflection led to an own goal from a very tame shot. With four subs introduced we kept taking the game to Greenwood and a smart turn and shot by Conor Fitzgerald was rewarded with a goal on 60mins. We kept pushing and Jack Enright saw his shot saved but we could not turn our possession into clear cut chances as Greenwood defended very well to see out the game and victory.

Well done to Greenwood who handed us our first league defeat of the season. For us there were few stand out displays but both Seadnaidh and Dylan worked very hard throughout the game. We will now dust ourselves down and look forward to the next match to get our promotion campaign back on track.

midleton fcLeague at home to Kinsale on Sunday 20th November 2011
Midleton 3 Kinsale 2
Goal Scorers - Dylan Casey, Jack Enright, Ryan Denny.

Where to start, minus Kyle who was away training with Ireland and Cormac who was sick, we welcomed back Seadnaidh from injury but we got off to the worst possible start when poor defending let Kinsale score inside 4mins. We gradually got back into the game and a slick move saw Jack Enright hit the post on 10mins, Kinsale were defending deep and trying to hit us on the break, and on 17mins another defensive blunder let in Kinsale for number two. We were now in deep trouble but again we took the game to Kinsale we were dominating possession but Kinsale were defending well, from a corner Ryan Denny saw his shot cleared off the line, a couple of half chances came and went and the whistle blew for half-time and we were down by two without playing badly.

With a mountain to climb we were determined to make amends, the intro of John Looney to the fray on 45mins settled the team as we began to turn the screw, Seadnaidh and James Leahy were working so hard in midfield and on 50mins a corner by Alvaro Miguel was turned in by Dylan Casey to narrow the gap. On 52mins we were all square as Jack Enright turned well and finished well to the corner, we kept pressing Conor Fitzgerald was unlucky on 2 occasions and then Jack narrowly shot wide when put through. Pressure was now mounting on Kinsale as the midfield drive us forward and a foul on the edge of the box lead to our winner. Conor put in a firm shot which the keeper could not hold and following up was captain Ryan to bury the ball to make it 3-2 on 73mins. We saw out the final seven minutes to complete a fine comeback and maintain our unbeaten start to the league campaign.

It wasn't pretty at times but the lads dug deep when they needed it most and got their reward in the end, MOM this week again difficult to call as there were a number of good performances with strong second half displays from Alvaro, Seadnaidh, Jack, James and John, shading the MOM would be James and Seadnaidh for the sheer workrate the two put in.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Alvaro Miguel 4. James Leahy 5. Ross Cummins 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8. Seadnaidh Symth 9. Jack Enright 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Dylan Casey 12. David Murphy 13. John Looney 14. Jack Winckworth 15. Daniel Creedon.

League away to Bandon on 5th November 2011
Bandon 1-6 Midleton
Goal Scorers Conor Fitzgerald 3, Jack Enright, Cormac Beausang, Jack Winckworth.

On a very poor pitch, flowing football was again hard to find but we eventually came away with the three points. For the first ten minutes we were all at sea as we struggled to adapt to the conditions and it was no surprise when Bandon took the lead after we failed to clear the ball. This seemed to shock us into life and we drew level within a minute as Conor Fitzgerald picked out Jack Enright who finished well. For the next 15mins we started to come into the game as we changed our style to suit the pitch and we then blitzed Bandon with 3 goals in 4 minutes. First a long pass from Kyle McCarthy was latched onto by Conor who lobbed the keeper to give us the lead on 26mins. Number three followed on 29mins when Conor's cross to the far post was finished well by Cormac Beausang for his first of the season, Bandon kicked off but we won the ball back and a one-two between Jack and Conor finished with Conor making it 4-1 on 30mins. Half time score 4-1 to Midleton.

midleton fcSecond half saw us put in a much better team display, with the defence led by Ryan Denny and Ross Cummins giving Joe Wyer little to do as any break by Bandon was broken up by a firm tackle or header. With Cormac and Kyle working hard in midfield we had the lion's share of the possession as we looked to add to our goal tally, but fair dues to Bandon who were defending well. With all three subs on we kept pressing and Alvaro Miguel was unlucky when his shot clipped the post, then Cormac drew a good save from the keeper but on 70mins a cross from Alvaro was tucked away by Conor to complete his hat-trick. A sixth was to follow as another long pass from Kyle find Conor whose shot was parried to Jack Winckworth to score on his debut and make the final score 6-1.

Another good win on a very poor pitch where we had to work hard for our victory. There was no MOM this week as it was a good all round team performance with a number of lads putting in good solid displays, Ryan had a great second half as did Kyle and Cormac who both worked extremely hard in midfield, with Conor tucking away a nice hat-trick to round things off.

Also congratulations to Kyle McCarthy who has been selected for the Republic of Ireland Under 15’s Squad for the friendly games against Aspire Academy taking place in December, well done Kyle.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. David Murphy 4. James Leahy 5. Ross Cummins 6. Ryan Denny 7. Cormac Beausang 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Dylan Casey 12. Alvaro Miguel 13. Killian Browne 14. Jack Winckworth

League away to Avondale United on 22nd October 2011
Avondale United 0-1 Midleton

Goal Scorer John Looney

Top two teams in the league and we managed to come away with a narrow 1-0 victory. We welcomed back number 1 keeper Joe Wyer from injury and on a very wet and windy day flowing football was hard to come by as both teams find the going hard. We played with the wind and the slope and could of scored within 15 seconds as Cormac Beausang put in a fine cross which Jack Enright was inches away from connecting. This was to be the only real chance of the 1st half as both defences cancelled out any attacks. Ryan Denny and Russ Cummins were in fine form with a number of crunching tackles and headers but this was matched by the Avondale centre half's who were doing the exact same to us. James Leahy was covering every blade of grass but we could not breach the Avondale defence and as the rain continued to fall the ref blew for half time with the game scoreless.

Second half saw Avondale with the advantage of the wind and the slope and they torn into us for the first ten minutes, winning a succession of corners, but with the defence standing firm and Joe Wyer's handling superb we ride the storm. John Looney came on for his debut and his measured passing and work-rate settled the team. Kyle McCarthy was know coming into the game and aided by James and Cormac we began to get a foothold in the game again. On 60mins a good move ended with Conor Fitzgerald hitting a good chance straight at the keeper, we were still defending very well and counter attacking on the break, and on 75mins our chance came. A long ball was controlled by Russ who hit a great ball to Cormac who played it into Kyle and in one movement he laid it into the path of John who took one touch and finished well to give us the lead and be our tenth different scorer of the season already. Avondale poured forward for the last few minutes but once again we stood firm to secure a very important victory and inflict Avondale's first defeat of the season.

A good win slightly harsh on Avondale as a draw would probably have been a fair result but we will take it. This was not a day for flowing football but a day for commitment and hard work as shown by the two centre backs Ryan and Russ, James and Cormac also worked very hard, but just shading MOM this week would be Russ Cummins.

1. Joe Wyer 2. Aaron Butler 3. Alvaro Miguel 4. James Leahy 5. Russ Cummins 6. Ryan Denny 7. Cormac Beausang 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Conor Fitzgerald 11. Dylan Casey 12. David Murphy 13. Killian Browne 14. John Looney 15. Daniel Creedon 16. Jack Winckworth

National Cup away to Mallow on 15th October 2011
Mallow 4-1 Midleton
Goal Scorer Dylan Casey

Third round of the National cup saw us away to Premier team Mallow and although we lost the scoreline did not do us justice as we put in a fine effort. Missing a number of players we travelled with only 13 and still minus our regular keeper Jamie Clohessey took the No 1 jersey and did very well on his debut. Mallow opened up very well and we were on the back foot for the first ten minutes as they took the lead when we were unable to clear a scrabble in the box. We then began to settle as the game became more even, Ryan Denny was having a great game at centre back with a number of fine tackles and headers as we began to thwart the Mallow attacks. Then disaster struck as we conceded 2 goals in three minutes the first a great header from a fine cross and the second a strike from 30 yards out which left Jamie with no chance. It would have been very easy for us to fold but we came again and finished the half the stronger, first Kyle McCarthy on 34mins rattled the bar with a great strike, he then released Jack Enright whose shot when straight at the keeper.

Second half saw us take the game to Mallow as we upped our performance. With Ryan, Russ Cummins and Aaron Butler marshalling the defence and Kyle beginning to see more of the ball we began to push Mallow. We were unlucky on 50mins when Ryan meet Kyle's corner with a great header but Dylan Casey was unable to direct it goalbound. Out of the blue Mallow broke to make it 4nil on 55mins but we kept playing with Dylan, Kyle and Cormac Beausang now coming strongly into the game. We eventually got our reward on 70mins when Dylan finished a flowing move by lobbing the keeper to make it 4-1. The last 10mins saw us camped in the Mallow half as Jack saw the keeper make a great save and then Cormac saw his strike go narrowly wide. We kept pushing but we unable to score to give Mallow the victory, we wish them well in the next round.

Our 1st defeat of the season but in defeat the lads should be extremely pleased with the way they fought and played. Kyle McCarthy led by example and gave a fine performance as did Aaron Butler and Dylan Casey but standing out at centre back was Ryan Denny who gave his all to take the MOM this week. With a number of players returning from injury and a couple of new signings made to bolster the squad we can look forward to the next game with confidence.

1. Jamie Clohessey 2. Aaron Butler 3. Alvaro Miguel 4. James Leahy 5. Russ Cummins 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Jack Enright 10. Cormac Beausang 11. Dylan Casey 12. David Murphy 13. China Igboanusi

League at home to Passage on Sunday 9th October 2011
Midleton 5 Passage 2
Conor Fitzgerald 2, Jack Enright, Ryan Denny, James Leahy.

Third League game of the season saw us put in another good performance. Minus regular keeper Joe Wyer through injury Cormac Beausang took the No 1 jersey and he had a very easy 1st half as we dominated the half. First chance came on 10 mins when Conor Fitzgerald pulled back to Jack Enright but his shot went over the bar. With Dylan Casey having a great game down the left and Killian Browne likewise down the right we looked threatening every time we went forward. A foul on Dylan on 23mins led to Kyle McCarthy striking the bar with a terrific free kick. We were not to be denied as a poor kick out was finished well by Conor on 25mins to give us the lead, another sweeping move saw Dylan pull back to the ball to Ryan Denny and his was unlucky to see his strike hit the bar. A minute later the keeper pulled off a great save from James Leahy but on 35mins when it looked like it was going to be one of those games, a poor clearance saw Conor again finish well to make it 2-0. We kept pushing forward and Conor was unlucky to see his shot go just wide to leave the half time score 2nil to us.

Second half saw Passage come into the game as it take us a while to get going again, but first Conor was denied by the keeper and then he had a goal disallowed which looked marginal. On 60mins though we got our third when Dylan released Jack who finished well to the corner, our fourth was only 6mins away as a Kyle corner was finished at the back post with a great header by Ryan for his 1st of the season. Some sloppy defending left Passage in on 70mins to make it 4-1, but on 73mins a good pass by Kyle let in James Leahy for his 1st of the season to make it 5-1. Fair dues to Passage who never stopped trying and they made it 5-2 on 78mins.

A good win, minus a number of players out through injury we again played some great football from back to front passing the ball extremely well. Also thanks to Patrick Horgan and Cameron Smyth from the U14a for lining out today both got on as second half subs. Difficult to pick out man of the match this week as it was a solid team performance but Dylan Casey would just shade it for his all round display.

1. Cormac Beausang 2. Aaron Butler 3. Alvaro Miguel 4. James Leahy 5. Russ Cummins 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. David Murphy 13. Patrick Horgan 14. Cameron Smyth

National Cup away to Douglas Hall A on 24th September
Douglas Hall A 1-8 Midleton
Kyle McCarthy 3, China Igboanusi 3, Conor Fitzgerald, Jack Enright.

First round of the National Cup saw us away to Douglas HallA where at times we put in a master class in the art of passing. First half was all one way traffic as we moved the ball at speed, Killian Browne was unlucky after 2mins when his left foot strike hit the post, but on 4mins Kyle McCarthy opened our account with a terrific strike from 25 yards. His second on 8mins was a carbon copy when after another slick move his long range strike hit the net. With Aaron Butler over lapping at every opportunity his attacking play led to Killian providing the pass for Conor Fitzgerald to slot our third on 17mins. Our fourth was a gem as Kyle completed his hat-trick with a beaut again from outside the box on 20mins. It was tremendous to watch and after 28mins another storming run by Aaron his cross was tucked away by Jack Enright for our fifth and his 1st of the season. Half time arrived with us 5nil to the good.

Second half saw Douglas put in a spirited 20 mins and they scored a well deserved goal after 54mins to narrow the gap. With all 4 subs on it took us a while to get going again and the Douglas goal seemed to get the best out of us. For the last 20mins we were camped in the Douglas half, a Conor strike hit the post, sub Alvaro Miguel dragged his shot just wide, then on 69mins fellow sub China Igboanusi powered through to finish well to make it 6-1. Another crisp move saw China released and again he finished well to make it 7-1, with time up he was not to be denied and after rounding the keeper he completed his hat-trick to make it 8-1, what an impact sub an 11 minute hat-trick.

A good win, apart from 20mins in the second half we played some great football from back to front passing the ball extremely well. Stand out performers though were Aaron who had a storming 1st half, Kyle with his general play and three great strikes, and China with his 11 minute hat-trick. MOM award this week again very difficult, but Kyle would just edge it from China.

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler  3. David Murphy 4. James Leahy 5. Cormac Beausang 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8. Kyle McCarthy 9. Conor Fitzgerald 10. Jack Enright 11. Dylan Casey 12. Russ Cummins 13. Alvaro Miguel 14.China Igboanusi 15. Andy McMahon

League v Greenwood on Saturday 10th September 2011
Greenwood 1-2 Midleton
Conor Fitzgerald 2
.
First away game of the season and after a strong second half performance we ran out winners in the end. Playing against the strong wind in the first half we struggled to settle and after 10mins Greenwood took the lead when we failed to cut out a long ball. Chances were limited for both sides as defences were on top, but after 28mins Seanaidh Smyth was unlucky when his shot hit the post following a corner. Half time score 1-0 to Greenwood.

Playing with the wind in the second half saw us put in a much better display, with skipper Kyle McCarthy switched back to midfield, and Seanaidh and Garan Manley to the fore we take the game to Greenwood. The equaliser arrived on 46mins after a mazy run by Garan, Conor Fitzgerald hit a fine strike to level the game. With subs Jack Enright and Russ Cummins adding purpose to our game our passing game began to flow and on 60 mins Conor added our second of the game to give us the lead. We could have added a third with a little more luck in front of goal but for the last five minutes Greenwood poured forward looking for the equaliser but with Cormac Beausang and Ryan Denny standing firm to the challenge ably assisted by Aaron Butler and two fine saves by Joe Wyer in goal we secured the victory.

A good win, again with a all round team performance from 1 to 15, all four subs played their part, the back five all played well, giving very little away, Seanaidh and Kyle both had great games at the heart of the midfield, assisted by Garan who had a storming 20mins after half time and Conor was on hand to finish off the chances. MOM award this week again very difficult, so it will have to be shared between Seanaidh, Garan and Kyle.

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Aaron Butler  3. Dylan Casey 4. Seanaidh Smyth 5. Cormac Beausang 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8.Kyle McCarthy 9.Conor Fitzgerald 10. James Leahy 11. Garan Manley 12. Russ Cummins 13. David Murphy 14. Jack Enright 15. Alavro Miguel

League v Buttevant on 27th August 2011
Midleton 8-0 Buttevant
Conor Fitzgerald 3, Kyle McCarthy 2, Andy McMahon 2, Killian Browne.

First game of the new season and minus seven players due to holidays and injuries we took to the pitch with the bare eleven players and 80 minutes of football ahead of us. We should not have worried as the eleven who played put in a fine performance comfortable running out 8nil winners. We took the lead after 7mins when a nice pass by James Leahy was finished well by Conor Fitzgerald. For the remainder of the half we were camped in the Buttevant box as numerous chances came and went. Eventually another sweeping move on 34mins was finished at the back post by Andy McMahon who was making his debut for us. The half time score 2-0.

Playing against the wind in the second half we upped the ante and scored 3 goals in six minutes, the 1st on 46mins after a good pass by Andy, Killian Browne finished with a good strike. Conor added his second and then another to complete his hat-trick on 52mins. We were now firmly in control with Kyle and James controlling the middle and Dylan Casey and Killian adding width on the wings.

Another good move gave skipper Kyle McCarthy his 1st of the season on 70mins and then on 71mins Kyle pulled back to let Andy score his 2nd of the match. We were not finished as James speed through to leave Kyle with an easy tap for his second and our eight goal of the match.

All in all a good all round team performance from 1 to 11, the back five were in total control, as were the midfield who supplied plenty of ball to Conor and Andy. Thanks to Andy and Cathal Martin from the u14s who both played very well, we also wish Jamie Warrington a speedy recovery from injury. MOM award this week very difficult so the whole team who played deserve to share the award.

1. Joseph Wyer 2. Cathal Martin  3. David Murphy 4. James Leahy 5. Jack Enright 6. Ryan Denny 7. Killian Browne 8.Kyle McCarthy 9.Conor Fitzgerald 10. Andy McMahon 11. Dylan Casey
