Under-17 2013/14 Division 1

Local Cup at home to Leeds on Sunday 13th April 2014
Midleton 2 Leeds 3

Midleton played Leeds in the local cup semi final today and lost by one goal. Midleton put pressure on Leeds from the from the whistle and pressed them up high. Midleton were unlucky not to take the lead in the first ten minutes when Brownie played Conor through only for the keeper to make the save. Leeds took the lead on twenty.

The second half Midleton took control of the game and a ball from James to Conor saw Conor beat the defender and the keeper. With the game at one all and not a lot between the teams Leeds took the lead when the ball spilled in front of the goal and the Leeds players react and took the lead. Leed's third came from a mistake. Midleton got back into the game when a long ball to conor who took it down first time and goal a great goal. Midleton now pressed for their third but time was not on our side. A great game in midfield from James and Cormac and Jack who controlled the game. With Dylan and Brownie on the wings pening up Leeds Conor up front today was the Leeds defenders worst nightmare and they could not deal with him well done Conor. The defenders Aaron, Dan, Ryan and China was a solid defence but with China coming off and Jack that gave Leeds the advantage. The best game we played all season well done lads.

Local Cup at home to Douglas Hall on Wednesday 9th April 2014
Midleton 4 Douglas Hall 3

Midleton played Douglas Hall in the quarter final of the cup and the game ended after extra time 2-2. There was not much betwwen these two teams and to be fair it could have gone either way. Midleton went ahead in the first half when Jack took down a pass from Brownie and beat the keeper near post. Douglas came back into the game with in ten minutes when a poor clearance from Midleton let Douglas back into the game. Douglas pressed Midleton and Liam had 2 good saves to keep the score 1-1 all at half time.

Again Midleton took the lead with a pass to Jack who again beat the keeper for his second to make it 2-1.
Again Midleton payed the price and Douglas got back into the game to make it 2-2. To be fair not much in this game and extra time no one could take the advantage with Conor coming closest and Jack. Penaltys and Jack, Conor, Dan,and James all scored for Midleton to win 4-3. Liam in goals again saved one he is proving very good at saving penaltys. Not the best game but a lot of nerves out there tonight, but Midleton did deserve to win this one. With Dylan and Brownie providing the width and the balls in the box Midleton missed more than they scored. Greta defending tonight from China, Aaron, Cormac and Dan who won all the long balls to keep the pressure off the back line. Jack and Conor proved at times a hand full and were unlucky not to score more. With Ryan on for China and Ross on for Max Midleton now move on to the semis well done lads great win tonight.

League at home to Kinsale on Sunday 6th April 2014
Midleton 0 Kinsale 1

Midleton welcomed Kinsale to Knockgriffin in a clash of second against third. Midleton started this game out of sorts and Kinsale started the better. Kinsale got their goal in the first ten minutes. Midleton pressed Kinsale and no matter what Midleton tried the could not get there first. Kinsale on rare moments got out of their own half. With shots hitting the upright, clearance off the line nothing Midleton could do the ball would not cross the line. Well done to Kinsale a very lucky team to come away with all three points. Liam when called upon made two brilliant saves. It was just one of those days when lady luck was with the other team.

Local Cup away to Carrigaline on Wednesday 2nd April 2014
Carrigaline 0 Midleton 6

Midleton U17's travelled to Carrigaline in the cup and knew it was going to be a tough game. This was a strange game with Midlleton slow to get into the game in the first fifteen minutes and it showed Carrigaline pressed Midleton and had a few shots on goal. Midleton got their first before half time when James beat three players to play the ball across the box to Jack for a tap in. The first half ended one nil to Midleton and it showed how hard Carrigaline were working in the first half.

The second half started the same as the first for Midleton slow, and carrigaline were unlucky not to be one all.
Midleton got their second when Aaron made a run down the wing and crossed in a brillant ball only for their defender to head it the wrong way.Now Midleton controlled the game and five minutes later a great run from James and a pass to Conor for Conor to beat three defenders to get his first. Midleton's next goal came from midfield when passed to James and again Conor beat the defender to get his second. With Aaron and Cormac pushing up from the back to support midfield, it left all the clearing up to Ryan and China who protected Liam in goal. The two Dylans on the wings beat Carrigaline's defence to put some great balls in the box. A great pass from Brownie to Conor saw Conor get his hattrick well done to all the lads on a very good performance.

League away to Douglas Hall on Sunday 23rd March 2014
Douglas Hall 2 Midleton 2

Midleton travelled today to Douglas with ten men and gave everything for there team. Midleton started with players playing in positions they dont but gave everything for their team. Midleton took the lead with a great pass from Conor to Dylan who finished first time. Midleton with only ten men were under pressure from the start but could have taken a two goal lead. Douglas got one back and the extra man in midfield started to show. Douglas were then awarded a penaly which Liam saved fantastic goal keeping from Liam in the whole game. Douglas got there reward from a corner when their no5 beat our defenders.

Midleton made changes in the second half with James moving into midfield and Cormac into centre back.
Midleton now dispite only ten men took control of the game and Conor took down a pass from Audry and beat to defenders to make it two all. Midleton came close to winning this game and I think Douglas were the happier when the whistle was blown. Have to say every player today gave everything and what a game these ten men had well done lads great result.

Dylan and Dylan on the wings gave Midleton their width and made Castleview who provided the balls into the box. Conand Brownie working up front made life hell for the Castleview defence. Midleton 4 Ballinhassig 0

Midleton welcomed Ballinhassig to Knockgriffin in the first round of the local cup. With Ballinhassig in a division below Midleton in the league it should have been advantage to Midleton but results have not been going Midleton's way with players missing and injured. Midleton started the game playing with the wind and Ballinhassig never got into the game in the first half. Midleton's first came from a great run down the line from Aaron who drilled the ball across the box and John Looney coming in to finish off a great move from the left back. Our second came from Dyaln who had a great game on the left, Dylan beat two players to send the ball into the box and the ball came off the defender to roll in the back of the net. With Dylan O'Neill playing in behind the striker today and Ballinhassig really struggling to get any thing out of this game, Dylan played a great true ball to Conor who finished first time a great ball and a great finish. Midleton defended so well today  Ballinhassig had no shot on goal from open play and our fourth came Conor who drilled the ball across the box and Jack made no mistake to beat the keeper. Ballinhassig got a life line when there player was taken down in the box and the ref gave a penalty, but they could not beat our keeper Liam in goals today who made two great saves. Well done lads great win roll on round 2.

Midleton kept the pressure on Kinsale and with fifteen minutes gone a brillant ball from Cormac over the Kinsale defenders head to Jaco who lobbed the keeper to see Midleton go 2 nil up. It was not to be Midleton's day as a poor shot back to our keeper Liam missed timed it and let the ball in the back of the net. Two-one and again Midleton made mistakes at the back let Kinsale in and made it 2 -2 all. The one shot on goal from the Kinsale's no9 was their best goal and the at 3-2 Midleton struggled to get back into the game. Kinsale made it 4-2 in the first half.

The second half started well for Midleton with shots from Jack and Conor but their keeper had a great day.

With the hall down to ten men Midleton controlled this game and our first came from a cross from John and Jack made no mistake. Midleton went into half time time one up but in truth should have been three or four up only for the keeper making some great saves to keep Douglas in the game.

The second half saw Audrey on for Conor and Midleton again pressed Douglas but to be fair Douglas did not want to give up this game and played some very good football. Midleton got there second from Dylan as a shot was deflected and Dylan slotted the ball into the bottom corner giving their keeper no chance. At time today the game turned bad with Douglas not happy with the ref and there were a lot of tackles on our players it got quiet rough at times.
