Senior's 2014/15 Match Reports

O'Connell Cup at Home to Douglas Hall on 17th April 2015
Midleton 1
Douglas Hall 3
Midleton started well in this game with a number of changes to the team, had a good first half with Midleton scoring first with a great goal from 35 yards by Andrew Knowles. Douglas Hall hit back early in the second half with two early goals. Midleton found it a bit difficult to deal with the ball in the windy conditions. Their third came from a deflection off Emmet Cotter that wrong footed Adrian in goal. Midleton responded well with some great chances falling to Conor Fitzgerald Jake Hegarty.but it wasnt to be.
Midleton will play their last league match of the season at Home to Avondale in two weeks time. A vital match for the lads to secure their place in the Senior Premier division

League at home to Castleview Utd on 10th April 2015
Midleton 3
Castleview Utd 1
Midleton over came Castleview in the first round of the O Connell cup with goals from Jake Hegarty James Mc Carthy and Micky Ryan. Castleview got one back near the end for the game to finish 3 v 1 A very good team display with lots of chances provided on the day. Midleton will play Douglas Hall in the next round at home.

League away to St Marys on 3rd April 2015
St Marys 2 Midleton 2

After being two down away from home Midleton done brilliant to go and snatch a vital point, Andrew Knowles and Kevin Murray with the all important goals for the magpies. A great second half comeback and performance earned Midleton a deserved point in this crucial league match. Next League match UCC. Next Match V Castleview in the O Connell Cup on Sunday12th April

League away to Avondale Utd on 7th March 2015
Avondale Utd 3 Midleton 2

This game was played at Mayfield Community College All Weather pitch. In windy conditions Midleton were caught cold when Avondale opened the score after only 5 min of play. Midleton settled after a while and started to try and open a few opportunities from Emmet Cotter, Martin Hickey & Kyle Mc Carthy. Avondale were finding more options in front of goal and made in two after 30 min of play. The second half Midleton came out with a new lease of life and started to pile on the pressure on Avondale which paid off in the 54 min when Andrew Knowles scored with a header from 6 yards. Midleton were now very much in control and made it two all when Jake Hegarty scored again with a header from 6 yards on the 66 min. This was great play from Midleton but it was Avondale who hit back with a rare attach and scored the winner with 15 min to go. Midleton again piled on the pressure with some good chances from Mc Carthy, Knowles and Gettings before time was up. The second half was an excellent team performance from Midleton who deserved to get something out of this game.

Munster Senior Cup at Home to Glasheen Utd on 27th February 2015
Midleton 0 Glasheen Utd 1

Midleton went out of the Beamish cup at home to Glasheen Utd when a defensive error with 10 miniutes to go left the Glasheen striker in to score from 12 yards. After Midleton good performances in the last two league wins it was dissapointing to see the team come out second best in this cup tie. Next up is big away match to Intermediate champions Avondale Utd.

League away to Everton on 23rd February 2015
Everton 1 Midleton 2

Midleton travelled away to Everton Park and produced an unbelievable result in atrocious conditions. One would wonder why on earth Everton would play in these conditions, short a few players through suspension the magpies went on and picked up a massive 3pts with goals from captain Ian Maher and David(badger) Williams who made his senior debut today making the big step up from the junior team, well done David great to see another young Midleton player introduced into senior set up,but a big well done to all the players and management, nothing easy about this game and an important league win that will give the team confidence as we approach the second half of the season
Senior Beamish Cup action next week at home to Glasheen.

League at home to College Corinthians on 13th February 2015
Midleton 2
College Corinthians 3
MSL Premier League Midleton 2 v 3 College Corrinthians The away team scored after 5 minutes into the game and Midleton equalised when John Keane scored from a penalty just before half-time. College again scored just after the break to go two one up. Midleton again equalised with a cracking 20 yard strike from Kyle Mc Carthy after good work down the left side from Jamie Stack who delivered a great cross for Kyle.. College scored the winner from a penalty late in the game. Midleton played well enough to get something out of this game playing a team the top of the league there was little between the sides. Next up is Everton in the League.

League away to Castleview United on 5th February 2015
Castleview United 0 Midleton 1

Midleton followed up another good performance with a one nil win over Castleview in the league which closes the gap between teams at the bottom of the league.John Keane scored the all important goal from a penalty. Midleton will play Colege Corrinthians next at home in the league.

Munster Senior Cup at The Farm to UCC on 31st January 2015
UCC 0 Midleton 3

Midleton got back to winning ways with a three nil win over UCC in the first round of the Munster Cup. Never an easy place to get a result, Midleton team really got it together with a good solid performance from start to finish. Goal scorers Andrew Knowles, Stephen O Brien and Conor Fitzgerald

League at home to Carrigaline United on 23rd January 2015
Midleton 1 Carrigaline United
2
Midleton players came away from this match very disappointed after taking the lead early in the game from Richie Gettings. It was Richie first match after transferring from Leeside Club and he made an instant impact scoring early in the match. Carrigaline got back into this game to make it one all and in the last minute a mix up in defence gave Carrigaline the three points. Midleton had done enough in this game to come away with a result and right now the team are not having the rub of the green. Missing a few players the team gave it all with a very determined performance with good attacking play. Midleton will turn to cup football next week when they play UCC in the Senior Cup.

FAI Intermediate Cup at home to Casement Celtic on 26th September 2014
Midleton 2 Casement Celtic
3 AET
Midleton were knocked out of the intermediate cup at home to Casement Celtic. A very good first half with goals from Ian Maher and a great free kick from 35 yards by John Keane put Midleton up 2 nil at half time. But a poor 2nd half performance cost us in this game. A very harsh lesson for everyone involved.
Yes the result was disappointing after an excellent first half which saw Midleton play some lovely football and look very comfortable. Football is a 90 min game and in cup football it takes all kinds of performances to come out on top. Like all games players will replay the game over and over and ask a lot of questions of themselves and the team. It’s a huge test for so many players playing in senior premier league for the first time and yes there will be mistakes but we must learn from them, by understanding our weakness and working hard in training to improve our performance.
It’s a big year for the management team of Stephen Mulcahy, Kevin Murray, John Mallon, Stuart Costigan, Eddie Browne and all the players in the senior, junior and under 19 teams. It’s also a big step up for a number of our young players and exciting to see so many that have come through the club playing on the first team. At present we have a very young squad of talented players but by us all working hard in training and match day we can continue to progress and develop our players and teams further. The future does looks bright with so many promising players who need to adjust to the changes playing 1st team football and step up to the performance required to be a top senior player. Looking forward to our next match

Keane Cup Midleton 2 Kinsale 1
Scorers for Midleton senior team Andrew Knowles who struck in the first half from 20 yards and Conor Fitzgerald scored the winner with a lovely lop over the keeper — at Knockgriffin Park.

League away to Carrigaline United on 12th September 2014
Carrigaline 1 Midleton 0

In a nutshell, Carrigaline took their chance and Midleton didn't. Another very honest and hard working performance from the boys but the ball just would not go into the net. As a team we will take this defeat and learn from it then move onto next weeks fixture with confidence. Hard luck to everyone involved
