Senior's 2013/14 Match Reports

League at home to Bandon on Sunday 18th May 2014
Midleton 8 Bandon 0
Midleton secured there place in the top division again for next year, in unusual circumstances with Bandon only arriving with 8 players, it would have been easy for Midleton to switch off but fair play to magpies for being professional and getting the goals early to put this to bed, Congrats lads and to all involved.
Seniors now have a cup final to look forward too and another potential Beamish cup final if they over come Carrigaline Utd Thursday week in the semi at home in Knockgriffin.

O'Connell Cup Semi Final at to College Corinthians on Saturday 10th May 2014
Midleton 2 College Corinthians 1

Another Final for the Club........... Senior team won 2 v 1 against College Corinthians at Knockgriffin today. Jamie Stack struck early with a lovely strike just outside the box and Andrew Knowles made in two for Midleton at the 25 min mark. College hit one back with 15 min to go but Midleton were by far the better team and deserved their place in the final. Great to see our young players playing a part in the success. Well done guys.

O'Connell Cup at home to Leeds on Thursday 1st May 2014
Midleton 2 Leeds 1

Goals from Shane Geasley and Ian Stack. Midleton have drawn Carragaline Utd at home in the semi final. Well done Lads......

League at home to College Corinthians on Friday 28th March 2014
Midleton 1 College Corinthians 2

Big game for both clubs last night. First half was a very even affair we both making sure no mistakes were evident and keeping it tight. Corinthians did have the better chances in first half but all really half chances. Midleton begun the second half on front foot and got a reward on 75min with a goal of the season contender, worked all the way from own end line with only 3 passes needed between only two players ripped Corinthians apart and James McCarthy supplied a superb ball for Dave Curran to head home to top corner. Reaction from watching support told a lot here. A sucker punch came 5min later when magpies conceded from a soft free kick, game then looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw but with 5min left Corinthians snatched a winner from a very poor referee decision which should have been a free kick to Midleton but never given and Corinthians went clean through and stole all 3pts. Heads up lads more games to come.

League at home to Douglas Hall on Friday 14th March 2014
Midleton 1 Douglas Hall 0
Midleton earned a valuable three points at home to Douglas Hall. In a very tight game when both teams had opportunities to score. Midleton lost keeper Adrian O'Donovan through injury and Steve Mulcahy stepped in the posts for the last 30miniutes making a great save near the end to deny the visitors. Midleton striker Shane Geasley scored the only goal of the game to secure three points in the Premier league.

Keane Cup Semi-Final at home to Everton on Fridat 1st November 2013
Midleton 3 Everton 2 aet

A breathtaking match which went to extra time and a superb winning goal from Dave Stack in the 96th min.
For the first 30 min Everton were the better side and only for a great save from Aidsy we would have being a goal behind, Midleton grew into the game and some great work from Jordan O'Leary winning the ball back when he had no right to, he layed it back for Dave Stack whose shot was well saved by Dean in Everton's goal. From resulting corner which wasnt cleared properly, Dave Stack whipped in another cross which Flemming headed home. 1 up at half time and looking very good Eddie Nolan, Gary Collins and Peter Nolan at the back were having a fine game.

Second half was very even with Emmet O'Hanlon and Dave Curran starting to dominate Ricky getting broke offside trap and finished superbly. 2 up with 10 min to go we started thinking job was done, to be fair Everton never gave up and scored a deserved goal of there own. 2-1 now and a hopeful ball into our back resulted in a scramble which was poked home. Into extra time and the hard work of our forwards payed off Andrew Knowles excellent through out forced Everton back 4 into sloppy play which resulted in ball going to Stacky 30 yards out, he drove straight into box smashing a left foot shot into bottom corner sending the team and bench and supporters wild. It was the wining moment for us and onto final Fri week Nov 15th v Corinthians.

Keane Cup away to Crofton Celtic on Wednesday 9th October 2013
Crofton Celtic 3 Midleton 4

1/4 final keane cup. Went in at half time 1 down but had most of possession just could not score. Started second half sharp and got back in game through a Dave Stack goal from Gettings cross, Dave stack gave us the lead with a free kick, keeper could have done better, 1 min later Dave Stack completed his first hat trick for Midleton. This goal was a powerful run skipping past full back and firing the ball into top corner wonderful strike #tekkers. Kyle Downing who was having a fine game was sent off harshly. Ricky Gettings put 4-1 us, we got sloppy any conceded 2 late goals but were still in control.

Munster Senior Cup away to Bandon on Saturday 5th October 2013
Bandon 3 Midleton 2

Made 6 changes to previous game, giving lads a chance to stake claim for starting place in wed 1/4 final v Crofton. Again we started sloppy and conceded a needless penalty giving away possession cheaply after 4 min, 10 min later another sloppy foul on 15 min resulted in a goal against direct from free kick. Just after half time introduction of Andrew Knowles started us playing and Andrew scored giving us hope as we pushed on Bandon scored again making it 3-1. We missed few chances which should have being scored also Shane Geasley hit the post just before he scored with last kick of game. But in truth after our first half performance we got what we deserved which was nothing.

League at home to Everton on Friday 27th September 2013
Midleton 0 Everton 1

First league of season. Conceded a freak OG after 4 min, from then on totally dominated game missed chance after chance, their keeper was man of the match which says it all really.

Intermediate cup at home to Crosshaven on Friday 20th September 2013
Midleton 4 Crosshaven
1
Could have being a tricky tie but Midleton went about the job in a very aggressive, high pressing and very high tempo, truth is Crosshaven could not live with us. Only down side was only being 1 up at half time. The goal it self was a thing of beauty a great cross by the very impressive Dave Stack found in form striker Andrew Knowles and his header was powerfully planted in top corner. In the first half we hit the post twice and crossbar once through shots from Dave Stack and Kyle Downing.

The tempo and pace at which we played our precise passing from Dave Curran, Gary Collins had Crosshaven always on back foot. We started second half the very same way and again it was Andrew Knowles (5 goals) on the end of a great ball from Emmet O'Hanlon. Emmet himself got on the score sheet with a neat finish from just inside the box after some good build up play on left wing with Dave and Kyle. Crosshaven 1 and only chance came when a deflected header caught out the defenders and striker finished well. Few changes with 24 min to go got us going again and a pin point cross from Ray Barnes was headed home the player manager Anthony Wolfe for his first goal of season. It was a really cynical performance from the lads and next up is Everton next fri in first league game of season.

Keane Cup at home to Leeds on Friday 31st August 2013
Midleton 4 Leeds 1

We went into game knowing we had to win by at least 3 clear goals to force a playoff in Keane cup with Doulgas Hall. Started the game very brightly and scored a deserved goal when Ray Barnes shot from 20 yards into bottom corner. Leeds defended deep and forced us to press high which resulted in 2 quick goals again a long range shot from Peter Nolan finding bottom corner. A sweeping move down left side was finshed off by Ian Stack at back post after great ball by Peter Nolan.

3 nil up and after the break Leeds played with freedom after we sat back holding onto lead, they scored a pen and had few more chances. Finally in last 10 min Andrew knowles hit a unstoppable shot into top corner sealing a 4-1 win as as a result of having scoring 4 goals we advance to 1/4 finals away to Crofton.

Sean Barron, Eddie Nolan(c), Anthony Wolfe, Gary Collins, Kyle Downing, Stacky, Dave Curran, Emmet O'Hanlon, Ray Barnes, Andrew Knowles, Peter Nolan.
Subs - Stephen Bruton for Kyle Downing. There was 7 changes from team which played Douglas Hall.

Keane Cup at home to Douglas Hall on Friday 23rd August 2013
Midleton 1 Douglas Hall 1

After an unbeaten preseason Midleton wanted to continue this run in first competitive game. We started poorly and went behind afer 14 min when failed to deal with cross into box and was headed home by the striker.
At the 30 min mark we grew more confident and started to express ourselves, leading to a fine goal by Dave Stack. Second half was even, fair result.

Challenge at home to Carmarthen Town on Saturday 16th August 2013
Midleton 2 Carmarthen Town 2
We stepped our pre season preparations by playing Carmarthen Town, A semi professional team from Welsh Premier league. It was ideal for us as game was played at very high tempo. We started with 4 3 3 formation, with Dave Stack, Andrew Knowles and Ian Stack leading the attack. It was man of the match Dave Stack who was unplayable at times with his pace power energy and clever runs behind the defence was highlight of the day. We took the lead with a stunning 30 yard strike from Cormac Aherne which took everyone with suprise as it flew past keeper into bottom corner. To be fair Carmarthen were a very good side kept the ball very well and moved us around at times with there slick passing and movement. They scored from a goalmouth scramable. Some great play down right side ended with Emmett O'Halon being brought down inside box from a inch perfect Ian stack cross. Dave Stack slotted home the resulting penalty sending keeper wrong way to lead 2 1. Again the Welsh team came back well and scored again before half time to make it 2 all. The game would finish up 2 all with Welsh team finishing the stronger which would be expected as we still in pre season, but as a whole delighted with performance as a whole.

Team - Aidsy, Eddie Nolan (C), Anthony Wolfe, Pierce Donnaighe, Kyle Downing, Stephen Bruton,
Emmet O' Hanlon, Cormac Aherne, Ian Stack, Andrew Knowles, Dave Stack.

Barry Wall Final at home to Fermoy on Sunday 11th August 2013
Midleton 4 Fermoy 3

On a perfect morning for soccer the final was played after Midleton beat Youghal 2-1 , and Fermoy beat Mayfield 4-0 in the semis on Friday night.
Midleton started poor and were lucky not to be a goal behind, after 20 min we started to play and a great move started by Emmet O'Hanlon he gave a sweeping 30 yard cross field ball to the ever running and wiling Ian Stack, who deliverd a inch perfect cross to Ricky Gettings. His shot was well saved but rebounded off defender into empty net. Midleton went for the kill over next 15 min and got 2 more goals from Ricky Gettings and Andrew Knowles 2 great controlled finishes. Midelton could and should have scored 3 more but poor finishing and good saves kept score down. Just before half time Fermoy scored a good goal.

Midleton started second half really well Dave Stack made great run and pin point cross for Andrew Knowles to finish with style at near post. We made quite a few changes and tempo suffered lack of concentration and match sharpness allowed Fermoy to pull 2 late goals back. All in all a great result for the club winning the Barry Wall for first time in 6 years. Good start to pre season.

Team - aidsy, eddie nolan (c), wolfie, gaz, peter,  ian, mucky, emmet, stacky, knowlesy, gettins.
