Under 16 Girls 2012/13 Division 1 Match Reports

League away to Carrigaline United on Tuesday 30th April 2013
Carrigaline United 1 Midleton 1

Midleton U 16 girls played their last game of the season against Carrigaline on Tuesday. This was a great competitive game with nothing dividing the teams. Carrigaline took the lead when they were awarded a penalty.
The game ended in a one all draw with Chloe Horgan who was playing up front found the back of the net when the Carrigaline keeper failed to gather the ball.
Well done girls and we look forward to next season.

League at home to Passage on thursday 11th April 2013
Midleton 2 Passage 2
Passage travelled to Midleton last Thursday to play the first game of the U16 play offs and this was a game that did not disappoint. The game was a thriller from the start with the tall Emma Harrington from Passage making runs at the Midleton defense and kept Charley Moore very busy on the right wing. Passage started off the better and within ten minutes Clionadh Fahy  scored a goal after a long ball was sent through and Maebh Hennessy who had a fantastic game was unlucky not to save the shot. Midleton battled hard with Amanda Bennett, Ines Rosa and Dolapo Bello playing great defensive football. Clionadh Falvey from Passage broke free again and another long ball forward saw her score her second goal.  he first half ended 2 nil to Passage West.

The second half saw Midleton fight hard and play some great football. Ella Morrissey was impressive and along with Megan O'Regan, Chloe Sigerson they started to feed caitlin Ryan and Courtney Histon up front who had some great shots saved. Chloe Sigerson won herself a penalty and calmly stepped up and scored. Two minutes later caitlin Ryan got onto the end of an amy benaim cross and made it 2 all. The game was tied and both teams played their hearts out with Midleton narrowly missing in the last minute. A well deserved draw.

League at home to Kinsale on Sunday 13th January 2013
Midleton 1 Kinsale 0

Midleton U16 girls captained by Ella Morrissey remain unbeaten this season following a tough heart stopping again against Kinsale on Sunday. The game started with Kinsale applying all the pressure and the Midleton defence of Ines Rosa, Dolapo Bello, Amanda Bennett and Charley Moore had to work really smartly and skilfully to counteract the fast skilful Kinsale forwards. The game was played at an intense pace and with both goalkeepers needing to work really hard and Maebh Hennessy pulled off some terrific saves to keep the skilful Sadhbh O’Leary of Kinsale from scoring. The Midleton midfield of Amy Benaim, Megan O’Regan, Aoife O’Sullivan and Ella Morrissey fought hard and kept pressing forward with Chloe Sigerson and Charlie Whelan unlucky not to score. Midleton finally scored following a great run up the wing by Amy Benaim who passed the ball to Ella Morrissey who scored.

The second half was thrilling with both teams working hard and both goalkeepers having to play their best. Chloe Horgan in goal for Midleton had to work really hard and pulled off some magnificent saves from shots by Katie Wall and Sadhbh O’Leary of Kinsale. The play was end to end with Oral Murphy and Dionne Carroll coming on with fresh legs to apply the pressure and both players were excellent in their efforts. The game ended with a Midleton victory. Well done girls, a truly entertaining game.

League away to Park United
Midleton 4 Park United 1

Midleton U16 girls continue their unbeaten record with a great win to kick start 2013. The girls captained by Ella Morrissey travelled to Mitchelstown knowing that they needed to win to ensure they remain top of the league table.
This was a thrilling game. The Midleton girls started well and took control of the game, but the Park Utd girls were always a threat. However the Midleton girls were more organised on the pitch and worked well as a unit. The back line of Ines Rosa, Amanda Bennett, Dolapo Bello and Charley Moore soon made their mark as Park Utd were playing the long ball forward and the back line noted this and hence took even more control of the game. Chloe Sigerson and Caitlin Ryan up front were applying the pressure from early on as the midleton midfield took control of the game and were able to get the ball forward quickly and our efforts paid off with Chloe Sigerson scoring the first goal of the season. Park Utd fought back and indeed this was a very physical game with both Ella Morrissey and Megan O’Regan battling hard for every ball. Chloe Horgan in goal made some excellent saves. Midleton second goal came from a great run of play up the right wing from Charley Moore and Amy Benaim, with Amy dribbling around Park Utd defenders to pass to Caitlin Ryan who scored. Midleton continued to apply the pressure up front with Orla Murphy and Courtney Histon continually running at the Park Utd defence and an error from the Park Utd central defender led to an own goal. The first half ended with Midleton 3 nill up.

The second half started with Park Utd applying all the pressure and the midleton back line had to work hard. Great play from Aoife O’Sullivan and Ines Rosa kept the Park Utd players from pressing forward. Charlie Whelan came on to continue the fressure up front and made an impact straight away and her hard work paid off with a great goal scored from outside the box, her first goal for Midelton. The second half continued at a fast pace and both teams gave great performances. Maebh Hennessy in goal for the second half made some excellent saves and the consolation goal for park utd came when a shot took a deflection. Well done to all the girls and especially to megan O’Regan who was player of the match. Next game is V Kinsale Sunday 13th January at home.

Midleton U16 girls captained by Caitlin Ryan travelled to Passage West on Sunday and played out a thrilling 1 - 1 draw. This game was so exciting with nothing dividing the teams. The first half ended with no score with Chloe Horgan in goal showing her class as she made some great saves from the ever dangerous Passage west forwards.

The second half was just as good with both teams playing their hearts out. Orla Murphy gave Midleton the lead midway through with a great strike, however the lead was short as Passage West responded with a fast break and won a corner which was deflected in by one of the Passage forwards.

League at home to Glounthuane on Sunday 14th October 2012
Midleton 6 Glounthuane 1
This local derby was truly a great game and the score line certainly does not reflect the intensity of the game. Glounthuane travelled to Midleton with a depleted squad due to injury and other commitments. This was a fast paced game and the Midleton girls applied the pressure from the kick off with Amy Benaim, Caitlin Ryan and Ella Morrissey forcing Glountahunes' Nicole Cashman in goal to pull off some fantastic saves. Amy Benaim finally hit the back of the net after great link up play with Megan O Regan. Caitlin Ryan was on fire today and it was not long until she found the net. Mid way through the half the Midleton girls were definitely on top but Glounthuane settled into the game with Aoife O'Brien making some great runs forcing Chloe Horgan in goal for Midleton to make some super saves. Aoife O'Sullivan played a fantastic game for Midleton, and made some great runs along with Charley Moore and great teamwork and link up play saw Chloe Sigerson volley the ball to score Midletons 3rd. Midletons' 4th goal was scored by Caitlin Ryan as the first half ended.

Glounthuane started the second half rejuvenated and with the talented Nicole Cashman playing outfield the Glounthuane girls took the game to Midleton. Glounthuane's Aoife O'Brien, Chloe Casey and Carol O'Donoghue were fantastic and really brought the game to Midleton. Orla Murphy, Amy Benaim and Caitlin Ryan kept applying the pressure and it finally paid off with Caitlin Ryan hitting her hat trick and Amy Benaim getting a well deserved second goal. Glountahuane did not give up and a goal by Gill Sexton was well deserved. The game ended 6 - 1 to Midleton. Well done to all the girls from both teams.

Midelton: Ella Morrissey (capt), Chloe Horgan, Danielle O'Donoghue, Ines Rosa, Dionne Carroll, Amanda Bennett, Charley Moore, Una O'Sullivan, Dolapo Bello, Aoife O'Sullivan, Caitlin Ryan, Chloe Sigerson, Megan O'Regan, Orla Murphy, Amy Benaim.

League at home to Carrigaline United on Sunday 16th September 2012
Midleton 4 Carrigaline Utd 0

Midleton U16 girls started the season with a 4 nil win over Carrigaline Utd.
The Midleton girls started off the game at a very fast pace with Amy Benaim and Caitlin Ryan applying pressure on the Carrigaline defence from the kick off and won a corner after five minutes. Ella Morrissey curled the ball in from the corner spot putting the Midleton girls one goal up. This goal gave the Midleton girls great confidence and great play form Orla Murphy, Dolapo Bello and Aoife O Sullivan in the mid field kept the play in the Carrigaline half with the Carrigaline keeper Roisin O'Donnell pulling off some great saves but some great passing playing between Amy Benaim and Caitlin Ryan saw Caitlin score Midleton's second goal. Carrigaline's Christina Dring and Lauren O'Brien were always dangerous on the break and great defensive work from Charley Moore, Ines Rosa, Una O'Sullivan and Amanda Bennett kept Carrigaline at bay. Another great break from Amy Benaim and Dolapo Bello saw Dolapo take a shot from outside the box that took a deflection from a Carrigaline defender giving Midleton a 3 nil lead at half time.

Carrigaline started off strongly in the second half with Eimear Drummond and Lauren O'Brien forcing Chloe Horgan in goal to pull off some great saves. The Midleton girls responded with great play with Aoife O'Sullivan making great runs on the wing and Ines Rosa and Amanda Bennett breaking forward from the back line and Amy again going on some great runs that saw her hit the post twice and Carrigaline Belen de Luis in goal pull off some great saves. Midleton kept the pressure on and a poor clearance saw Amanda Bennett take a shot from outside the box which was just beyond the reach of de Luis. The game ended with the Midleton girls winning 4 nil. Well done to both teams for a entertaining match.

Team - Orla Murphy, Ella Morrissey, Chloe Horgan, Caitlin Ryan, Ines Rosa, Una O Sulliva, Amanda Bennett, Dolapo Bennett, Charley Moore, Aoife O'Sullivan, Amy Benaim.
