Under-16 Girls 2011/12 Match Reports

League at home to Glounthaune United on Wednesday 29th March
Midleton 5 Glounthaune United 3

This local derby was indeed a great game. This was the second time the two teams have met this season with Glounthaune coming out on top the first time around. The game started at an electric pace with Taylor Kruschel taking control in midfield and feeding the front players and within minutes Midleton won a corner and a Glounthuane attempted to clear the ball resulting in an own goal. This gave the Midleton girls confidence and after 10 minutes Chloe Sigerson had scored Midletons second. Glounthaune however were settling into the game and both Nicole Cashman and Moira Morrisey were a constant threat, but great defensive play by Amanda Bennett, Ines Rosa, Una O'Sullivan and Kate Noonan kept both players at bay. Taylor Kruschel then scored again for Midleton, followed quickly by a well deserved goal from Ella Morrissey. Glounthaune fought back and Moira Morrisey scored just before the half time whistle.

The second half started with Glountahune making a few defensive changes and substitutions and they piled on the pressure, with Nicole Cashman and Moira Morrissey dangerous on the break and this pressure resulted in two quick goals with the score at 4 - 3, and the game was on a knife edge. Midleton battled hard and Taylor Kruschel scored a magnificant long range goal to put the Midleton girls 5 - 3 up with ten minutes to go. The game finished 5 - 3. Well done to the Midleton girls for a great win.

TEAM: Kate Noonan (capt), Maebh Hennessy, Amanda Bennett, Una O'Sullivan, Ines Rosa, Dolapo Bello, Megan O'Regan, Caitlin Ryan, Chloe Sigerson, Aoife Flynn, Ella Morrissey, Emma Murphy, Taylor Kruschel, Sarah Brouder, Charley Moore, Danielle O'Donoghue.

Midleton 3 Bandon 2

Midleton U16 girls advance to the semi-final of the U16 cup after a hard fought battle v Bandon. Congratulations to the Midleton girls who all played exceptionally well and deserved this victory.
All three goals were scored by an on form Caitlin Ryan. Well done girls.

League at home to Douglas Hall
Midleton 1 Douglas Hall 0

The Midleton U16 girls got 2012 off to a great start with a terrific win over Douglas Hall in a thrilling match. The game started off at a very fast intense pace with Douglas Hall dominating the game for the first 10 minutes and 2 fantastic saves from Maebh Hennessy in goal kept Midleton in the game and the Midleton girls soon settled into this fast intense game. The back 4 of Rebecca O'Sullivan, Ines Rosa, Una O'Sullivan and Amanda Bennett were flawless with some great defensive play. The midfield duo of Cassie Tynan and Megan O'Regan were outstanding and Cassie Tynan was dominant in this position and had some great link up play with Taylor Kruschel and Ella Morrissey up front. Orla Murphy was outstanding on the left wing using her skill and strength to pressurize the Douglas defence as was Dolapo Bello on the right wing. The score at half time was nil all.

The second half started off as intensely as the first with both teams making great breaks and after 5 minutes Taylor Kruschel made a great break and calmly sidestepped the Douglas keeper to put the Midleton girls in front. Douglas Hall fought back with some great attacking football and Maebh Hennessy again made some terrific saves to keep Douglas from scoring. The final whistle could not come soon enough, a fantastic result for the Midleton girls.
Well done girls.

Cup away to Riverstown
Midleton 7 Riverstown 0

Midleton U16 girls travelled to Riverstown in the opening round of the U16 Evening Echo cup, and to be fair to the Riverstown team, the score line does not reflect the great game they had against an on form Midleton side.

The first half was an even sided game with both teams making breaks but the Midleton midfield of Cassie Tynan and Megan O'Regan proved too strong and were able to provide Taylor Kruschel and Chloe Sigerson with plenty of oppurtunities, with Taylor Kruschel scoring twice and both girls had many shots saved by Jennie Stacey the Riverstown keeper. The first half ended with Midleton leading 2 nil.

The second half saw the Midleton girls pick up a gear and Midleton's Amanda Bennet had a flawless game as sweeper to tidy up in the back line to feed the midfield who then unleashed Chloe Sigerson and Taylor Kruschel who between them scored another 5 goals.

Well done to the Midleton girls but special mention also to Aoife O'Brien, Maeve O'Roirdan, Roisin O'Donovan and Jessica Memhet from Riverstown who played exceptionally well.
