Under 14 Girls 2014/15 Premier Division Match Reports

League Away v Riverstown on Tuesday 28th April 2015
Riverstown 3 Midleton 0

Last game of a testing but enjoyable season. Away to Riverstown on a night of strong wind and a rock hard pitch made it difficult to get into our normal passing game. They started with the wind at their backs and put us under pressure from the beginning and took the lead after only 5minutes with a delightful lob giving Shauna no chance. With Catherine, Lauren and the two Ashlings at the back we kept them at bay for the remainder of the first half and did well in the middle where Sadhbh,Zara, Niamh and Aoife(Capt) working hard in defence and attack. Upfront Shannon and Clodagh worked off scraps in that first half with Shannon making some great runs down the right wing and going close on one occasion from distance.

Second half and Lucy,Rachel and Roisin joined the action in midfield and up front. We pressed for the equaliser but shots from distance by Zara, Shannon and a free from Lauren were well dealt with by the Riverstown keeper. Then midway through the half they broke for a second. At this stage Doireann and Andy had joined the action but as much as the girls tried nothing seemed to work out and then as we went for broke they managed a third. All in all not our greatest night but thanks to all the girls for the great commitment they have show this season and I hope they have all enjoyed the season as much as Paudie and I have.

Team:Shauna Horgan, Catherine Walsh, Ashling Murphy, Aisling Harty, Lauren Linehan, Sadhbh Beausang, Zara Bowles, Niamh Molloy, Aoife Mitchell, Shannon Cremin, Clodagh Mulhare, Lucy Horgan, Roisin O Brien, Rachel O Sullivan, Andrea Cuthbert, Doireann Conway, Ellen Harty

League Away v Hollyhill on Tuesday 14th April 2015
Hollyhill 1 Midleton 1

After such a wonderful performance on Sunday in Limerick this was always going to be a big test for the girls away to Hollyhill. But to be fair the first half in particular was probably the best football they played all year. The over lapping full backs Lauren and Catherine really caused them all sorts of problems and was a pleasure to watch. Niamh was a real solid performer in midfield allowing her colleagues Roisin,Zara and Aoife to link up with Shannon and Clodagh at every opportunity. It only took 10 minutes to take the lead, a simple move performed perfectly Aoife to Zara and onto Shannon who's first time pass behind their defence was run onto by Clodagh who rounded their keeper and cooly finished with her left foot. Several other chances came and went in the first half, the best an effort by Shannon which went just wide of the right post. Ashling Harty and Ashling Murphy looked really good in the centre of defence and Shauna rock solid as ever.Ellen came in for Ashling Harty and a few moves were made in positions. Half time 1-0.

Second half and more the same, good football and great movement off the ball. Hollyhill did come more onto it and a classic finish by Lauren Singleton got them back level mid way through but it continued from end to end and their keeper made a great save at Shannons feet before they were awarded a dubious penalty and justice was done as they blow it over the bar.More chances came before the end as Lucy and Ellie joined the action but final score was 1-1 after a very entertaining game.

Team:Shauna Horgan, Niamh Molloy, Ashling Murphy, Ashling Harty, Catherine Walsh, Lauren Linehan, Aoife Mitchell, Zara Bowles, Roisin O Brien, Shannon Cremin. Clodagh Mulhare, Ellen Harty, Lucy Horgan, Ellie McKenzie

Local Cup Away v Ballingarry on Sunday 12th April 2015
Ballingarry 4 Midleton 3

The game started in near perfect conditions in Ballingarry Co Limerick and home side got the ideal start when they took the lead after only 5 minutes. But as so often this season it was not going to stop our girls and we started to play some excellent football especially down the right with Sadhbh(Capt), Aoife, Shannon and Clodagh combining time and again to great effect. In the end a corner from such a move which was sweetly stuck by Shannon forced an equaliser. This was our best period of play with Zara, Ashling Harty and Roisin playing well in the middle and the defence of Niamh, Ashling Murphy and Catherine working well along side Shauna in goals who was having another very solid performance. Then just before the break they managed to squeeze one in from the right wing.

Second half and again a perfect start for the home side to take 3-1 lead but this just forced our girls to dig deeper and with Ellen joining the action this is what they did. A strong free kick from Shannon forced a save from their keeper but the in rushing Zara finished to make it 3-2 and then with 10 minutes to go another great strike from a Shannon free kick flew into the roof of the net, 3-3 and all to play for. Then with only minutes remaining Ballingarry got the all important goal which proved to be the winner. Many thanks for the reception we received and good luck to them against neighbours Newcastlewest in the semi final.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Ashling Murphy, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Sadhbh Beausang(Capt),Zara Bowles, Aoife Mitchell, Aisling Harty, Roisin O Brien, Shannon Cremin, Clodagh Mulhare, Ellen Harty, Lucy Horgan, Ellie McKenzie, Lauren Linehan.

Local Cup Away v Nenagh on Saturday 28th March 2015
Nenagh 0 Midleton 1

After a long trip and warm welcome this proved to be a very entertaining and close game right to the end. Starting with Sadhbh, Ashling, Niamh and Lauren across the back it was going to be a tough half because of the strong wind. Shauna had her defence well marshalled and her kickouts were very solid. With a hard working midfield of Zara, Ellen, Aoife and Roisin they were restricted to very few chances and on the break we were dangerous when Shannon and Clodagh got them running back to their goals. In the end it was one of these moves that broke the deadlock when just before half time a strong run down the right wing which won a corner. From the corner Shannon played a one-two with Lauren before crossing over their keeper to the back post were Aoife and Roisin battled to finish it to the back of the net with Roisin getting the final touch. Perfect end to a hard fought first half.

Second half with the wind at our backs and the girls pushed really hard to find another goal. Shannon, Clodagh, Roisin and even Ashling all had efforts. Shannons left foot strike from the edge of the box being the pick of them. Their keeper stood firm to a number of attempts as we entered the final quarter. Lucy, Andy and Ellie joined the game to relieve some tired legs and continued the work rate of their teammates to the end. Nenagh did go close near the end but Shauna held her ground for a clean sheet and an enjoyable victory. Next up is another away trip to Limerick side Ballingarry next month in the quarter finals. Well done to all and thanks to Nenagh for a wonderful welcome and the spread they put on for us all after the game was much appreciated.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Ashling Harty(Capt), Niamh Molloy, Sadhbh Beausang, Lauren Linehan, Roisin O Brien, Zara Bowles, Shannon Cremin, Aoife Mitchell, Clodagh Mulhare, Ellen Harty, Lucy Horgan, Andrea Cathcart, Ellie McKenzie.

Local Cup Away v Passage on Tuesday 17th March 2015
Passage 3 Midleton 2

On a lovely St Patrick's morning we travelled to Passage for a cup quarter final. Passage are riding high in the first division and were always going to be a difficult opponents. We started well and found ourselves one up when Clodagh took on their defence and beat two defenders before calmly putting the ball pass their keeper. They gave as good as they got in a very sporting game and Passage were level after Shauna had made a very good save and the onrushing forward finished the rebound. Ashling Harty, Niamh, Sadhbh and Ashling Murphy had a difficult task but coped well overall. Lauren, Roisin, Zara and Catherine did well in the middle, and Shannon was a handful when she got the ball. Rachel came o to play her part also.
Second half was no different and it was end to end stuff from both sides. Shannon then made a strong run from the right side of midfield and went all the way, finishing well to the delight of all her teammates. Andy, Lucy and Ellen joined the game and did well. Passage were not finished yet and with only two minutes on the clock they forced the ball home to take the game to extra time.
Extra time and just like our U12s last week it proved to be a disappointment. Doireann joined the action up front before Clodagh returned to the action. Mid way through the second period they managed to score as a ball cleared by our defence was finished well to the corner. Our girls never gave up and were unlucky not to take it to penalties. Best of luck to Passage in the semi-final.
TEAM:Shauna Horgan, Ashling Harty, Ashling Murphy, Sadhbh Beausang, Roisin O Brien, Zara Bowles, Catherine Walsh, Lauren Linehan, Shannon Cremin, Clodagh Mulhare, Niamh Molloy, Lucy Horgan, Andrea Cutbert, Doireann Conway, Ellen Harty, Rachel O Sullivan

League at home v Lakewood on Saturday 28th February 2015
Midleton 2
Lakewood 2
The girls have been waiting a few months for this game to come round. Last time out they left themselves down a little, as they were heavily beaten 6-0. This time out they had something to prove to themselves. The day was windy and damp but both sides played some very entertaining football. Lakewood had the better of the early exchanges but our defence of Sadhbh, Catherine (Capt), Ashling Harty and Ashling Murphy stood firm and the couple of times they did get past Shauna was really on top of her game. Going forward on both wings Lauren and Aoife were causing them problems as were Shannon and Clodagh who tried hard to combine for a breakthrough. Zara worked really hard in what proved to be a very tough encounter. Niamh did really well on their play maker and they were never really in a position to score.
Half time and the girls were very pleased with how they were performing. Ellen came on and did a super job in the middle of the field. But only minutes into the second half disaster struck, Lakewood took the lead after a move down the right saw them win a soft free, they worked the ball into the middle where after an initial save from Shauna they followed up to score. From here on it was very open and we had a great attempt when Ashling Harty got herself up after being up ended outside the box and almost scored. They then got their own free kick 30m from our goal and it was a sweet strike which flew into the roof of our net. To credit our girls we told them before hand to be proud and never stop believing and this they did. Lucy, Roisin, Rachel and Andrea came on and they continued to work as hard as their teammates had. Lakewood went close on a couple of occasions when the crossbar came to our rescue but then as Ashling Harty was again fouled on the edge of the area up stepped Lauren and sweet as you like she calmly floated the ball over their wall and into the bottom right hand corner. So with minutes to play it was all to play for. Shannon attacked again and again down the right and won several corners which we looked very dangerous from and in the end it was one of these attacks deep into injury time which fell again to Lauren who cleverly lobbed the ball over their keeper and into the Lakewood goal. And boy did the girls celebrate, it was like winning the cup final for these girls. After all their effort they had got their reward and they celebrated some more as the referee blow full time just after the restart. They have now put themselves in a position to play for the league runners up spot.

Team:Shauna Horgan, Ashling Murphy, Ashling Harty, Catherine Walsh (Capt), Sadhbh Beausang, Zara Bowles, Niamh Molloy, Aoife Mitchell, Lauren Linehan, Shannon Cremin, Clodagh Mulhare, Andrea Cuthbert, Lucy Horgan, Ellen Harty, Roisin O Brien, Rachel O Sullivan

League at home v Carrigaline on Saturday 31st January 2015
Midleton 0
Carrigaline 2
On what must have been the coldest day of the year to play football this top of the table clash which meant so much to both teams served up a very competitive fixture from start to finish. We started very solid with Shauna in goals and Catherine, Aisling Murphy, Niamh and Sadhbh across the back and Clodagh, Zahra, Aisling Hardy and Lauren in midfield. Carrigaline were physically bigger that us but we battled for ever ball and played some lovely attacking football when we had a chance to. Shannon, Aoife, Zara and Clodagh combined well down the right in particular and often supported by Sadhbh on attacks. We rode our luck a couple of times and Shauna was particularly impressive in goals.
Second half and it continued to be neck a display neck. Rachel joined the action after Shannon took a heavy knock on her knee and needed some rest but with about 15 minutes remaining Carrigaline finally broke the deadlock. Our girls reacted very well and worked hard to get an equaliser but then with only minutes left they broke and scored the killer second goal. Carrigaline now go top of the table and look good with 3 games remaining in the league.
Team, Shauna Horgan, Ashling Murphy, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Sadhbh Beausang, Lauren Linehan, Zara Bowles, Ashling Harty, Clodagh Mulhare, Aoife Mitchell, Shannon Cremin, Rachel O Sullivan, Lucy Horgan, Fiona Hourigan.

Local Cup at Knockgriffin v Richmond on Saturday 17th January 2015
Midleton 6
Richmond 1
First game in quite a while and we got off to a flier when Shannon cut in from the left and scored at the second attempt after their keeper saved the first attempt. And then within minutes she had her second and completed her hat-trick minutes later with a fine Finnish to the roof of their net. Nice to get a hat trick anytime but on your birthday it's even better. The girls were playing very well with chances being created from all involved. Aoife and Andy went very close to scoring after very good play from Zara, Roisin and Ellen. When called on the defence of Sadhbh, Catherine, Ashling and Lauren handled everything they had. Doireann and Rachel also joined the action early to play their part and did very well.
Second half and more of the same when Shannon broke straight through the middle of their defence and calmly passed the ball past the on rushing keeper. Next up it was Aoife to get her name on the score sheet and it was well deserved for all her hard work. Credit to Richmond they never stopped trying even after they were reduced to 10 players when their keeper had to go off due to illness and they got their reward when they scored against Lauren who had replaced Shauna in goals. The final goal of the game came after good work from Andy, Doireann, and Aoife ended with the ball falling to Catherine who finished with a superb shot. Not bad for our centre back who had moved up into midfield for the later stage of the game.
Team:Shauna Horgan, Sadhbh Beausang, Catherine Walsh, Ashling Murphy, Lauren Linehan, Shannon Cremin, Zara Bowles, Ellen Harty, Roisin O Brien, Andy Cuthbert, Aoife Mitchel, Doireann Conway, Rachel O Sullivan.

League at Lakewood V Lakewood on Saturday 8th November 2014
Lakewood 6 Midleton 0

This was a game best forgotten but still a lot to be learned from it.We knew it would be difficult as they had scored 20 goals in their last 2 games but we started well and took the game to them.Chances came at both ends but Shauna was playing very well in goals and kept it all square. Chances at the other end fell to Shannon and Ashling Harty and Sarah with a header from a free. Then they got their breakthrough goal and followed it 10minuses later with a long range shot to the roof of the net. 2 down but well in the game.Second half and again we pressed them back but on their first break they won a corner and from the kick they got a touch to flick it to the back of our net.Heads dropped after this and the rest of the game was a struggle to say the least but everyone played their part in a game I m sure they would all love to start from scratch again.

Team:Shauna Horgan, Lauren Linehan(Capt), Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Ashling Murphy, Ashling Harty, Zara Bowles,Shannon Cremin, Aoife Mitchell, Clodagh Mulhare, Sarah Whelan, Andrea Cuthbert, Lucy Horgan, Ellen Harty, Sadhbh Beausang, Rachel O Sullivan.

League v Hollyhill on Saturday 25th October 2014
Midleton 2
Hollyhill 0
Having never beatten Hollyhil this was always going to be a big challenge but the girls were up for it after beating Carrigaline last time out. When Niamh won the toss she choose to play with wind advantage and it helped us dominate the early exchanges but without any clear cut chances. As the half went on we started to open them up a little and some nice football down the left wing between Lauren and Ashling almost created an opening. Further good football through the middle by Shannon and Sarah put Shannon in and as she rounded their keeper the ball ran away from her and wide before she could get it into the empty net. Our defence was solid and Shauna had little to do in goals. Ashling Murphy stopped their most dangerous attacks down her wing and Niamh and Catherine were rock solid in the middle. Zara and Ellen worked really hard to create chances but at half time it was still 0-0 but we deserved more.

Second half and Sadhbh came on up front and Sarah moved to midfield were she had a big influence on the game. More and more chances were being made specially down the right wing between Clodagh and Shannon. Shannon had a shot come back of the post before another sweeping move between Sarah, Clodagh and Shannon ended with a deep cross which Lauren expertly controlled before finishing to the back of the net. A second followed within 10 minutes to secure the result from a similar move. Fiona Roisin Rachel and Lucy and joined the action to play their parts and in the end a well deserved win.

Team : Shauna Horgan, Ashling Murphy, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Lauren Linehan, Clodagh Mulhare   Ellen Harty, Ashling Harty, Zara Bowles, Shannon Cremin, Sarah Whelan, Lucy Horgan, Sadhbh Beausang, Fiona Hourigan, Roisin O Brien, Rachel O Sullivan.

League at Carrigaline V Carrigaline on Sunday 11th October 2014
Carrigaline 2 Midleton 3
First away trip of the season and no tougher then Carrigaline. We started very well right from Shauna in goals to Sarah up front on her own. Some lovely football was played and cutting holes in their defence. Then a perfect move involving Sarah controlling Shaunas kick out and turning to pass the ball in behind their defence for the on rushing Shannon who took the ball on and finished to put us one up. Then after 20 minutes another quality move involving several girls passing and finally Shannon was put through again and finished perfectly to make it 2-0. Then Carrigaline forced a break and managed to squeeze it past Shauna. This didn\'t stop our girls and a super move involving Aoife,Lauren and Shannon ended with a chance for Sarah and she finished with a perfect lob to the roof of their net.
Second half and it was when Carrigaline came into their own and so did our defence.Aisling Murphy,Catherine, Lauren and Niamh were brilliant and Ellen and Ashling Harty along with Zara,Shannon and Aoife worked their hardest as did Andi, Rachel and Doireann when called on. Carrigaline did manage a few chances and got one but in the end our girls held on for a great victory and have shown they will be a force to be reckoned with in the premier division.
Team:Shauna Horgan, Lauren Linehan, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Molloy, Ashling Murphy, Ashling Harty, Zara Bowles, Shannon Cremin, Aoife Mitchell, Ellen Harty, Sarah Whelan, Doireann Conway, Andi Cuthbert, Rachel O Sullivan, Fiona Hourigan

27th Septemeber
First game of a new season and the girls first taste of Premier Division soccer. To be honest it could not have started better as some lovely one touch football between Aoife and Shannon ended with Shannon being upended in the box and a penalty awarded.Sarah stepped up to calmly dispatch the penalty. One up after only 3 minutes and some lovely football being played. Across the back Ashling Murphy,Aisling Harty, Niamh and Lauren were very solid and Shauna dealt well with anything she needed to.Zara and Clodagh playing her first game for us worked very well to create chances for us. Then from a corner on the left the ball deflected off one of our defenders and into the goals for the equaliser. One all at half time and all to play for.
Some fresh legs at half time as Lucy came on for Ellen who was very impressive in the first half and Roisin came in for the debutant Clodagh. This time the start was poor and some defensive mistakes allowed them in for a soft second goal.Rachel came on for her first U14 game and also did very well on the right side.Chances fell to Shannon and Sarah which their keeper covered well.It was another run by Shannon which their keeper saved that allowed Sarah following up to score the second on the rebound. It was well deserved and a draw was probably fair but we certainly could have got the win with a small bit of luck.A big thank you to all the girls that came straight from the county camoige semi final with Castlemartyr which they lost by just one point.Ye all did yourselfs proud in both games.
Team:Shauna Horgan,Lauren Linehan, Niamh Molloy,Ashling Murphy,Ashling Harty,Ellen Harty,Shannon Cremin, Zara Bowles,Aoife Mitchell,Clodagh Mulhare,Sarah Whelan,Lucy Horgan,Roisin O Brien,Rachel O Sullivan.
