Under-12 Girls 2011/12 Match Reports

League at home to Lakewood on Saturday 28th April 2012
Lakewood 3 Midleton 0

Second last game of the season and the girls were up against a very strong Lakewood side. Starting without top score Courtney and with Shannon unavailable made it an uphill challenge. The game started flowing from end to end but Lakewood began to take control as the half progressed. Shauna keep up her recent good performances in goal and with great assistance from Dianna,Susan and Aishat at the back we managed to keep them scoreless at half time. Good work by Catherine on the right wing for this game almost put us in on goal. Lauren and Rose worked hard to stop Lakewood attacks and try to set up our own attacks.Niamh who was Captain for the day was helped by Aishling and also Eabha, Sarah, Ellen and Lucy came on this do their bit for the team.

Half time and still nil all. The second half put us under more pressure as Lakewood had the assistance of the breeze and when the ball broke after a corner the attacking Lakewood defender hit a rocket of a shot to the roof of our net. The girls started to show some tired legs but continued to do their best. The game ended 3-0 but great credit to all the girls for their effort.

Team- Lauren Linehan, Niamh Molloy, Shauna Horgan, Lucy Horgan, Catherine Walsh, Aishat Oniligbo,
Ellen Harty, Aishling Harty, Sarah Collins, Eabha Collins, Rose Goggin, Susan Roche, Dianna Browne.

League at home to Wilton on Saturday 21st April 2012
Midleton 1 Wilton 4

Another tough fixture, but it must be said that the girls really did themselves proud. We started with a smaller squad then usual but every girl played a huge part in making it a much better game then the final scoreline suggests. The girls for the 3rd game in a row found themselves a goal down in the first 5minutes, but again they dug deep and a great move involving Niamh and Aishling down the right wing ended with a cross to Lauren which she finished from outside the box. It has to be said to be one of the best goals we have seen all season. Shannon and Lauren combined very well to create another great chance which was blocked by the Wilton defender. We asked Rose to give up her normal game to mark the girl we feared most and boy did she do that. She worked so hard to mark a girl who was physically much bigger and stronger then her. Rose really put her body on the line for her team and it was so appreciated by all her team-mates. She did such a good job that her marked became very frustrated and resorted to fouling her. Unfortunately the referee didn t see all of what happened and Rose had to endure more then what she should for her team. The score remained 1 all at half time with Shauna having an outstanding game in goals and her defence of Catherine,Kate and Captain Dianna working really to stop the Wilton attacks. Kate, Aishling and Niamh did really well on several occasions up the right wing to create chances and close down Wilton attacks.

The second half started as so many have in the last few weeks and again we found ourselves down again. Rose continued to frustrate their key player and the referee did little to help her. Then Lauren hurt her ankle and had to be replaced by Sarah, Eabha also came on to give Niamh a rest from all her hard work up front. Shannon continued to cause problems for Wilton and was at the receiving end of Wiltons frustation being fouled close to goal. The game finished 4-1 but it was a much better performance then the score would suggest.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Dianna Browne(Capt), Catherine Walsh, Kate Dineen, Shannon Cremin,
Lauren Linehan, Rose Goggin, Aishling Murphy, Niamh Molloy, Sarah Collins, Eabha Collins, Lucy Horgan.

League at home to St Mary's on Tuesday 3rd April 2012
Midleton 1 St Mary's 5

For the second game in a row we started slow and found ourselves a goal down very early in the game. Then we settled and Lauren scored another goal to add to her tally for the season. Unfortunately we found ourselves 2-1 down before half time. On what must have been the coldest night of the year, not only did the girls feel the cold, all the mammys ran for cover into the relative warmt of the dug out. I never knew so many people could fit into that dug-out.
The second half proved difficult but credit to Niamh for taking up the goalkeeping duties for the second half on such a cold night, she proved very brave but could do nothing to stop St Marys taking the chances that came their way.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Catherine Walsh, Aishat Onliogbe, Dianna Browne, Rose Goggin, Shannon Cremin, Courtney Histon, Susan Roche, Lauren Linehan, Ellen Harty, Aishing Harty, Aishling Murphy, Niamh Molloy,
Lucy Horgan, Kate Dineen.

League away to Lakewood on Sunday 18th March 2012
Lakewood 1 Midleton 1

This was the first game of 6 in the league play-offs.The girls topped their group and now play Lakewood,Wilton and St Marys in a round robin play off.
It was 4/5 weeks since the last game so the girls were a little rusty in the opening 15 minutes and but for a wonderful tip over save by Shauna in the opening minutes we could have been one down very early. As it happened a great individual goal from Lakewood opened the scoring after only 10minutes. Our girls stated to settle into the game after that and created a few chances and with just 10 minutes to go to half time good work from Susan,Rose and Shannon in midfield created the chance for Courtney to score and she took her goal very well indeed.

The girls grew in confidence after the restart but had to work very hard to stop Lakewood getting in on goal. Our defence of Catherine Diana and Aishat only allowed them half chances and our midfield broke very quickly and helped create many chances. One of these feel to Courtney who struck her shot too well from well out and saw her effort sail over the bar. After this the best move of the match involving Rose,Susan,Aishling Harty and Courtney ended with a chance for Shannon who side footed her shot just the wrong side of the post, but a wonderful move it was. The game ended in a draw and we look forward to Lakewoods visit to Midleton in the near future.Eabha Collins came on for her first appearance at the level and did very well indeed.Unfortunately because the game was so close not all the girls got a game on the day. Player of the Match was Rose who covered every blade of grass on the field over the coarse of the hour.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Aishat Onglilob, Catherine Walsh, Diana Browne, Shannon Cremin, Susan Roche(Capt), Rose Goggin, Courtney Histon, Aishling Harty, Ellen Harty, Niamh Molloy, Sarha Collins, Eabha Collins.

League at home to St Marys on Friday 10th February
Midleton 1 St Marys
1
There was great excitment for all the girl on Friday night as they played St Marys under lights, this was the first time the U12 Girls had this experience and it was a wonderful night for them all.
The match started going from end to end and this was to be the case for the whole game. There was nothing between the teams and the first half saw both defences on top giving very few chances to the forwards. Shauna our Captain on the night dealt with anything that St Marys managed to get past the strong defence of Catherine, Aishat and Dianna. Our midfield of Shannon, Courtney and Rose worked very hard to create chances but were restricted to chances from tight angles. Aishling Harty and Susan did their best to score but had very few chances. Aishling Murphy and Niamh came on to do their bit for team during the first half but the half ended scoreless.

The second half was more of the same with Ryanna now in goals and Ellen up front. The game continued from end to end and then after some good defending Courtney broke into midfield then passed to Shannon who played a perfect return pass in behind the defence for Courtney to run onto. Courtney then controlled and finished the ball to the net to the joy of all present. Must be one of the best goals scored this season at Knockgriffin and great to see so many parents there to see it. St Marys never gave up and Kate,Lucy and Sarah came on to do their bit. Then we created another good chance for Aishling Murphy who had her shot well saved bt the St Matys keeper. She then hit a long ball over our defence which bounced very high and Dianna blocked only for the in rushing St Marys forward to finish to the net with a powerful shot. The game ended 1-1 which left the girls unbeaten in the league group stages and topping the group.Happy Birthday to Lauren on the night and it wasd great to see her there to support her team mates. Good to see her recovering from her recent injury.

Team - Ryanna Clarkin Power,Shaunna Horgan,Aishat Onilogb,Catherine Walsh,Dianna Browne,Shannon Cremin,Courtney Histon,Rose Goggin,Susan Roche,Aishling Harty,Aishling Murphy,Ellen Harty,Lucy Horgan,Sarah Collins,Kate Dineen,Niamh Molloy.

Local Cup away to Lakewood on Saturday 21st January
Lakewood 3 Midleton 0

This was one of those scorelines that just doesn't reflect the game in any way. The game started with a Lakewood attack but for long periods after that it was all Midleton.
The game was played in a great spirit by both teams and both sets of girl's worked their socks off for the hour.
The majority of the chances fell our way in the first half with Courtney going close on a number of occasions, hitting the post three times. Lauren also went close to scoring and also hit the post. Lakewood had limited attacks in the first half but 5 minutes from half time they broke forward and a great shot to the roof of the net was just too high for Shauna to reach. As half time approached Lauren took a knock on her knee and had to leave the action. Aishling Murphy came on to do her bit for the team.

The second half started with the girls having to defend in numbers against the wind and break forward as often as they could. Chances were harder to come by in the second half and when chances were made Lakewoods goalkeeper managed to keep us out. Then in the middle of the second half a short kick out from Shauna was won by Lakewood and finished to the net. To the girls credit they continued to give their all and could with a bit of luck got a goal back, only to again find the Lakewood keeper in top form. Then with only minutes left a corner which was well struck was finished to the net by a solid first touch. Three-nil did no justice to the girls and I m sure they look forward to meeting Lakewood again in the league. Best Wishes to Lauren for a speedy recovery.

Team- Shauna Horgan,Rayanna Clarkin Power,Kate Dineen,Catherine Walsh,Aishat Onilogb,Rose Goggin,Courtney Histon,Lauren Linehan,Shannon Cremin,Aishling Harty,Lucy Horgan, Aishling Murphy,Ellen Harty,Niamh Molloy,Susan Roche.

League at home to Blarney on Saturday 14th January
Midleton 3 Blarney 1

This way the girls first game after the Christmas break but they managed to get back to winning ways after a scare when they trailed 1-0 with only 15 minutes to go.

We started with a solid defense of Ryanna in goals and Niamh,Catherine and Ellen across the back line. Shannon, Lauren and Aishat (Capt) in midfield and Aishling Murphy and Susan Roche making her first start in attack. The game started well with Shannon playing very well on the right wing and a few chances being created which we failed to take. The game was moving from end to end with Blarney certainly playing well above their position in the group. They broke through a few time only to find Niamh, Ellen and Catherine too difficut to get past and when they did Ryanna dealt with anything she needed to. After a few near misses the score remained 0-0 at half time.

We changed the team around at half time and Shauna came into goals and Aishling Harty into attack while Aishling Murphy moved into defense along side Diana. This seemed to unsettle the girls a little at first and Blarney made a quick break which ended with their centre forward finishing with a great shot. This now became a big test for our girls but one which they rose to with great credit. Lauren and Aishat worked very hard and started to create chances which we just failed to convert. Shannon kept causing problems down the right wing and on one occasion Catherine broke out of defense and looked like nobody could stop her,she took the ball all the way to their endline before having her cross blocked. Straight away she turned and sprinted back into her defensive role, this gave us all a lift and with fifteen minutes left good work on the right by Shannon gave Susan a chance which she finished with a powerful shot. The girls and all their supporters were delighted. Again Susan was on hand to finished another move to the net within 5 minutes, not bad for her first game. The game was settled with a few minutes to go when Aishling Harty got her reward for all her hard work on the day and scored. The defense of Catherine, Diana and Aishling Murphy gave nothing away. Aishling Harty did take a knock near the end and Kate Dineen came on to finish the game even though she was carrying an injury on the day. It was great to see this commitment to the team and also Rose Goggin who was injured recently there to shout her team on. Here's wishing her a speedy recovery and we look forward to her return. So in the end we won on a 3-1 score line and go into next weeks Cup Semi final away to Lakewood in good form after a very testing contest.

Team- Ryanna Clarkin Power, Shauna Horgan, Catherine Walsh, Niamh Murphy ,Diana Browne ,Ellen Harty, Shannon Cremin, Lauren Linehan, Aishat Onilogb (Capt), Aishling Murphy, Aishling Harty, Susan Roche,
Kate Dineen and Lucy Horgan.

League away to Richmond on Sunday 18th December
Richmond 0 Midleton 7

In what was a very cold morning the girls got straight into it when this match started. The pitch was heavy and the grass a bit on the long side but the girls took no notice of this and got on with playing their usual passing game.

We didn t have to wait long to take the lead when Courtney was there to get us off the mark after only 5 minutes. She was again the scorer of our second after only another 2 minutes. A good move involving Lauren and Courtney down the left ended with Ashling Murphy finishing the ball to the net to score what would be the first of 2 goals on the day for her, not alone did she score her first goal for the team but also her second. The girls continued to play the ball to each other and a good move ended with Rose Goggin going threw the middle of their defence and she made no mistake with an unstopable shot. We were all delighted to see her score her first goal for the team and we look forward to plenty more. Ellen, Niamh and Lucy came on to play defence and attack. The half time score was 4-0.

We changed the team around at half time and moved Shauna & Aishat to midfield and Rose into goals, with Niamh and Ellen coming into defence. Catherine continued to dominate at centre back and with the help of Diana they gave little away.We waited a while for the girls to get into things in the second half but good work in midfield by Aishat and Shauna saw chances made and after about 15 minutes Courtney completed her hat trick followed quickly by goals from Ashling Murphy and also by Ashling Harty scoring for the second match in a row on the day she Captained the team. All in all a great performance and they finish 2011 with a 100% record in both league and cup and we hope that 2012 will be as successful for them.Player of the Match was Ashling Murphy.

Team - Shauna Horgan, Aishat Onilgbo, Ashling Harty(Capt.), Rose Goggin, Lauren Linehan, Asling Murphy, Courtney Histon, Lucy Horgan, Niamh Molloy ,Ellen Harty, Catherine Walsh, Dianna Browne.

Local Cup at home to Buttervant on Saturday 3rd December
Midleton 2 Buttervant 1
This was a cracking cup tie from start to finish. We started slow and found ourselves under pressure for the first 10 minutes. We gradually got into the game and had a few chances before half time. Also Buttervant had chances to take the lead but good defending from Aishat,Catherine and Dianna, supported behind by Shauna in goals managed to keep them at bay. We failed to take any of the chances that came our way and it was all square at half time.

The second half saw us come more into the game and a great attack down the right wing ended in Ashling Harty hitting an unstoppable shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net off the foot of the post. The game continued from end to end with chances at both ends and finally Buttervant got the break they needed and Shauna had to pick the ball out of the net. Lauren,Shannon and Rose worked their socks off getting up and down the pitch and Ashling Murphy gave everything for the team. The game finished at 1-1 and into extra time we went.
Extra time was more of the same with both teams doing everything they could to get the all important goal.Kate Dinneen came on up front and did very well and Niamh Molloy came into the attack for the second half of extra time. In the final couple of minutes the girls pushed forward and after several attempts at goal the ball finally fell to Shannon who finished it to the net. Great celebretions followed and the game finished within minutes.Player of the Match was Ashling Harty.

Team: Shauna Horgan, Aishat Onilogb, Dianna Browne, Catherine Walsh, Rose Goggin, Shannon Cremin, Lauren Linehan, Ashling Murphy, Ashling Harty, Lucy Horgan, Kate Dinneen, Niamh Molloy.

Friendly away to Lakewood on Saturday 26th November
Lakewood 1 Midleton 1

The girls traveled to Ballincollig to play Lakewood who started their season with 3 straight wins just like our girls, so this was always going to be a big test for us.
The morning was dry but windy and we started the game playing against the win and a slight hill on the pitch.
So it turned out to be back s to the wall for most of the first half and in the end the home side took a deserved lead.

In the second half we played with more control and pressed forward on many occasions. Lauren Linehan getting into good positions on a few occasions only to see her shots well saved by the Lakewood keeper. All the girls from Shauna and Ryanna in goals to Catherine, Aishat, Kate and Dianna in defence to our midfielders Shannon, Rose(playing her first game), Aishling and Lauren worked really hard and up front Niamh, Ellen and Lucy never gave up. In the end Lauren got her reward for her efforts on goal with a well deserved equaliser.
It was a great work out for the girls after a 3 week layoff, we look forward now to playing Buttervant at home in the first round of the cup.

Team - Ryanna Clarkin Power, Shauna Horgan, Aishat Onilogb, Kate Desmond, Catherine Walsh, Dianna Browne, Lauren Linehan, Shannon Cremin, Rose Goggin, Aishling Harty, Ellen Harty, Niamh Molloy(Capt.,
Lucy Horgan.

League at home to Carrigaline on Saturday 5th November
Midleton 9 Carrigaline 0

The girls started their third league game at home to Carrigaline with a 100% record and managed to keep it in tact after a comprehenive win over a young Carrigaline side.
The game started very competitive and both sides could have taken the lead and but for very solid performances from Goalkeeper Rayanna Clarkin Power and her defenders Catherine Walsh,Aishat Olatunji and Kate Dineen it could all have been a different story. It took the girls a while to get going and will need to be better prepared for the start of their next game. It took a great move by Courtney Histon which was finished by Lauren Linehan to get us off the mark after 15 minutes. We had to wait till just before half time to get our next goal which was well finished by Dianna Browne for her first goal of the season.

The girls started at a much fasted pace in the second half and before they knew what hit them Carrigaline were a beaten side. Courtney added 2 goals to her seasons tally and Lauren got her second hat trick in a row and finished the game with 4 goals. Shannon Cremin helped herself to 2 goals in a Man of the Match performance and could have made it a hat trick before the end.Shauna Horgan played a holding role in midfield in the first half before taking over the goalkeeping role in the second half with another clean sheet. Rayanna took up the centre forward role in the second half and almost scored her first goal of the season. The other girl to play on the day was Lucy Horgan who was making her first appearance of the season and did very well ,almost scoring on a couple of occasions. She's the youngest member of the team and we look forward to her making many more appearances.

Team- Rayanna Clarkin Power, Kate Dineen, Catherine Walsh, Aishat Olatunji, Shauna Horgan,
Dianna Browne, Lauren Linehan, Shannon Cremin, Lucy Horgan, Courtney Histon.

Best Wishes to Courtney, Shannon, Catherine, Lauren and Shauna who have been selected to train with the Cork Development Squad. Starting from Monday 7th Nov.

League at home to Crosshaven
Midleton 9 Crosshaven 0

This match proved to be a great game for our girls to get back to winning ways after the experience in the national 7 a side blitz last week.
We started with great determination and with Catherine Walsh as Captain leading by example with some great work at the back assisted by Aishat and Dianna Browne. Some early attacks from Crosshaven were well dealt with by the back three and Shauna Horgan in goals.
Then we got into the game more ourselves and the arrival of Courtney Histon set of the goal rush.
Courtney set about things very quickly and had us in the lead within minutes of arrival. She went on to further extend our lead with some great help from Shannon Cremin and Ashling Murphy. Niamh Molloy was working very hard in her new position up front and helped Courntney to complete her hat trick.

Before the half time break Courtney had helped heself to a fourth goal and the match was over as a contest.
The second have started as the first finished and with a few changes of positions the girls set about extending their lead. Kate Dineen was having a fine game at the back now as Catherine moved into midfield. Lauren Linehan took on the roll of goal scorer in the second half and helped herself to a second half hat trick as Courtney went on to complete a second hat trick. Also Shannon Cremin was unlucky to add to her seasons tally on a couple of occasions. About half way into the second half Niamh took up the goalkeeping position and Shaune moved the the full back position and did very well in her first game of the season.
Team - Shauna Horgan, Dianna Browne, Aishat, Kate Dineen, Catherine Walsh, Shannon Cremin, Courtney Histon, Lauren Linehan, Niamh Molloy, Ashling Murphy.

Six girls from the club (Aishat, Charley, Shannon, Lauren, Courtney and Shauna) were guests of the FAI at Tuesday nights game between Rep. Of Ireland and Armenia. They took part in a six a side mixed game at half time and really enjoyed the night at the Aviva Stadium. This was a great honour for our club and the girls did us all proud on the night. Congratulations to them all.

League away to Ballinhassig on 24th September
Ballinhassig Midleton

The girls U12s traveled to Ballinhassig on Saturday to play their first league game of the season. This season the U12s will play 9 a-side from 18yd box to 18yd box, with roll on roll off subs. Unfortunately we had a few missing due to illness and had to play with just 8 players.
The game started well and the girls settled in well to this new format. We opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a well taken goal by Shannon Cremin after hard work by Courtney Histon set up the chance. Courney followed this up with a goal of her own struck from 20yards out into the roof of the net. Ballinhassig came back into the game with two good goals of their own to level the game dispite the good play by Captain Rayanna Clarkin Power in goals. Catherine Walsh, Aishat Onilogbo and Kate Dineen performed very well in defence, stoping many of the Ballinhassig attacks. Then we retook the lead after great work from Aisling Murphy and Lauren Linehan lead to Lauren being fouled in the penalty area and she stood up and sent it to the back of the net. Leading at half time and the girls deserved their break.

The second half started as fast as the first and mid way through Courtney extended our lead with a great finish. Meanwhile the fact that we had one player less was really making life difficult of us and the girls had to dig deep to keep going. Catherine was having a great game in the heart of our defence and came to our rescrue many times. Then Ballinhasssig scored a great goal with an unstopable shot from 20yds. The girls dug in for the last 10 minutes and almost scored a couple of times but also had to defend with all their hearts. We held on for a great win to start the season specially when you consider we played with only 8 players.
Player of the Match was Catherine Walsh.
Well done to all the girls and we look forward to our trip to Dublin next week for the U13 UMBRO All Ireland Blitz finals
