Under 14A 2014/15 Division 4

League Away V Carrigtwohill on Sunday 10th May 2015
Midleton 3
Carrigtwohill 0
What away to finish the season a 3-0 win at local rivals Carrigtwohill and an outstanding team performance to match the scoreline. The magpies controlled from start to finish in this game Conor fitzgerald and leo Hennesey tormented the Carrig fullbacks at every opportunity and with the support play from Robbie Kinane and Casagrande in midfield we were disappointed to go in at the break level. We sent the lads back out with the simple message to keep working and the goals would come and they did Fitzgerald hit a cracking strike from 20 yards to open the scoring and 2 more more goals followed from Hennesey and the hard working Aaron Leahy who's performance in centre midfield deserved a goal.
This was our best performance of the season Jamie Collins was a rock at the back, our link up play between fullbacks and midfield was excellent and Ethan Daly worked hard up front.
All in all a great team performance with a special nod to the midfield 3 of Kinane, Leahy and Casagrande who gave Carrig nothing today.
Well done all! Now I'm off for a well earned break.

League at Home V Kanturk on Sunday 26th April 2015
Midleton 1
Kanturk 0
A tough game against a very hard working Kanturk side. We wasted some great chances in the first 25 minutes and should have been 2 or 3 up before Kanturk got a grip of things and we were struggling to get a foot on the ball and were lucky to get in at halftime all square.
A couple of changes in the second half and positional switch saw Aaron Mulcahy move to midfield, the switch seemed to work as the only goal of the game came from Mulcahy. The ball broke to Ethan Daly who raced down the wing and cut the ball back to Mulcahy and his shot from the edge area found the corner of the net. We worked hard to get the second but it just wouldnt come for us.
All in all 3 points and a clean sheet we'll take that going into the last 2 games.

League Away V Carrigaline Utd on Thursday 23rd April 2015
Carrigaline Utd 1 Midleton 4

An impressive display from the lads tonight 4 different scorers with Aaron Mulcahys long range effort the pick of the 4, Robbie kinane finished off an excellent team goal at the second attempt after the united keeper pulled off an excellent save. We carved the Carrigaline defence apart with a swift counter attack involving Mulcahy, Fenton, Casagrande and finished off by Kinane. Scott Fenton opened the scoring with a simple tap in from close range and Casagrande got the fourth a fine individual goal picking the ball up on half way he drove at the United defence skipping between two defenders and placed the ball low to the keepers right.
A good team performance on the night Casagrande was the stand out player unselfishly setting up the First and third goals before getting the last.

League Away V Richmond on Sunday 12th April 2015
Richmond 1 Midleton 2

After some poor results it was nice to get back to winning ways. We controlled this game from start to finish but made hard work of getting the win, this seems to be the story of our season. Goals from Aaron Leahy and a late winner from James Guillespie gave us all 3 points. Stand out performances of the day were Aaron Leahy and an excellent game from Jamie Collins at the back and in the latter stages in midfield as we pushed for the win where he set up the winner.

League Away V Watergrasshill on Sunday 8th March 2015
Watergrasshill 2 Midleton 2

A disappointing result for the lads as we went to watergrasshill confident of getting 3 points and putting pressure on the teams above us. We came away with a draw after conceding a late equalizer 3 minutes into injury time from a corner which turned out to be the last play of the game. On a very tight pitch we struggled to get any flow to our football and the game was very scrappy from start to finish.
we scored 2 good goals 1 in each half from Aaron Leahy and a fine individual goal from Scott fenton in the second half. Midleton dominated possession in this game and should have ran out easy winners creating chance after chance especially first half.
Stand out players on the day Scott Fenton and Jamie Collins had a fine game at the back.

Local Cup at Knockgriffin V Carrigtwohill on Sunday 18th January 2015
Midleton 4
Carrigtwohill 2
The local cup put us up against local rivals Carrigtwohill and after a 40 minute delay due to extra time and penalties on the earlier game we kicked off this cracking cup tie. First blood went to Midleton, Zach Casagrande caught the Carrig defense cold as he raced through and finished low to the keepers left with only a minute gone. It could have been 1-1 as ex magpie Darragh Desmond saw his shot come off the post all this and only 5 minutes gone. The game settled down after that and we started to press forward using the pace of Aaron Leahy on the wing and Casagrande up front was a constant threat. scott Fenton got the second on the 15 minute mark after a great pass from Robbie Kinane. The magpies were controlling the game and the third goal was only a matter of time. This was the goal of the game after some neat midfield passing the ball came to Fenton and he played the perfect through ball for Casagrande, Zach knocked the ball past the on rushing keeper he followed up his shot and as the Carrig keeper was about to clear he nicked off his toe and rolled the ball over the line for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Carrig made changes at halftime and the fresh legs payed off as they forced 2 early corners and penalty was awarded after the second when Robbie Kinane was harshly judged to have fouled the Carrig player 3-1 game on. Carrigs tails were up and they really came at us the lads were struggling to get out of our own half. The second goal came after Jamie Collins fouled the Carrig forward 3-2 and still 20 minutes to play. Ethan daly, Stehen ford and Conor Fitzgerald replace Scott Fenton, Cian Ronan and Aaron Mul the fresh legs allowed us get back into the game and we pushed forward looking to extend our lead to 2 goals and kill the tie off. With time nearly up Robbie Kinane rattled the crossbar with an excellent free kick and he finished off a man of the match display with the 4th goal and wrap up the game with 5 minutes to go.
Robbie, zach Casagrande, Scott Fenton and Jamie Collins at the back despite the penalty all had great games.
On to the next round and the bragging rights in east cork are back in Midleton!!

Challenge Match at Mayfield V Mayfield on Saturday 11th January 2015
Mayfield 3 Midleton 3

A good run out for the lads with everyone getting time on the pitch. After some poor results and no goals scored in the league it was nice to get 3 goals and a great performance against a first division team.
Zach casagrande got 2 and should be full of confidence after 2 excellent finishes and Robbie Kinane, who is in great form at the moment, got the 3rd and his first for the season.
We led 1-3 at halftime playing with a very strong wind and Mayfield took full advantage of that wind in the second half winning the second half 2-0.
All in all an impressive performance and 3 goals scored and hopefully we'll take that into this weekends Local Cup game against our east cork rivals Carrigtwohill.

League at Kanturk V Kanturk on Saturday 6th December 2014
Kanturk 5 Midleton 0

A bad day that got worse is the only way to describe Saturday with 12 players down to travel only 9 turned up on the morning of the game. So we set out to Kanturk with 9 players hoping for the best we got nothing, Kanturk hit us for two early goals in the first quarter and that was it really with only 9 men we were going struggle to create chances and we went in at half time 3 down.
Second half was much the same with the lads on damage limitation as Kanturk came at us again and again. We conceded 2 more and the game finished 5-0.
Our lads left the field shattered after running them selves into the ground as Kanturk celebrated their first win of the season. A chance to stay second in the table with a game in hand going into the Xmas break was lost.
Stand out players on the day Scott Fenton and Alan Gray who never stopped running for the 70 minutes.

League at Knockgriffin V Carrigtwohill on Saturday 3rd December 2014
Midleton 0
Carrigtwohill 1
Derby day against Carrigtwohill today 3 points at stake and more importantly east cork bragging rights. A few changes for the magpies with Daragh Cashman a long term injury and two more Robbie Kinane and Scott Fenton pulling out due to illness we were still confident of getting all 3 points. A cagey opening 20 minutes with both defences coming out on top ex magpie Jack Horgan came close to breaking through on a few occasions but for offside to be called. We were struggling to create any clear cut chances although we had alot of possesion. 0-0 at halftime.
We spoke at halftime that one goal would decide this game and it did with Carrig taking the lead 10 minutes in we switched off and it was enough to allow the carrig player to stab home for 0-1. it woke our lads up and we should have equalised through Aaron Leahy when he found himself free at the edge of the 6 yard box the ball bobbled as he struck it and the ball came back off the crossbar and carrig cleared. Most of our attacking play was coming down the left side Leahy and Cian Ronan combining well to get crosses in the box but a lack of support from midfield allowed Carrig clear the danger. With the final whistle approaching there was one last chance a free kick 25 yards out centre of goal Aaron Mul tested the Carrig keeper he spilled the shot and from 2 yards out 3 of our lads managed to bundle the ball wide with the goal at there mercy. That was that game over and bragging rights to Carrig for now.
Sean Deveaney was outstanding never gave the Carrig forwards a sniff all game as was Cian Ronan and Aaron leahy. Ryan Cahill did well as Darragh Cashmans replacement.

League at Knockgriffin V Richmond on Sunday 23rd November 2014
Midleton 7 Richmond 1

A tough game to report on as the magpies dominated this game from start to finish with a 7 goal haul on an easy day for the lads. We were 1 up inside the first minute and led 2 nil 3 minutes later with goals from Aaron Leahy and Ethan Daly. The game settled down after that and with some excellent football we carved out a host of chances and the Richmond keeper pulling off some excellent saves before we went 3 up just before the break from Aaron Mulcahy.
Scott Fenton came on at halftime and got himself on the score sheet with a neat finish from close in. 3 more goals late on wrapped up the scoring Ethan daly with his second Tomas Dupas and a second from Aaron Mul.
Aaron Leahy again was a constant threat on the left, Robbie Kinane had great game in the centre, all in all an easy day for the lads, Second in the table with a game in hand we'll take that after 4 games.

League at Knockgriffin V Watergrasshill on Sunday 12th October 2014
Watergrasshill 1 Midleton 3

A 3-1 win but we made hard work of it on a perfect day for football, after a scrappy opening 10 minutes with the game stopping and starting the lads began to take control of the game without creating any clear cut chances. A positional switch midway in the half saw Del a Roza and Casagrande change places with the latter moving up front and scoring the opening goal from a defence splitting pass from Aaron Mul. We dominated the game from that point and wasted a number chances before the break.
We lost Robbie Kinane to injury at half time Ellis Rowlands came on for him and we continued where we left off creating chances but converting none and then the inevitable happened we conceded a soft equaliser and Watergrasshill grew in confidence. With the game at 1-1 and we unable to convert our chances on came Dupas for Casagrande and it proved the winning of the game. Dupas created 3 great chances and we scored 2 goals. The first he broke free down the right heading straight for goal his shot was only parried by the hill keeper and landed perfectly for Ethan Daly to slot home from close range. The game was wrapped up after a carbon copy run from Dupas ended with a corner. Mulcahy swung in the corner the ball dropped to Collins who on the turn powered home to the roof of the net 3-1 and game over.
A good game but should have been over at halftime. Shooting practice in training this week I think!!!!
Good performance again from Aaron Mulcahy in midfield, Aaron Leahy was a constant threat down the left and a solid back 4 performance.

National Cup at Knockgriffin V Douglas Hall on Sunday 28th September 2014
Douglas Hall 5 Midleton 0

Cup weekend for the lads and a chance to test ourselves against better opposition in Douglas Hall who play in Division 1. We set out to frustrate Douglas and hope to nick a goal on the break and it worked perfectly in the first half where we completely outplayed Douglas but just could not find the net. We went in at the break 0-0 after an excellent defensive display by the back 4 and Aaron Mulcahy in the holding roll just in front of them.
Douglas Hall made 3 changes at half time and they proved to be the winning of the game. Within 8 minutes of the second half we were 2 down with one of the subs getting both goals. We couldn\'t handle the movement of the front 2 and the pinpoint passing of the other sub in the center and Douglas ran out easy winners in the end as we tired.
A good test and we proved we can mix it with the bigger teams. Positives were the first half display which was excellent and the ever improving Aaron Leahy who gave the Douglas full back a torrid time and never gave up even at 5-0 down.

League at Douglas V Douglas Hall A on Sunday 21st September 2014
Douglas Hall A 2 Midleton 1

League at Knockgriffin V Passage Utd on Sunday 7th September 2014
Passage Utd 0 Midleton 3

First game of the new season on a perfect day for football at knockgriffin the lads put in a near perfect performance dominating from start to finish of this game. First real chance of the game went to Aaron Leahy after great play from the back ending with the Passage keeper saving well. A few minutes later Tomas Dupas had a shot saved after some neat midfield play and an excellent through ball from Aaron Mulcahy. Midleton were completely on top at this stage and Leahy had 2 more great chances before Dupas broke the deadlock in the final minute of the half, he broke free of the Passage defense and finished into the corner as the Passage keeper raced out to meet him. 1-0 halftime
Passage had the first chance of the second half when a deflected effort went narrowly wide. From then on it was all Midleton Aaron Mulcahy had 2 or 3 long range efforts go just wide before Zach Casagrande, on for Dupas, made it 2-0 when he ran on to a great ball from Kinane. Cian Crowley wrapped up the points with 10 minutes to go. The ball fell to him after a corner from the left side and he shifted it out of his feet and smashed it home to make it 3-0. Passage had a couple of free kicks in the second half but never really troubled Cashman in the Midleton goal. All in all a good performance especially the midfield 4 who played some great football and a clean sheet for the boys at the back. A good day out now we move on to the next game.
