Under 14 2012/13 Division 1 Match Reports

Local Cup away to Avondale A on Saturday 30thMarch 2013
Avondale A 1 Midleton 3

Midleton took on Avondale A in the local cup and sailed through to the next round with ease to take their place in the next round of the cup against Mayfield. There are four divisions between these two sides but for the first 25 min it didn't show and it was only in the last 5 mins of the first half that Midleton were able to break the dead lock when the ball came to the edge of the box and Ciaran Newlands got the ball and controlled it and while still in the air  struck the ball to fire it in to the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the away side but the Avondale lads could have felt a bit hard done by coming of at half time as they had a strong claim for a penalty denied and had at least another two great chances that never quite made the net.

In the 2nd half the gap between both team started to show as Midleton well and truly took control only 5mins into the 2nd half thy were 3-0 up with goals from Luke Smith and Adam Wilson and as the game went on Mike Kelly scored a fourth  and Luke Smith scored a 2nd to make it 5. As Midleton only had 1 sub they moved all there players around into different positions to try keep the score to minimum and as the game went on Avondale got a well deserved goal then in the last 5 mins Cahill Gunning got his name to the score sheet  to bring the tally to 6-1 and that is how it finished a good result and good display from the Midleton lads.

League at home to Fermoy on Sunday 24th March 2013
Midleton 0 Fermoy 0

There is never much separates these two teams in all the matches. They have played over the last 3 years and there was no change in this encounter. Midleton were by far the better team in the first half coming close a couple of times with some great passing all over the pitch but just couldn't get that final ball right and came off at halftime knowing that they never took their chances.

As they got the 2nd half under way Fermoy started off the stronger side and on a couple of occasion's Midleton rode their luck only for some fine keeping from Conor O'Farrell kept them in the game and as Fermoy pilled on the pressure. They were awarded a penalty but the Midleton keeper was in fine form and pulled off a great save to keep the score at 0-0. And that's the way it stayed till the ref blew the whistle for full time, Mathew Lamb, Ciaran Newlands and Eoin Mitchell worked hard all through the game but Conor O'Farrell gets man of the match for this one.

League at home to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 3rd March 2013
Midleton 2 Ringmahon Rangers 1

Midleton had to work hard for all three points in this scrappy and phyisical game against visitors Ringmahon Rangers and thats what they did it didn't come easy and as the first half came to a end it was still 0-0. When the 2nd half got under way Midleton came into the game a bit more, they brought on Tommy O'Connell and Adam Wilson and as the game went on they started to open up the Springfield defence more and 5 mins into the 2nd half Ciaran Newlands drives down the right side right into the box fires it across goal and the ball comes back out to the edge of the box where Mathew Lamb picks it up he takes a touch into space and fires it towards goal and straight into the back of the net and its 1-0 Midleton. But 10 mins later Mideton let Ringmahon Rangers back into the game with a ball over the top and ther striker runs onto it to even the scores 1-1.

Midleton pressed on for the three points but  time was running out and with only 2 mins left it didn't look like Midleton where going to get the break and then goalkeeper Conor O'Farrell picks the ball up inside his box he fires it right up the field the bounce beats the Ringmahon defence and yes the one and only Adam Wilson was there something he has done season after season his pace leave the defence standing and only the keeper to beat he puts it to the side of him and into the back of the net great goal with so much pressure with only a minute or so left and it gave Midleton the three points they badly need.

Good performance from Andrew Nestor who worked hard all through the game and also Sergio who worked hard at the back and looked confident on the ball, Tommy O'Connell help open up the play more when he came on as did Adam Wilson who made Ringmahon defence work in the 2nd half, Mathew Lamb work his socks off bringing others into play and Ciaran Newlands never stopped all through the game supporting the front two and also chasing back to support his back line great performance and three very important points for the home side.

League away to Bandon on Sunday 24th February 2013
Bandon 4 Midleton 3

Midleton got off to a good start with a goal only 4 mins into the game when the ball came across goal and Evan O'Meara was there to put it into the back of the net. For the next ten mins Midleton looked on top of this game and they came close to scoring a couple of times with Ciaran Newlands making some fine runs down the right side and sending across some great balls but to no avail and then out of know where Bandon score a equaliser. Bandons number 8 receives the ball just outside the penalty area and with plenty space around him he takes his shot right into the back of the net no centre back came out to close him down and he was the one player our midfield was told to keep tight to when we where defending the ball. After that it was error after error at the back and as the whistle went for Halftime Midleton Found themselves 3-1 down.

In the 2nd half Midleton had seemed to have given up all together as they gave away a fourth goal after only 8 mins gone, Midleton made four changes and 5 mins later they pull a goal back and get thier spirits up there was a bit of fight in them again and with 10 mins to go Ciaran Newlands sends in a great corner and Mathew Lamb is there to head it into the net and well taken goal at the same time, after that it really turned into some game it was all Midleton they must have had at least 10 chances in the last ten mins but they could just not get it into the back of the net. But the damage was done in the first have with really bad defending and just not with the back four our midfield to who didn't track back but more importantly never man marked the men thay where told to mark at times and those times caused goals. There where some good display's out there to day another good and well fought game from Ciaran Newlands who is having a terrific season and Mathew Lamb worked hard at bringing others into play also Mike Kelly had a good 2nd half but this game only gave Midleton some credibility when the subs came on Adam Wilson, Sergio, Tommy O'Connell and Andrew Nestor to give there team mates the belief to fight for this game and you just never know if they would have had that 10 mins earlier what might have happened.

Local Cup away to Youghal United on Saturday 9th February 2013
Youghal United 1 Midleton 5

Midleton made it through to the next round of the cup after defeating neighbours Youghal Utd in the 1st round of the competition. Youghal made Midleton work for their victory as Midleton where only 1-0 up going in at half time with a goal from Adam Wilson in this scrappy first half display.

Midleton made three changes at halftime and as the 2nd half got under way Midleton started to get a hold of the game and started moving the ball with a bit more confidence it was not long before they got there 2nd goal from Wilson and then Andrew Nestor picked up two goals and Mathew Lamb got the other goal and really it was all over for Youghal at this stage they did get a goal near the end but it was to late in the game to make a change. It wasn't one of Midleton's best performances but they still went through with ease with a better 2nd half display and hopefully they can keep this winning run going for this match Man of the match goes to Mike kelly.

League at home to Springfield Ramblers on Sunday 3rd February 2013
Midleton 5 Springfield Ramblers 1

This was a very important game for Midleton to take all three points and keep there hopes of promotion alive and boy did they do it in style right from the start they where on fire and only 3 mins into the game Mathew Lamb sent a great ball over the Sringfield defenders heads and Adam Wilson with his pace left the Springfield defenders standing and with only the keeper to beat he lobbed it over his head and high into the net great goal. It stayed that score till halftime but Midleton could have scored at least two more and Springfield didn't have much chances but anything that did get through a solid Midleton defence was picked up by the confident keeper Conor O'Farrell. Just before halftime Midleton's best chance came when they got a corner from the right side and Ciaran Newlands crossed it over and Lamb got his head to it but it just  narrowly went over the bar.

As the 2nd half got underway Midleton went on the attack again Luke Smith causing lots of problems for the Springfield defence and 5 mins into the game Midleton get a free kick out side at the edge of the box Ciaran Newlands eyes up the shot and strikes it right into the top left hand corner a cracker and the home side are 2-0 up. Midleton drove on from there and 5 mins later Midleton get a corner from the left side Newlands crosses it over it comes back out and he puts it back across Luke Smith picks it up and fires it into the back of the net and its 3-0 to the home side. At this stage Mideton make two changes bringing on Alan Horgan for Ryan Dunleavy who worked hard at right back and bringing on Tommy O'Connell for Mike kelly just for some fresh legs in the middle of the park and not long after those changes Midleton get a forth goal this time Mathew Lamb sends across a corner right into the six yard box and Luke Smith makes his move and gets his head to the ball and fires it into the back of the net great goal and great delivery 4-0 Midleton. Midleton make another change bringing on Andrew Nestor for Evan O'Meara and as Midleton get on with the game its not long before the 5th goal comes. Smith gets the ball at the edge of the box gives it across goal to Adam Wilson and he fires it into the back of the net and 5-0 it is to the home side. Midleton make their last two subs ten mins to go and as the game comes near to a finish they let go of there clean sheet and SpringField pull one back just before the end.

A great display from all the lads today Eoin Mitchell and Cormac Higgin had a solid game at the back as did Mike Kelly in the middle the two full backs Ryan Dunleavy and Cahill Gunning worked hard all through the game Adam Wilson had a outstanding first half as did Luke smith in the 2nd and Evan O'Meara did well up front as did all the subs that came on and Mathew lamb had another great game as did Ciaran Newlands as they kept taking some severe challenges from the opposition any one of these players could have got man of the match today but I'm giving it to Conor O'Farrell not just for the outstanding save he made in the 2nd half but for the confidence and the attitude in the way he protected his box today outstanding.

League at home to Strand United on Sunday 6th January 2013
Midleton 2 Strand United 0

Midleton started of the new year against visitors Strand Utd and right from kick off it was all Midleton. They where in command all over the pitch most of the first half the ball was in the Strand half with Midleton pilling on the pressure but they made hard work of it in the first half. They where playing a very tight passing game and couldn't open up the play and that made it hard for them and it was also down to the well organised back line from Strand but if any one was going to score it was going to be Midleton. Strand where not making any breaks at all and any balls that did manage to get down the Midleton half the Midleton defense never look bothered Cormac Higgins and Sean O'Leary Hayes where solid in there centre back positions as was Cahill gunning at left back and also Alan Horgan at the right, but 0-0 it stayed at halftime as Midleton could just not find that break through.

As the 2nd half got under way Midleton got right into this game they really meant business there where balls starting to get through to the strikers Adam Wilson and Evan O'Meara and chances started to happen with the midfield of Mathew Lamb and Mike Kelly spreading the balls out to the wide men Andrew Nestor on the Left and Ciaran Newlands on the right but as the game went on Midleton brought on some fresh legs Luke Smith and Tommy O'Connell and it wasn't long before the home side got there break the ball broke out to Gunning who crossed it over it fell to Newlands at the Edge of the box he knocked it onto Wilson who had his back to goal he turn with the ball inside the box took on a player passed him looked up saw the space and blasted it towards goal and right into the back of the net great goal and the magpies take the lead. Then ten minutes from time Mathew Lamb picks the ball up around the centre of Midfield he drives forward and 25 yards out he takes a shot and blast it right into the back of the net what a screamer and that is the way the game finished 2-0 to Midleton a great team performance from all even Conor O'Farrell who had really not much to do but when called on he did his job with lots of confidence but the players who really stood out to day where Cahill
Gunning at the back and Adam Wilson who worked his socks off up front and scored and man of the match which is split between Mathew Lamb and Ciaran Newlands the two never stopped from start to finish there work rate was outstanding.

League at home to Blarney United on Sunday 9th December 2012
Midleton 3 Blarney United 0

Midleton played there first match in three weeks and it gave them time to get there players back from injury and gave them all a rest which did them no harm as it proved in this game. Every time Midleton and Blarney meet there is usually not much between them but not this time from start to finish it was all Midleton they where outstanding today there movement on the ball was played with such confidence and 15 mins into the game they got there reward with a lovely move Mathew Lamb put a ball through the centre it fell to Adam Wilson and came close to the Keeper but Wilson got there first to get a touch and played it over to Evan O'Meara who had only to get a touch to knock it into the net for the home side to take a well deserved lead. At this stage the lads could have been 3-0 up they where all over Blarney the where winning all the ball in the centre midfield with a great fighting spirit from Tommy O'Connell and Lamb in the middle linking up well with Ciaran Newlands on the right who was sending some great balls into the box. Ten mins later Midleton are awarded a corner and Lamb sends in a lovely cross right into the six yard box and Sean O'Leary Hayes reads the cross from the edge of the box and makes his run he met it perfectly with his head and it was going no where but the back of the net 2-0 Midleton and that's the way it stayed for the first half with Blarney not putting the Midleton goalkeeper Conor O'Farrell under pressure once.

The 2nd half was no different it was all Midleton but they just kept getting more Confident as the game went on
Midleton made a change not long into the 2nd half bringing on Mike Kelly who went out to left wing and halfway through the 2nd half Midleton get there third goal the ball falls to Wilson who comes face to face with the keeper and he shows great confidence to knock it over the keepers head as he goes to ground and its 3-0 a great result and that's the way it stayed till the end. A great team performance today there where 5 or 6 outstanding performances Eoin Mitchell had a blinder at right back as did O'Leary Hayes at Centre back
Newlands who never stopped had another great game but the two centre midfielders stood out today. Just that little bit more Mathew Lamb who was involved in all three goals and man of the match Tommy O'Connell for his all round play his tracking back was outstanding and movement with the ball was 2nd to none and more importantly he listened to what was asked of him!!! great performance

League away to Avondale United on Sunday 18th November 2012
Avondale United 1 Midleton 7

Midleton traveled away to Avondale knowing 3 points was a must and the lads delivered quiteimpressively. Considering the conditions of the pitch the Midleton boys played some lovely football and when they move that ball quick they really do put the opposition under pressure if they could just do this a bit more consistent they would be looking down at every other team in the table in Div 1. Midleton where making chances right from the go and 5 mins into the game Evan O'Meara scores as a ball comes across goal from Adam Wilson it scrambles along the line and O'Meara gets his foot to it, but 10 mins later Midleton let Avondale back into the game from sloppy defending as they fail to clear the ball from a corner kick and Avondale get to level the game 1-1 . But Midleton kept plucking away at the Avondale defense Ciaran Newlands made a run down the right side and won Midleton a corner and as he made the run we could see he was still struggling with a injury that he picked up last week so we decided to take him off after the corner, Mike Kelly took the Corner and Newlands went to meet it and struck it on the volley it was a cracker right into the back of the net so he come off injured a happy man and was replaced by Ryan Dunleavy. As the game went on Midleton got More confident Kelly was running the show in the Midfield and just before halftime Evan O'Meara got a 2nd goal to make the score 3-1 at the break.

At halftime Midleton made a change Bringing on Mathew Lamb for Alex Marji Midleton started the 2nd half with the same confidence they finish the first half and it wasn't long before the fourth goal came and again it was the boy O'Meara who just happened to be captain for the day Adam Wilson drives forward and fires a shot towards goal with great power behind the ball the keeper blocks it and O'Meara was there for the rebound to complete his hatrick and then 5 mins later Evan O'Meara scores a fourth to make 5-1 he really was on fire today. At this stage Midleton make some changes bringing on Harry Wall for O'Meara and Sergio for Alan Horgan and it wasn't long before it was six this time top goal scorer Adam Wilson and then just before the end Harry Wall puts his name to the score sheet when Mathew Lamb played a ball through and Wall took it right into the box he had just the keeper to beat and he put it to the side of him and in to the net a great goal and Midleton finished 7-1 winners. Great team performance today Mike Kelly had a great first half and the the Keeper who was brought up from the under 13s for this match Ciaran Evans had a great match all through the game, the back four where solid apart for falling asleep for Avondale's only goal But there can be only one man of the match and that's Evan O'Meara who took his chances today and was in the right place at the right time.

National Cup at home to Fermoy on Sunday 11th November 2012
Midleton 1 Fermoy 1 (Still 1-1 after extra time. Fermoy won 11-10 on penalties).

This was another game where it was all Midleton who had all the play but still came away the losing team.
15 mins into the game and Midleton Should have been 4-0 up. Fermoy never got into Midleton's side of the pitch for at least the first 10 mins the magpies had chance after chance they really played some great football the first half, Mathew Lamb dictated the midfield along with Sean O'Leary Hayes pushing some lovely balls out the right to Ciaran Newlands who was causing trouble out wide for Fermoy and crossing some great balls into the box the passing right through the team was great but they just could not get that first goal. But their chance came when Midleton where awarded a penalty when Lamb was brought to the ground, Mathew Lamb stepped up to take it the keeper guessed what side it was going and made a fine save. As the game went on Fermoy made subs 20 mins into the game and they tightened things up at the back and hard to believe but the game stayed scoreless at halftime.

The 2nd half wasn't that much different again it was all Midleton but they just did not take there chances when they came along then ten mins into the 2nd half Fermoy get a free kick out side the box and score and its 1-0 to the away side. Midleton kept the pressure on but they just could not get that break through. 15 mins from the end Newlands was taken off injured and replaced with Mike kelly and then 5 mins later Midleton make two substitution to bring on some fresh legs Bringing on Tommy O'Connell and Andrew Nestor and O'Connell wasn't on a minute and broke into the box from the left side and was brought down and Midleton where awarded another penalty. Mike Kelly steps up to take it and puts it into the back of the net to make it 1-1 and that's the way it finished.

There was extra time but that didn't change the score either and it went to penalty's and Fermoy came out the winners. It was a harsh way for the lads to go out after playing some great football and having so much possession all through the match, they just really have to start taking there chances and tighten up at the back a little more and if they can do that they will start getting some results this season there where some good displays out there today Luke Smith fought hard all through the game and Cahill Gunning had a good game as did Alan Horgan who worked hard at the back and Sean O'Leary and Newlands work hard all through the match as did the the front runners O'MEARA and Wilson but man of the match for this goes to Mathew Lamb
who dictated the midfield so well today.

League away to Ringmahon Rangers on Sunday 4th November 2012
Ringmahon Rangers 4 Midleton 1

This was another game the Midleton Lads just did not perform on the day, yes you can say they where short a few players through injury but we have a big enough squad to cover that and play at this level and they just didn't do that today. 5 mins into the game things started to go wrong Ringmahon get a free kick outside the box (something we have been giving away to much this year)and fair play  to the big Ringmahon lad he took it well  straight into the top corner to give the home side the lead. Midleton had there chances to in the first 10 mins some great breaks coming down the right hand side and into the box but nothing came of it, and as the game went on before you know it 20 mins gone and Ringmahon are 3-0 up through some really bad defending But Midleton never gave up Mathew Lamb and Cormac Higgins battle away in the midfield With Ciaran Newlands out on the right working Hard to bring the strikers into play and if  they could just get a goal before halftime we really thought we could get back into this game and our chance came when Newlands made a break towards the box broke into the box and was pulled down and the ref had the easy decision to make penalty to Midleton and Newlands stepped up to take it but put it wide it was just going to be on of those days from there on.

The 2nd half got underway Midleton fought away to try and get a early goal and they had there chances another day they probably would have scored half them but not today. The more Midleton chased the game the more they started to leave gaps and Ringmahon took fill advantage of this and broke away down the field and it was 4-0. Luke Smith pulled 1 back for Midleton but it was to late at this stage there was no way back and to make matters worst keeper Conor O'Farrell got sent of 10 mins to go with what we call a provisional foul in the game and Ringmahon where awarded a penalty but he put it wide and the score stayed 4-1 not a great day for the Magpies but still there where some good performances out there today Luke smith worked hard in the 2nd half and Mathew Lamb worked his socks off in the Midfield area Ciaran Newlands had another massive Performance today its just a pity he didn't score the Penalty as he deserved something from the game and it just might have gave us that edge to bring us back into the game.

League at home to Bandon on Sunday 28th October 2012
Midleton 1 Bandon 2

Midleton started this game well, right from the start they got control of the game and where pressing at Bandon and putting them under pressure some great moves coming from the centre midfield playing in the forwards and the wide players right from the start the two strikers Evan O'Meara and Adam Wilson made the Bandon keeper work, we where 14 mins into the game when Midleton took the lead a great run down the right wing from Ciaran Newlands he got to the edge of the box crossed it across goal and O'Meara was there to knock it into the back of the net and it was 1-0 to the home side at this stage of the game it looked like Midleton would
press on from this and take all 3 points but they never and with some sloppy play in there game it was not long before Bandon made them pay a bad error from the defense saw Bandon go right through a gap in between the defense at the edge of the box and drive right through to blast the ball in from just out side the six yard box to make it 1-1 at halftime.

In the 2nd half the game was a bit more even Bandon started to win more of the ball in the centre of the park and Midleton's passing and final ball in some areas of the pitch got quite poor but they where still creating
chances and they still looked like scoring but then ten mins into the 2nd half and Bandon scored again from a player who was a threat all through the game Midleton tried in vain to pull back a goal bringing on Luke Smith up front who caused lots problems for the last 20 mins, the home side came close a few times Newlands was through on goals he took a shot with plenty power and the keeper made a good save probably should have carried it a bit further but still a good effort and Tommy O'Connell came close with another shot but to no avail and that's the way the score finish.

There where some good performances out there today Evan O'Meara played well as did his strike partner Adam Wilson who worked really hard off the ball as on it and Mathew Lamb in the middle and in goals Conor O'Farrell did no wrong looked very confident on the ball today and Eoin Mitchell worked hard at the back
but man of the match for the home side was Ciaran Newlands who ran and worked hard all through the game hopefully the lads can pick them selves up from this disappointing result and get back to the way they have been playing in the last three league matches.

National Cup at home to Skibereen on Sunday 21st October 2012
Midleton 3 Skibereen 2

Another tough game for Midleton they where up against a strong Skibereen side who really made Midleton work today. Most of the game was played in the midfield and both teams had there chances but it was Skibereen who got the first goal the ball was kicked out from the Midleton goals and it broke to the away side midfield player and he ran through and scored and gave the visitors the lead but Midleton kept plucking away and just before halftime Mathew Lamb picked the ball up in the midfield and put the ball over the top for striker Adam Wilson to Run onto and he made no mistake straight into the back of the net to make it 1-1 just before the ref blew for halftime.

The 2nd half got underway and as the game went on there wasn't much to separate the teams but it was Skibereen who took their chance first to take the lead for the 2nd time. As the game went on the game got more tense Midleton worked hard and really put the pressure on against Skibereen but time was running out and it looked like Skibereen where heading into the next round of the cup we where about 3 mins from the ref blowing the whistle and Luke Smith gets the ball at the edge of the box he takes a strike with the inside of his boot and it hits the inside of the post bounces back out across goal right to Adam Wilson who knocks it into the net and its 2-2 the lads have been given a lifeline. As the away side take kick off still shocked Midleton go in all steam ahead and about a minute later the ball comes Down the left side and Andrew Nestor crosses it
across goal and it falls to Evan O'Meara who slots it into the back of the net and its 3-2 Midleton what a finish to a game the lads never gave up and got their reward in the end, great team spirit again and looking forward to the next round.

League away to Springfield Ramblers on Sunday 14th October 2012
Springfield Ramblers 1 Midleton 3

Another great result for the magpies but they really had to work hard for this one. Straight from the start Springfield where on top they had the advantage playing down the slope and playing with the wind it took the lads at least 10 mins to get control of the game and get forward with some moves of there own but really the first half they where behind the ball most of the game but there was a great team spirit from the lads they defended well as a unit and it must be said Eoin Mitchell at centre back was outstanding today he cleaned up everything that came near him. The lads had some chances in the first half too with some lovely balls coming in from the wide players Ciaran Newlands and Mike Kelly and Mathew Lamb pushed forward from centre
midfield but really it was just a relief to hear the whistle go for halftime.

The 2nd half got underway and this time Midleton had the advantage and took the game to Springfield with Sean O'Leary Hayes battling hard breaking down play around the Middle and spreading it wide and it was from one of these moves that the first goal came Kelly got the ball down the left side and took it into the box putting it across the goal line just missing Andrew Nestor but Adam Wilson was there to slot it into the back of the net and 10 mins later Wilson got a 2nd to make it 2-0. Midleton made a few changes with 15 mins left to go Cormac Higgins who had played a solid game at centre back was taken of due to a earlier booking and we pushed O'Leary Hayes to the back line putting Tommy O'Connell into midfield, Springfield never gave up and
with 10 mins left Springfield where awarded a penalty and took it well this gave the home side the edge to fight on but Midleton held there own and with 5 mins to go Mathew Lamb got the 3rd to seal all 3 points. this was a great win for the lads they will Probably never have to work as hard as they had to today this season against a strong Springfield side. Again every player gave there all but today Eoin Mitchell was a fantastic man of the match.

League at home to Douglas Hall on Sunday 7th October 2012
Midleton 6 Douglas Hall 1

This was one of the best displays I've witnessed from the lads in two season they where brilliant to watch today
and it something we have been asking of them from the start of the season we know they can play like this and that's why its so frustrating to watch them sometimes.
Right from the start it was all Midleton. The first ten mins they could have had four goals they where putting so much pressure on Douglas Hall but when the first goal did come, Mike Kelly crossed the ball over and it just scrambled at the back post and with some luck went over the line and that's all we needed and they just fired them home from there. Mathew Lamb scored a screamer free kick from out side the box and followed up with another two to complete a hatrick and then Adam Wilson put his name to the score sheet. He linked up brilliantly today with Ciaran Newlands and just before the end Sean O'Leary Hayes got a goal to the delight of all his team mates again. This was a great team performance every player that played or came on gave a great performance. O'Leary Hayes, Newlands and Lamb where outstanding today as was Wilson and Eoin Mitchell who never put a foot wrong and Kelly had a strong 2nd half a great game to watch and lets hope they can keep it up.

League away to Strand United on Sunday 23rd Septmebr 2012
Strand United 2 Midleton 2

Midleton headed off to Strand this morning after a poor performance last week knowing they had to up there game and i am glad to say they did just that all through the first half it was all Midleton the commanded the midfield area and the back four where never really under pressure from the Strand attacks, the only problems Midleton had was giving away needless fouls around the box area and this was the only time the lads felt uneasy and it was from this Strand scored there first goal Midleton gave away a free kick right out at the left side of the line and and your man from Strand went for goal and caught Conor O'Farrell by surprise and off his line a good strike and goal. But Midleton got straight back into it and never stopped pressuring Strand with some great shots at goal from Tommy O'Connell and Ciaran Newlands outside the box but minutes later Midleton where rewarded with a goal a great move down the left side from Mike Kelly and Adam Wilson a quick one two and Kelly puts it in to the box and Andrew Nestor was there to make it 1-1. But this is where it gets so frustrating they then go and let Strand back into the game with another set piece the ball gets put into the box and the keeper fails to hold it and it breaks to one of the strand boys who slot it into the net right before half time.

The 2nd half was all Midleton we really put the pressure on and our reward came not long into the 2nd half when Mathew Lamb took a free kick out side the box he put power behind the shot and it came back of the keeper and Adam Wilson was there to get the rebound and took it well, Midleton where back in the game and they kept that pressure right to the end but just couldn't find the net but a big big improvement from last week and every player gave there all with some great performances especially Sean O'Leary Hayes who had
a great game his first game since he came back from injury.

League at home to Passage on Sunday 16th September 2012
Midleton 1 Passage 4

Another bad start to the season for the Midleton lads two games and two defeats, but this time there where no excuses for the lads they where just a sleep from the start same old story loads of ball but never really created
anything with the ball especially around the midfield area where we where hoping to open up the play and dictate things and its hard to believe but Passage didn't really put that much pressure on our back line but when they did we crumbled at the back, we gave away two easy goals in the first half first one the keeper blocked and the ball scrambled around the goal mouth and our lads failed to clear it the 2nd was a number of errors and a bit of laziness. but up front Midleton had balls going into the box but there was just know one making an effort to go and meet them.

In the 2nd half we started of a bit better but it wasn't long before they fell back into that same old trap Midleton kicked the ball out to the left side where the player didn't get control of the ball the ball played of him and straight to a Passage player and he went on the break and lob it high and over the keeper and now we where 3-0 down Midleton made some positional changes to try and claw something back putting Mike Kelly out to the left wing and Ciaran Newlands into the center with Mathew Lamb and Pushing Andrew Nestor up front Midleton Started to create things coming down the the left and had a bit more fight in the middle and it was from this that Kelly pulled one back. but not long later passage pulled away again scoring a 4th goal again from sloppy play and by this time we where just wanting to here the final whistle, a game the lads will not want to be
reminded about in the near future and the only way to forget about this one is get out there next week and show this one was just one of those off days.

League away to Blarney United on Sunday 9th September 2012
Blarney United 1 Midleton 0

Our first league match was always going to be a tough one as the last Four games against Blarney we won one and drew three and this game was no different both teams played a tight game with Midleton just edging it in the first half with a great move from Andrew Nestor and Captain Mike Kelly who put the ball through to Adam Wilson who tried to round the keeper but just narrowly missing and not long before halftime Ciaran Newlands came close as Midleton put the ball across the goal the ball came back out to the edge of the box Newlands tried to lob the ball over the keeper but it just slightly went over the bar.

In the 2nd half the of game both teams had a couple of chances with goalkeeper Kieran O'Rielly being called on a couple of times to make saves but the back four for Midleton really played well with Cahill Gunning putting in a good shift as did Mathew Lamb. But 15mins into the 2nd half the referee awards Blarney a free kick just out side the box which we felt was a great challenge from Lamb but there was no changing the referee's mind and from this Blarney scored and that is all that separated the teams. The lads fought hard all through the game they just have to work a little bit harder on that final ball and a bit of luck to go with it and they will do OK the season.
